Pool of Potential
Both the 'Drag self to feet' and 'Punch off the screen' power ideas really appeal. They get my /Signed =] More like 'em would be nice. Even a pool that you picked from at, say, lvl 15, 35 and 50? Unslottable powers that were similar to 'Trademark' powers for that character?
Bit late to make the brain work...maybe for ranged sets have a '1 in a million' shot'. Rather large recharge, sniper style shot, maybe make it non interuptable to avoid making it a tad irritating. Useful for picking off that running boss or downing an AV.
If they could balance the timers, coupled with making them unslottable, think it'd be really nice.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

They already do, it's called Revive

Don't forget the little thingie inspirations with the fallen one with the arrow sticking up from his chest, sorta like in either Evil Dead or Friday 13th part 1 from 1989!
That one works well too
I thought that these ideas were already implemented.
Regens get Revive, Willpower Resurgence, Fiery Aura Rise of the Phoenix, Dark Armour Soul Transfer just to name a few. Their very theme should have them getting back up after the unknowing suspects them dead.
Then there is Superstrength which has Handclap. In the Knockback no damage department I think its off the charts. I'd hate to think how far it would send Carnie fully slotted.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
Going to hospital is intended to make people value their team-mates or staying alive though. While I see your point in the comic book sense, it isn't what the whole 'corpse run' idea is about. Adding a self regen to anyone who wants it would make soloing easier sure, but if you have no reason not to die won't care if you do. Its not like debt has any worth any more.
You are righ, Revive does exist, DAMN!
Although Handclap isn´t really the kind of signature punch I had in mind(I mean if I can knock back people by clapping my hands I would be strong enough to impale a foe with my fist with every regular attack)- it does somewhat cover the knockback.
Nevertheless theres plenty more powers ,that are not really decisive in winning a battle, but enrich the experience.
For example:
Ice powered heroes get to create Icy shapes in every comic book, a multitude of tools(not just a sword).
They can 1)lift themselves up on a plateau of ice, wich could also be used to break a fall
2) create barriers to block hallways and such,(both 1+2 goes for earth controllers as well) and
3)of course the often mentioned ice slides
It of course would be cool if fire guys could turn these icy shapes into steam, causing every foe that passes through the area to suffer a accuracy debuff.
Believe me, that sort of thing happened like every 2nd episode of "spiderman and his amazing friends".This kind of interaction is a basic element there.
list goes on...
super strength people should be able to throw cars at people(like in marvel :rise of the imperfects, wich featured a copy-worthy fight engine),swing streetlamps etc.
I know that isnt possible technically (now),and has been asked for, a hundred times.
But that´s what makes a super strength char feel strong. he doesnt as much care for numbers, but EFFECTS.
y´all know what I mean.
Hurl would be nicer if it worked more like propel and it picked up a random object rather than a boulder. But again its power customisation rather than a new power.
Ice already has a door blocking power, while it might not look great, it works fine and though it doesn't actually block the door directly it does stop most mobs running through it. (Ice Slick)
But most of what you're asking for either the engine wouldn't do, the devs won't do (due to IP issues) or won't work in the context of an MMO. Just think if a map had fifty ice track builders (Iceman) the map would soon look awful with all those ice tracks. Plus a lot of it is already there and just looks different.
I run a trio of Grav/Rad controllers, with three propels (at least) per mob the map is soon littered with junk. Just think if you added that in for every SS tanker as well... or maybe any of the similar powers. My three don't cause me lag (that I notice) but maybe ten or twenty would.
And for myself (and I suspect may others) while the game is based on Golden Age comics it isn't in itself a comic. For me making the game to much like a comic would be a major turnoff. I like being a super hero/ine, I have zero interest in looking or behaving like any of the comic book hero/ines that I have ever heard of
A chain of ideas has been going through my head, lately
Watching the latest episode of the TV series "heroes", and reading my latest wolverine comic, I realized that in COH , every single hero has to some degree, a regeneration superpower!
the Hospital teleporter!
In stories and movies, i found one of the coolest effects about a hero with rapid tissue regeneration is, that the villain can shoot him down, and leave the scene, believing he killed the hero - but moments later the hero would open his eyes , spit out a bullet and complain about the holes in his new shirt!
So I realized CoH kind of lost this effect, because of the necessity to keep all the heroes alive!
This made me think of ways to regain this effect, without adding any uberness, or anything, people with different powers would consider an "unfair advantage".
And there it was, my first Pool of Potential- Power!
How would it feel if u (being a regen hero)did not HAVE to go to the hospital to reenter the game?
I figured other heroes would like to have u in their team, cause if things went awry, and everyones down, and noone has a wakie, there would still be you!
Just like Wolverine did it time and time again in the comics.
So this is what this thread is about. The Pool of Potential would be a pool that consists of little "extras", that are different for any choice of power sets.
Another example: if ure super strong, how would it be to have an attack that doesnt do that much damage, but has an uber-knock back( you know, like in the hercules series),and a loooong recharge .of course you´ll only use it for fun, it wont be useful enough in a real tough battle, so noone will hate u for shooting their anchor out of space.
finding out what makes a power feel cool, or what keeps it from feeling the way it does in successfull super hero comics and movies, will make this a more fun game. Often there is no numbers crunching needed, its just things, that help diversifying the experience.
I invite u all to add ideas!
