Quote:Sounds interesting.actually exciting.Better idea, one taken from another game (guess if you can).
A TF/event that enables an invasion on the opposing side. The game the idea is taken from had a PvP event every week in a PvP Zone (say in Recluse's Victory) that after a side one won the event they would "invade" the other side. While the invasion is going on, you would need to use something like GM scaling cause it'll be open PvP in every zone for the invasion's duration. The game I'm taking this from had 2 zones for the invasion event (like lvl 20-35 and 40 -50. much like how Bloody Bay has a cap of lv25 and RV SKs to 50)
this is an example for context: Every say Saturday night at 8pm, Heroes and Villians go to Recluse's Victory and duke it out for control of the zone. If the villains win in RV, they get to go to Paragon City and cause havoc. If the heroes win, then they go to the Isles and beat up Recluse.
Although, i did miss a point somewhere that they actually start in a zone and make they're way to a certain zone in an attempt to do something.
You'll probably be surprised how many people would actually enjoy defending their turf from the opposing side.
Defending your home is a perfect motivation to engage in PvP, even for people who normally dont PvP.
If there was also some sort of reward system to it,that would be great.I am thinking more along the lines of high XP for kills, and low(or no) debts for being killed (to not discourage the casual PvPer).
If u log in during the event, a information window would pop up to inform you about the status of the event ( villains won the event and are attacking Paragon/The heroes are arresting villains by the dozens on the Isles). Similar to the Zombie and Rikti invasions.
Sounds like fun to me. -
Quote:that is actually not such a bad idea.I still think something can be done about PvP (and´as many know, I no fan). The problem seems to be the fact that this game has been geared toward team play to the point where PvP is pointless without one. If you are going to have PvP in that environment, then it should be team-only. Open PvP zones should be team-only, dueling should have it's own mechanics were powers are geared toward one-on-one and should only happen in designated places. I have yet to see anyone go into a PvP zone with the intent of single-handedly taking on an 8-man (Purple IOed) team.

Quote:Thanks for the news! But the reason we are coming up with these ideas IS that noone really likes pre-i13 or post- i13 pvp. d´uh.In fact there is very MUCH data that this game's playerbase as a whole DOESN'T enjoy pre-i13 or post i13 pvp. Data that others above have alluded to, some of which comes directly from the devs.
It does NOT matter how many people are using pvp right now. I dont even pvp.
Well, > I < know why I dont visit the arenas and why you wont see me in the pvp areas anytime soon.
so...
Number of people not Pvping right now= Number of people not interested in a new working pvp system -this is a faulty deduction.
@FROSTICUS
You are right about that, my icy companion
Only that I am not asking the people on this thread to consent.
At the end of the day its not us who will decide, its the devs.
I believe no matter how many people kick and scream about server merger suggestions - one sweet day it is going to happen.
So I keep posting ideas regardless.... -
Hey Solicio & Co
About that "majority rule":
Have you personally spoken to each and every single CoX user?
You (you know who you are) are using people for your own argumentation, like they were basically YOU.
"We are the majority,We wont like anything like this ever, we will leave the game"
This is pretty much the epicentre of your whole argumentation.
Do you have sheets of surveys lying on your desk, backing up all these claims on what everybody wants and doesnt want?
I know that the majority of the userbase isnt in this game to play PvP.
But that doesnt mean all these people share your sentiments on everything that is being said here. Everyone has an individual stance on things.
Let them have their say (if they want), and speak for yourself and your personal experience.
For example, I myself know a bunch of people who dont play pvp in CoX right now, but would be interested in it, if things changed -one of these people being myself.
I´ve played this game for over 3 years now and I just think its time to work on things that are already ingame, but obviously dont work.
This is what these threads are really about.
If you are just here to say "No, there is nothing wrong with PvP.I am against ideas that involve changing anything about PvP" , then say it and thats it.
No point in trying to make people stop discussing ideas nevertheless.

What I often see on this board is the typical "senior employee/junior employee" syndrome.
The juniors are enthusiastic (and sometimes naive) about what it is they do, and constantly come up with ideas.
The seniors have seen many(or all) of these ideas fail before,(they may once have BEEN the junior once, and failed themselves) they think they know exactly where this is going, so they are pretty much against everything the juniors say.
In a perfect world, the seniors should bring in their experience to figure out ways how it COULD work.
Note I am not a junior to this particular game, but yes, I havent tried out any other MMORPG so the people who have , clearly have more experience there.
What just came to my mind...
forget dueling for a second.
Is there actually a plan for the level cap to be raised?
PvP could make great 50+ content.
It would be even easier, and nearly nothing would have to be changed.
Just make it so that in order to get to the new 50+ areas , you HAVE to go through a CoV 50+ area. and vice versa.
Is there NOONE who would find this exciting? -
@Samuel Tow:
Thats much better.
@Prof Backfire:
I understand your concern. But then again, PvP implies that there is always one loser.
If u let a single villain enter ,say,Founders Falls ,Croatoa or Peregrine Island for a mission, there will be no noob characters that just rolled a new hero waiting for him.
Also there should always be the "no pvp" button. as mentioned before.
@Luminara and Zekiran Immortal:
I am sure you thought this was a really good (even though low) argument there.
But I am Austrian. My mother language is german. And given that I speak english pretty damn well.
To tell you the truth I dont give a rat´s *** about in wich case u think it is appropriate to use "u" instead of "you".
What I value is everyone who can make a relevant argument based on WHAT I say, no matter if he/she shares my opinion or not. -
Thematic and Content:
More contrast to how CoH does things.
You dont escort - u abduct. You need to be able to tie the victim up, or put it in a bag(forcefield, wahtever), that u can carry or drag along on a leash. -
Quote:lol. thats ridiculous.*
If you mean "result in enough subscription cancellations to make the economic recession look like a happy Christmas memory by comparison" when you say "neat", I agree.
You guys cant wave the "subscription cancellations"-flag at EVERY idea.it makes u lose credibility.like massively
Also it would help if people who want to express they dont like an idea, would at least READ what the idea is about.
Guy talks about raid-like adventures into zones of the opposing side -> nay-sayer talks about STARTING in Atlas after outbreak!
I mean at least TRY. Is that asking too much? -
Quote:why would I "mess" with my own options?lolFirst off you said realism, and super hero/Villain in the same sentence.
...
Second world wide pvp would be an annoyance to all and cause many people to quit, even with your restrictions someone would mess with their options and be attacked by a stone tank on the way to Kalinda.
Finnaly why would i want to go to the red side with my troller? Maybe with destructible enviorments, but why would i want to go their and waste all that time when i can just go to a pvp zone?
If I forgot to switch off challenge mode, i would still have to accept the challenge.
well,if "some things could go wrong" the only argument u have.....
again, I personally would only like this idea implemented on the red side, where it makes sense. The story behind CoV suggests this idea in my opinion.on the rogues its everyone against everyone.not just against the (not really exsting) good guys. there are temporary truces, loyalties etc. , but nothing stable.how can I be a BAD guy and greet every other bad guy on the street.not even lowlife thugs do that, let alone overpowered egomaniac supervillains.
"realism" in this context means creating a plausible experience.and a feelable contrast between the two CoX games. -
lol,again.
i was talking about optional dueling for the villain side.
those who dont want would never have to.
people nowadays love objecting so much that they dont even take the time to find out what they are actually objecting against -
Quote:There should never, ever be a time when I have to decide to decline tells of any kind for an ingame play reason. Ignoring spammers is one thing, and ignoring rude players another - but having to change an option because an actual game mechanic opens me up to abuse? No thank you.
"Controlled" is for game engine only. You CANNOT control players. They WILL find a way to abuse it.
Plus: this game just does not warrant open pvp. There are NOT enough people who LIKE pvp in this game (not saying they don't enjoy it in any other setting, mind you, but for THIS game) to warrant such a dramatic change.
If you like open pvp there is a great zone for it. Go find it, see how few people are there, that's why we don't need it for the rest of the game. Like another poster said: we have arenas. Use them.
There is a lot of contradiction in what you say.
Many features that are in the game RIGHT NOW can be abused.
And there is a procedure that comes into effect when that happens.
The same would be true for any new feature.so much about that.
to "tell" another user trying to annoy him into joining a fight, even though/because that user is not in "duel" mode , WOULD be spamming. So its normal to react adequately.
I have experienced there are many users who like the general idea of PvP but dont like the arena or PvP areas, where villains and heroes play war.I personally find that it also doesnt relate with Superhero-culture. spiderman doesnt travel to a villain zone where its everyone against everyone, just for kicks.villains dont go to an official arena to fight, just because the uber-bad guy with the spiderlegs forbid to go at it on the streets. villains break rules.
As long as not even most pvp fans like the way pvp is implemented, there is something wrong, and that means for the developers, that they missing out on a way to get more paying users. -
Well i think CoX DOES have to guard against CO.If CO turns out to be as it is being announced.
Since CoX cant go back ,start from scratch and unwalk the paths chosen (game mechanics etc.) CO has an obvious advantage there.
CoX looks way better to me than what I´ve seen in CO so far(cell shading uuaaggghh), but IF they can provide that level of customization freedom(do what u wanna do, how u wanna do it, and WITH what u wanna do it) and IF CoX cannot bring it, I will definately switch to CO and give it a serious try. -
You are not reading careful enough.7
What would we call this idea "CONTROLLED dueling" for, if there werent to be mechanisms built in to control this feature individually.
you are getting too many challenges ?-> select option "you can only be requested while in status "bring it on" "
or select option "change unanswered invite maximum to x(insert number)"
you get tells?-> select option "disable tells from villains with the status "bring it on"."
guy makes the extra effort to switch off his "bring it on" status, just to annoy you-> globally block user!
I mean seriously.if u wanna say nay - at least do it after giving it a serious thought. -
1.Epic Scale encounters:
Well we have large bosses, but most of them look like normal minions with a different scale. No beautifully designed colossus.(speaking of colossus, they should take a look at the game "shadow of the colossus", THERE they´d get inspiration for boss-individuality)
2.Fun PvP:
Yes I been thinking about that one for years now.
seems this topic has a built in "/unsigned" ... noone cares enough.PvP should be optional ,SPONTANEUS and uncomplicated. It should be able to be done in between two PvE missions.no long travels to area XY....wahtever
3.real flight combat:
Wont happen until CoX is fully playable on a joypad, like ChampionsOnline will be.my guess.
4.about knockback...
Well there IS knockback, just it could need change.
you should be able to slam a minion 30 meters agains a wall, causing him to take extra damage when hitting it.heavy foes(robots) should break right THROUGH the wall
also knockback should not only send the foe flying in an arc(somewhat slowly at that), like he´s been hit by a soft breeze of air
they should be sent flying like being shot out of a slingshotthe force should be visible
-
lol.
I had a similar idea years ago and it got just as rejected.
I wanted controlled "open air" dueling for the villain side, cause I just didnt like how civilized things are over on the rogues - I dont even feel villainous there, wich makes the villain experience dull and boring.
I figured bad guys are bad cause they dont like to live by other people´s rules.
So it made sense to me that you could be provoked into dueling on the streets, even though u could switch off the dueling option(making u "intangible").someone might just bring it out of you
however it got rejected by 75% of the posters.I dont get why. -
You are righ, Revive does exist, DAMN!
Although Handclap isn´t really the kind of signature punch I had in mind(I mean if I can knock back people by clapping my hands I would be strong enough to impale a foe with my fist with every regular attack)- it does somewhat cover the knockback.
Nevertheless theres plenty more powers ,that are not really decisive in winning a battle, but enrich the experience.
For example:
Ice powered heroes get to create Icy shapes in every comic book, a multitude of tools(not just a sword).
They can 1)lift themselves up on a plateau of ice, wich could also be used to break a fall
2) create barriers to block hallways and such,(both 1+2 goes for earth controllers as well) and
3)of course the often mentioned ice slides
It of course would be cool if fire guys could turn these icy shapes into steam, causing every foe that passes through the area to suffer a accuracy debuff.
Believe me, that sort of thing happened like every 2nd episode of "spiderman and his amazing friends".This kind of interaction is a basic element there.
list goes on...
super strength people should be able to throw cars at people(like in marvel :rise of the imperfects, wich featured a copy-worthy fight engine),swing streetlamps etc.
I know that isnt possible technically (now),and has been asked for, a hundred times.
But that´s what makes a super strength char feel strong. he doesnt as much care for numbers, but EFFECTS.
y´all know what I mean. -
A chain of ideas has been going through my head, lately
Watching the latest episode of the TV series "heroes", and reading my latest wolverine comic, I realized that in COH , every single hero has to some degree, a regeneration superpower!
the Hospital teleporter!
In stories and movies, i found one of the coolest effects about a hero with rapid tissue regeneration is, that the villain can shoot him down, and leave the scene, believing he killed the hero - but moments later the hero would open his eyes , spit out a bullet and complain about the holes in his new shirt!
So I realized CoH kind of lost this effect, because of the necessity to keep all the heroes alive!
This made me think of ways to regain this effect, without adding any uberness, or anything, people with different powers would consider an "unfair advantage".
And there it was, my first Pool of Potential- Power!
How would it feel if u (being a regen hero)did not HAVE to go to the hospital to reenter the game?
I figured other heroes would like to have u in their team, cause if things went awry, and everyones down, and noone has a wakie, there would still be you!
Just like Wolverine did it time and time again in the comics.
So this is what this thread is about. The Pool of Potential would be a pool that consists of little "extras", that are different for any choice of power sets.
Another example: if ure super strong, how would it be to have an attack that doesnt do that much damage, but has an uber-knock back( you know, like in the hercules series),and a loooong recharge .of course you´ll only use it for fun, it wont be useful enough in a real tough battle, so noone will hate u for shooting their anchor out of space.
finding out what makes a power feel cool, or what keeps it from feeling the way it does in successfull super hero comics and movies, will make this a more fun game. Often there is no numbers crunching needed, its just things, that help diversifying the experience.
I invite u all to add ideas! -

wait wait wait....demon summoning is already in game, the oni? if they bring out demon summoning, doesnt that make the oni redundant?
anyway, if demon summoning come out, can they get rid of oni and replace it with an actual 'ninja'?

the oni isnt really a demon, its more like a warrior spirit....so ...lol -

THANK you.
Wich leads us to my often suggested Psychic Blade set -
yay!hell has officially frozen over!
I am happy.
This will keep a LOT of people (like ME) from going to CO. Cause COH looks better anyway(IMHO), and if they could implement customzable colors even though for a while it seemed they never would, they will manage to keep up with anything CO will come up with(custom power animations, hoverboards etc.)
a good example of how we all benefit from a little competition. -
[ QUOTE ]
I hope there will be a new npc to do the power customisation and not the tailor/facemaker. I'd like to do it with a character who won't visit Icon ever again so she won't loose the awesome bolero/wings combo ...
[/ QUOTE ]
yeah feel u . i had an ice hero with arms made solely out of gas.i lost it by going to the tailor -
I am still keeping my pen in the pocket on this one, cause I think, commanding a couple of thorns, arachnos, etc. would mean ure kinda down with the villain group and involved in their hierarchy. Some of these mobs just have trademark looks, that could never be seperated from the villain group.
I would like it if uu could have allegiances with villain groups and because of that get acces to their mobs, but that would mean the implementation of a whole new system
so I am hesitant to approve of this. -

n yeah, removing the bonuses makes these powers pointless much sooner than than they are already.
[/ QUOTE ]
I take them but they aren't much use. Once out of outbreak (or breakout for the dodgy ones!) they miss so often they've almost completely useless. More of a fill in attack while waiting for the rest to recharge... They look nice but apart from that, waste of a slot.
[/ QUOTE ]
strange, up until lvl 10 those attacks equal "me not dying ever", cause I get to have a functioning attack chain with (at the beginning) very strong attacks. The staffs hit more often than my other powers(at first).the axe and the sands are bit less functional, but mostly because of their long animation times.
Compared to 3 yrs ago, when I didnt have all these rewards the first 10 lvls are now a walk in the park.
Interesting that people´s experiences with these attacks vary so much!
