Here's a little story of two boys going to buy sweets:

The first boy goes to a shop where the shopkeeper puts a few sweets on the scales, gradually adding to the pile to make up the required weight. As the pile of sweets gets larger, the boys eyes grow wider and his grin grows broader.

The second boy goes to a different shop where the shopkeeper dumps a huge pile of sweets on the scales. The boys eyes bulge out of his head but his delight is short lived. The shopkeeper gradually takes sweets off the pile to bring it down to where he wants it. The boys grin grows smaller as his bargain disappears in front of his eyes.

In each case the end result is the same but the boy in the second shop came away disappointed.
Which shop do our developers work in?

i think i know the answer to that 1 - erm, the second 1 ?

did the boy go back to the second one with his pocket money raise or did he stop buying sweets or did he shop at the first 1 in future?

I have the accolade so hopefully it will be not effect that the other badges wasnt to fussed about, but as the MA has minimal interest to me i was happy with just the accolade to use when ever im in a mission creating mood

See, I can understand the reasoning behind it, I can. I'm all for removing missions that are clogging up the MA, after writing two arcs myself and seeing them barely get played due to so many annoying farm rikti maps, I totally agree and understand.

But, some of these badges harm no one, particularly the Test mission badges. They aren't published missions, they sit on MY computer, harming no one. If I want to sit at home, repeatedly playng a specially made badge test mission, who does that harm?? Why remove the badges that some badge collectors will have spent the past few months working on that harm no one?

Again, I agree with the reasoning, but as usual the devs have left it far too late after release before doing anything.

Good idea, badly applied.....that's almost becoming the CoH motto recently

It's still great reward for little effort, albeit a less tangible reward than XP.

If people made missions specifically to shortcut to some badges, it's a farm in the dev's eyes.

[/ QUOTE ]im not disagreeing that it is classed as farming, im trying to say it two different types of farming. to me it like saying you put water in a cardboard box and set the box alight and see who can destory the box the frist

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, farming for badges and farming xp are two different things, but they both cause the same problem: MA stuffed with rubbish missions.

This measure deals with one type of farming, and the devs have given badgers an advance warning in an attempt to reduce wasted time.

I'm sure issue 15 will contain measures to deal with xp farming too, but the devs have decided not to give advanced warning about this.

I hope they extend this design phlosophy to the rest of the game, and reduce the requirements of a lot of the hunt badges (Illusionists!)

Although Bug Hunter would also have to go...

I really should do something about this signature.

Yup, I can think iof a few live badges that should be changed under this philosophy as well....top tier heal/damage/inf badges for instance.

I'm proud to say that as a badge collector myself, there are very few that I have "farmed" for. There's a fair few I've had to grind out, simply because I outlevelled them before I got them. Things like the Tsoo Mask badge I got by wandering a corner of Talos, waiting for night for them to spawn and trying to kill them. The only one's I've really farmed for are things like the Toxic Tarantula badge, got about 50% of that in teams having to repeat missions to get the badge, but that's purely because, as a hero, it was the ONLY way to get it!

If they want to get down on badges that people use the wrong methods for, I can think of a few things to change. How about making it so that you time out of the game even in a mission map to prevent people doing the resting trick to get the damage badges? Or removing the heal points from the gladiator missions for the heal badges?

Or, you know, just make the amounts we need a little more sensible??

Of course, if we had a badge forum like the US players do, we could discuss this sort of stuff elsewhere and not clog up the MA forum

News that convinces me further that canceling the account was the right decision. I have spent quite some time getting those badges and now they will be removed. Thanks a lot! Isn't there a reason you beta test the issues? I think this stinks even if I understand the reason for removing them but I certainly don't approve.

At least the dev's are taking action, sadly this means some players who have spent a lot of time earning badges will lose out. The MA needs sorting out and hopefully i15 will address farming further, remember most of the community have been calling for action on this. You have to wonder though if the development team are in touch with us at all sometimes, perhaps the changes are felt to be needed in terms of the whole "MA fix", but then again we wouldn't be here if they'd got it right first time.Again better communication/discussion with us the players may have perhaps been wise.

Sadly it's beginning to feel like the great community on these boards is slowly crumbling and as much as I was a little fed up with the game when MA (farms) was launched at least it seems the dev's will take action and for me all the posts about "I'm leaving" due to every dev action or decision are becoming tiresome.

I'm ok with this.

Ok, so I had earned almost every one that's being removed - but I'd like the MA to be successful for the right reasons and not the wrong ones

Can't you be at least a bit outraged about this

Good. Another two-hundred-plus tedious AE badge-farm missions gone, further narrowing down the pool of AE missions to those made with at least a modicum of effort and thought.

Couldn't care less about losing badges I had; if anything I'm glad to get shot of the need to beg other people to play my arcs so I can get whatever badge. And pretty much insta-accolade for the toons I've put a bit of badging effort in on.

In summary, then: Good.

It's a badge. No, it's not even that, it's a VIRTUAL badge, on a virtual game with virtual stuff.

If your outraged enough to leave, so be it.
If your staying, maybe see you in MA where we may now see some REAL Story missions up =]

*Falls off chair* Ouch! Unfortunate to see so many be lost, there are some good ones!(Push the Red Button anyone? )
I'll echo what others have said, lets hope this mentality gets applied to badges earned outside of the MA too, new and old *gives the Evil Eye to current grindy badges*

I'm sorta pro this change too, not just because of the farming it encouraged but because there was just too many MA badges. It was like "You have run an MA mission", "You have run 5 feet in an MA mission". "You have defeated 1/5/10/15/20.... enemies in the MA", "You have clicked a glowie". "You have clicked another glowie".

There was so many it just seemed ridiculous to me.

The problem you had was hunting Tsoo Masks rather than the badge-awarding BP Masks. Simple mistake to make.

Q: What about non-Mission Architect badges?
A: We have no current plans to revisit old badges at this time, and I don’t foresee us doing this really. All badges unrelated to the Mission Architect will remain unaffected by the changes outlined above.

I've got no problem with some of the more time-intensive badges, even the hard-to-get ones like the BP Masks etc., but anything that pretty specifically requires grinding — the 10 million damage taken one needed for the redside Born in Battle accolade, for example, which I'm not convinced any player has ever got in the "intended" way — should also be revisited, IMO.

(I'm more thinking of lowering the BiB requirements there, really. If people want that damage-taken badge enough to leave their puters on for however long getting hit by CoT archers, let 'em have the badge, says I.)

I do agree on the changes the devs made. Those badges encouraged farming, wich annoyed me in two ways: Making good story missions very hard to find, and incentivating badge farming teams to get'em all.

It's a pity it happened a little late but better late than never

The difference being that the normal game "hard to get" badges don't flood the starting zones with "Farming team LFM" and when you open the Newspaper / Police Radio you aren't flooded with a load of "Click a bazillion glowies, rescue 40 captives and stop the Alien Invasion" missions. It tends to be a far more out of the way and self-contained type of thing. The only badge hunt I think I've seen shouted out in Broadcast normally is the Illusionist one in PI and it's never more than once in a very blue moon.

With a full team, the Illusionist hunt takes, what, an hour? An hour and a half? Still within the bounds of sanity, IMO. And, ultimately, still plausible to get via standard play, as long as one is running numerous Carnies missions (though it might help to have a Carnies-heavy TF in place; a good deal of the other multi-defeat badges can be gotten via TFs, after all).
