Pistols and Demons not in i16.

There may be a clue to the demons in Desdemona's biography.
It says she can summon an "immensely strong Sothoth demon."
That is a very Lovecraftian sounding name, so maybe we will get some cool demons. It's not the name of any of the CoT demons anyway.
Personally, I like hordlings.

It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*
Yea i had noticed the mention of the lovecraft deamon name in her description and had taken it as a hint that we may see some Lovecraft inspired deamons.
Hopefully the've put that new model maker they were after to good work and created some non human models. some kind of hellhound is almost a must.

Demons that send, if not the summoner, then everyone around them raving mad... if their minds don't implode first.
Im expecting there to be one power in the set that acts as a spectral terror kind of demon. No demon set would be complete with something that induces fear into your enemies.

wait wait wait....demon summoning is already in game, the oni? if they bring out demon summoning, doesnt that make the oni redundant?
anyway, if demon summoning come out, can they get rid of oni and replace it with an actual 'ninja'?
[/ QUOTE ]
the oni isnt really a demon, its more like a warrior spirit....so ...lol

Ancestor Spirit is similar.
Now, that'd be a cool reskin for the Oni.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Bit worried about this 'Sothoth' demon reference being taken as a pointer to Lovecraftian 'demons'... No Sothoths in any mythos writings as far as I recall. Just Yog Sothoth - so the name may be a nod to more Lovecraftian entities but not actually existing ones from the Cthulhu mythos.
As much as a fan of Lovecraft as I am (well - possibly more a fan of Call of Cthulhu RPG and Campbell, Bloch and all tbh) I'd rather them do demons after Clive Barker... Lovecraftian beasties could just become laughable puppets when bound to a MMs will.
Of course, the Sothoth reference may mean that the demons are a metal band... But if summoning band members is a goer then I want it customisable so I can summon Carl McCoy.

If they are going towards the existing Cthulhu mythos then maybe the Hounds of Tindalos may suffice.
There used to be a player character (on Union CoH iirc) called the Hound of Tindalos
Just hope they don't venture to Y'golnac - although as long as they don't write the name down we may be ok.

going Lovecratian for DS would be ok if they take things carfully, i see no problem using some lesser entities, such as the hounds as JD mentioned, Mi-go, flying polyps, deep ones, soggoths, dimentioanl shamblers and other bindable creaturs would be fine, but having 3 Nyarlathotep's 2 yog-suthoth's and a hastur would just make the whole thing laughable!
Then it's time for them to get off the cross, use the wood to build a bridge, and get over it.

Who cares? It's not going to be some Cthulu-alike demon you summon, that drives everyone insane/dead in seconds. It's just going to be something along the lines of fire imps or the like. Might have some fear or confuse effects, but that's probably about IT.

Aye, the names are likely to be nods towards HPL but that's probably about it.
Nice that they are creating new entities for the henchies though rather than just regurgitating Behemoths and Succubi at us.
Lovecraftian = interesting looking, in this context. Not direct compies of creatures from the mythos, which would give them IP issues.
Imps, Behemoths an Succubi a simply too D&D-generic.
I really should do something about this signature.

Actually I believe there is talk of creative copyright (in some instances) being stretched to 150-200 years over the traditional seventy, and If a studio owns it (unless they are neglegent or disinterested) Its not something they accidentally forget to renew tbh.

I was thinking that. but since it's mostly reused & republished in Call of Cthulhu would it still be?
More to the point given how warily CoH is over copyright issues anyway it probably doesn't matter. The devs will hopefully create their own Cthulhu inspired monstrosities rather than just copying directly.

I don't think so - that'd mean that anyone could take a classic book, republish it, then say they had the copyright.

But Call of Cthulhu is more than "just a republished version of a classical book". It's a new medium (roleplaying game rather than a novel) and it expands on a lot of the ancient horrors Lovecraft uses (or just briefly mentions) in his stories. With lots of nifty pictures (which you obviously don't get with HPL).
To my mind it wouldn't be worth the risk of totally ripping off Cthulhu entities. Making totally new ones with hidden references to Cthulhu would probably appeal to the designers more than just ripping off someone elses work.
The makers of "Call of Cthulhu" have a copyright on a Lovecraft pen and paper RPG - so if you made a pen and paper game and called it "Call of Cthulhu", they could sue you - but Cthulhu himself isn't under copyright anymore -anyone can use him and the associated stuff - not just for private use, but to make money too.
There's nothing anyone can do to stop you maiking a t-shirt with a picture of Cthulhu on it, and selling it, for example.
