i mean i won't be doin it as soon as i've got my first lvl 50 but it's useful
Welcome to the game and the forum, nottheboss.
Here's a few questions for you, then, to answer yours (which would better read "why do you all hate Powerlevelling so much?")
***
What level are you, currently?
Which story arcs have you enjoyed in the game so far?
What are you going to do with your first level 50 (bearing in mind that unlike WoW (to use a common example) CoH is all about the journey, not the destination, and there's very little to do with a 50 once you have one)?
Describe your character to us, in terms of his powers. Which are most useful for soloing? Teaming with a mad group of blasters? Teaming without a tank? Teaming without a 'troller? Teaming without a 'fender?
What role do you take in TFs?
Describe the best tactics for use against each of the Giant Monsters in the game, to defeat them with a team of no more than 6 characters.
What order (assuming you bother) are you going to get Accolades in?
***
The reason I ask all those questions is because if you're PLd up on your first toon, you've missed what many of us see as the point of the game. It's not to get to 50 as quickly as possible, but to experience the wide variety of content that exists on the way to 50.
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

There's an obvious answer to this...
...It's because they haven't played the short humorous storyarc that's an antidote to farming.
That's right kids - It's JD's Blatant Plug Time!!!

Of course, if you don't like farms you could always try shutting one down...
YES - IT'S A SHAMELESSS PLUG FOR 'Ee-Ai-Ee-Ai-Oh!' arc 3662
Consistently voted 'funniest arc between 3661 and 3663'!
Hear what the critics said:
"mildly amusing"
"Nearly funny"
"stop pestering me to play your <censored> arc - welcome to /ignore n00b"
With reviews like that you know you can't go wrong!

It's a short-3-mission arc with JD's sense of humour, but it also has some good points.
The real comments have included:
"Highly amusing and well thought out."
"Genuinely funny and really well observed. Especially as I was playing this in Atlas, surrounded by people asking for farms and PLs whenever I exited while I was playing this....."
"that actually made me laugh out loud. Well done, very funny."
"Now THAT was a laugh! XD"
There's other comments/reviews for this mission on City of Guides.

Hey - gimme points for trying...

I have nothing against farming, as long as they were doing their own thing in Peregrine Island but right now Atlas has become the place for people to farm.
I popped into the AE building in Atlas tonight and there were around 25 people in there. The broadcasts were fast and frequent with people asking to go on farm teams and people offering places on a farm team.
I just felt kind of sad that it had come to this. It really didn't feel like the game I've been playing for years at all.

Hero 50's - 25
Villain 50's - 1
Actually, still seeing plenty of farming in PI - 8-man randomly-named teams moving in unison, that sorta thing. Moving to AP has just made the issue a little more visible.
If people want to enjoy the game that way, fine, so long as it doesn't wreck the in-game economy.
Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
Welcome to the forums
My dislike of farming really depends on the type of farming going on. I would have no problem with farming a mission for badges, or vanguard merits.
But when there is INF farming going on, prices on the market goes up (Inflation), thus making it harder for non farmers to buy what they need from the market.
Villain side prices have been getting kind of ridicules lately, like some common salvage going for +100k.
Yes, I know I am a bit disillusioned. Anyway no need to debate farming vs. casual here or anywhere else, I just posted in case you generally cared about why some players dislikes farming.

yip sad times in Atlas now, used to be regulat cossie comps and general gather places for so many to have a bit of a chat and general feel good factor. now its a horrible place to frequent due to the overdose of farming spam, and all the pl requests. Lost its warming feel it used to have has poor old Atlas

I'm with most of these posts here. Although I don't like the idea of farming at all, I'll keep to myself quite happily if farmers keep farming to themselves.
But when I'm just passing through Atlas and get that much farm spam on broadcast, it just feels very unpleasant and I can't wait to get out of Atlas again. I start in Galaxy now. I remember when I liked Atlas.

Well I am sure the doctor can give you something for that.
My biggest problem with MA Farming is the fact that you level incredibly fast. Dinging 50 has no value at all anymore. Sure you could farm before, but it still was a lot of grinding. Now its just ridiculous the amount of xp you get from it. And like said, the inflation will skyrocket. Architect was the reason I reactivated my account, because of its potential...it turned out to be the reason I'll prolly stop playing CoH for good.

Don't farm and that 50 ding means as much as it used to.
Ok - the lessening of debt, patrol xp, a smoothed xp curve etc may mean it doesn't mean quite as much as it used to.. but it's certainly not devalued as you say if you play the game rather than take the PL-express to 50.

To be honest, people are just getting mad at farming period because 'Mission Architect' has exposed it's ability to level people very fast to pretty much every tom, dick and harry. I'm not going to bother starting a debate ( again ) but just remove the fecking building from 'Lowbies Land'.

Yes after all it's not like the lowbies go to PI or anything. Unless you want to block access based on level (really bad idea in my opinion) It doesn't matter were the building is.

Actually it really does. Moving the broadcast spam to another zone at least means new people don't see it, but vets will know that if they want to PL themselves out of the low levels they can go elsewhere.

^This.
A new player to the game doesn't need to be assaulted by a huge quantity of spam that appears to indicate that "everybody farms", because they'll rush to 50, and then wonder what there is to do.
Experienced players already know, and if they want to PL, I have no issue with that, but I believe that it is detrimental to the game for new players to be hit with such a poor perception.

To be honest, I could'nt care less about farming. Heck, after going through the not very well paced original content so many times I look for a weird blue roofed building when I'm going to the train irl, I even farm a bit myself.
What I'm getting increasingly annoyed about are all those people moaning and wailing, like its 1299, about farming. They are increasingly looking to me like that wacko "God hates fa*s" crowd in southern US.
None of you gets inconvenienced by other people farming, so why the heck should you care about it? Because people are asking for teams in Atlas? Whoop-de-doo. How HORRIBLE that must be for you guys. Instead of a mostly empty zone, there are actually PPL there! Oh noes!
Why can't you guys let people play this game like they want to, instead of trying to dictate how others should play.
Lastly. I'd like to hear clear and concise rationale for being against farming, because to be honest, I haven't heard any that makes sense yet. You've got the people who get annoyed by people asking for farming teams, but you've always had people looking for teams, what's so horrible about putting in the word "farming" in there? Then there's the bunch who complain that the AH will become imbalanced, but with the ability to purchase salvage with Tickets, it seems to me that farmers are spending their excess tickets on restocking a rather meagre AH. The prices for some of the salvage has been absolutely ridiculous. Aaand then there are those who say that there are less teams for them to get on because there are so many farming teams. So there are actually more people who are for farming than against? I wonder why! No. Not really. So, can you guys formulate a couple of reasonable arguments against farming, or are you just against it with the same basic rationale as the "environment-crisis deniers"?
Reasons excessive farming in the starting zones is bad :
1) Lowbies can't get a team the usual way (by shouting in Broadcast or leaving LFT flags up) in starting zones. Instead they are encouraged to join farms so they can learn the game by, erm, standing there while vets smash up level 54 Comms Officers. Their introduction to the game ends up being "Stand there and we'll do all the work". Do you honestly think that gives a good impression. I started a lowbie to try and play normal MA arcs to level up. Not a hope. This is the only issue I've seen where it is actually more difficult to start a new character than before.
2) New players gain 15 to 20 levels in an hour so you end up with a load of mid-20s n00bs who have no idea how to actually play, where to go (other than the MA), how to slot things etc. I've seen plenty of PLed newbies who simply didn't have a clue what their sets do.
3) New Players miss out on content like The Hollows (maybe not so bad actually ), Faultline, or the villain side arcs. Some of this stuff is excellent and is simply being missed.
4) Excessive Farming will be met by the Nerfbat of Damocles, impacting everyone who runs or creates MA missions whether its a Farm mission or not. History indicates the Nerfbat tends to be overzealous in its effectiveness (see Family Map, Merit Reward adjustments), presumably to completely discourage people from doing it. This means the whole point of i14 gets undermined and could end up gathering dust.
I'm not against all farming, been doing a bit myself and spending the tickets redside on Common Salvage Rolls and Bronze Reward rolls and sticking everything (well bar the mid 30s Recipies suitable for my Brute) into the Market for 5 inf. In terms of the markets MA Farming has been good for Recipes, but pretty dire for Salvage, even Common Salvage is silly expensive at the mo.
I am against all the farming spam in Atlas, it really creates a bad first impression of the game.
just a nice image
