Another Arc Review Thread

Now that I have three arcs published, I need something else to do, so here's the review thread I've been meaning to start up for the last week.

If you'd like to have your arc reviewed, please provide the following details. Please only submit one arc at a time, you can add another after I review your first.

Title:
ID:
Suggested Level Range:
Description:
Link to City of Guides entry:

(or anywhere else you have the arc posted. If I have an account at that place, I will add a review there too)

Please provide warning if your arc has AVs/EBs or any extreme challenges - I need to know what character to bring. I'll usually try to bring characters who can gain levels, but I have a few 50s I can bring for more challenging arcs. I'll usually solo but may choose to get a team sometimes.

I will criticise and probably spoil your arc in my review. If you don't like that, please don't ask for a review. If an arc is very bad, I will send you the review by PM unless you request for it be posted.

Some things I like:
+ Story focused arcs
+ Consistency with canon
+ Good spelling and grammar
+ Reasonable challenge level
+ Comedy arcs

Some things I dislike:
- glowie or boss hunts on enormous outdoor maps, ESPECIALLY ones that don't have minimaps
- defeat-alls used to excess. (especially on outdoor maps)
- extreme difficulty without suitable warnings

But I'm open to the idea that nearly any concept can work, provided it's executed well. I hope you can prove me right.

Nice to see another one up and running. Let's hope we get a bit of vareity from the people who requested arcs reviewed in Blitz's though.

I would ask for a review but I'm fairly sure you'll played all of mine :P

Unless you want to do a proper review of "'cards" (87733)

EDIT: Fine I give in, here a "proper request" for it
__________________________________________________ ____________

ARC ID: 87733

ARC NAME: A Few Cards Short of a Deck

DESCRIPTION:" As you look at the nine tarot cards you use to read fortunes you are reminded of the trial you undertook to gather them. ((Discover the origin of "Mystic Fortune", Solo friendly, levels 30-50, several EBs and an AV)) "

This arc was built to try and explain the reason why 90% of the population has magical tarot cards. It's a reasonably easy arc, only 3 missions long and you get plenty of support in the "harder" battles.

All opinions welcome.

(a bug has been reported that the mobs might not spawn correctly if you play a character under 40, not a clue why)

Title: Tidebringer
ID: 12590
Description: The Spectral Pirates of Fort Hades in Port Oakes have gotten stronger and more aggressive, and Arachnos needs a ghost buster; you've been contacted with a job offer. Level 40-50. Two EBs and an AV. Custom mobs can be deadly if you let them swarm you, and Lieuts can stun. Final AV can be... tough, or squishy, with varying results depending on AT/build/reputation. There are (optional) allies.

Good luck with the reviews you'll be doing. :>

Well, hell, I think its gonna be a good old while before the good Colonel unloads on my arc (er... ahem) and thus:-

Title: Cancelled in Three
ID: 34608
Morality: Neutral
Description: Can you stop Paragon's comics fans being turned into mindless, drooling fanboys?

Soloable: Should be OK throughout, squishies may want assistance for the two EBs. I can solo it in a few minutes on my tricked-out Widow, but I should probably test it more with lower-levels / other ATs.
Mob Level Range: 40-54
Elite Bosses/Arch-villains: One of each. Will both be EB or AV depending on your difficulty level and size of your team.
Missions: 3
City of Guides: http://www.cityofguides.com/ma/view-mission.php?id=107

Things I would be very interested in, feedback-wise:
•*Dialogue - is it funny? Is it TL;DR?
•*Custom mobs - are they a challenge? if so, are they too challenging? (They *shouldn't* be, for the purposes of this arc. I want people to have fun, there are plenty of Epic Challenges OMG elsewhere in the MA). Also, how are the designs? More variety needed?
•*Da Bosses - are they too hard? Too easy?

Look forward to reading your thoughts, and thanks for offering this service, Leese!

I don't know if you want to review Captain Jefferies, since I used a lot of your ideas from earlier feedback (Doc Delilah still isn't sufficently American though, I'm going to have to take a holiday in Texas as "research").

I could do with feedback on the story side of Total Domination (again, I'm not 100% on the characterisation of the contact, and I know you are good at that stuff), I've had some good feedback on the tactical side, But it's a real challenge, and not soloable without major temporary power use.

Name: The Secret of the Curse of Pirate Jefferies' Treasure Island
ID: 14030
Morality: heroic
Level range: 20-26
CoG

Name: Total Domination
ID: 22433
Morality: Villainous
level range: Pimped out 50
CoG

I really should do something about this signature.

By the way if any reviewers want a teamie along to see how a mish scales with more than one person I'm happy to volunteer during the evenings (generally after 9BST).

I'll start using the MA Channel to see if anyone would like an extra body in running review or proofing arcs (I'd obviously prefer published ones though for the shinies).

Ok, let's give it a try...
Title: Goldbricked!
ID: 83859
Suggested Level Range: 10-20
Description: Gold Brickers decided to expand their operations into Paragon City. Can you stop them? Version 2.12 (not yet updated that bit on CoG)
Link to City of Guides entry: http://www.cityofguides.com/ma/view-mission.php?id=71

Notes: Nothing extreme, except Gold Brickers themselves with their -res, and one ss/regen boss which might be a problem for some ATs.

I'm only accepting one arc request per person ATM, so my list won't get completely enormous. (it still will, but hey...) Please edit your post to pick one arc.

Do I dare again?

Not sure if I cajouled you into playing this one before Leese. Forget it if you have done so.

But I would like some input on Love Spurned 1934. It is a 'heroic' arc (well anybody willing to listen to that man must be heroic). It is supposed to be humorous and it should contain the worst cossies ever. Level range 35-40 and works best solo or in small teams or you will miss half the little jokes.

oh, what the heck, here's mine!

Title: Strife in Turmoil
ID: 65180
Range: 25-54
Description: Imoba Strife needs your help! His borther Jacen Strife has traveled back in time to alter their past so they never attain eternal youth. Now if Imoba steps outside a Magic Circle that Ouroborus has put him in, he'll turn into a 88 year old man and all his heroic deeds to date would never happen!

But why would Jacen throw away eternal youth? To find out, you must travel back to 1946, and get the answers from the man himself.

Additional Info: Contains one(1) Elite Boss.

Edit: Shortening Link

Which would you prefer? One of mine you have played before, in an earlier version, and the other might not appeal on grounds of extreme difficulty.

Done. Sorry.

Should have mentioned this earlier really but you can do a short url to a mission. by just putting the mission id after the .com part of the url. For example Imoba_Strife's link could have been shown as

http://www.cityofguides.com/60

edit: also you can use www.cityofguides.co.uk if you really want to as well

I've decided to try Total Domination, PRAF. I'd rather not review an arc I've already had any input at all on, which means Captain Jefferies is out. Soul-Journ's "Cards" arc won't be reviewed either. (I look forward to reviewing his next arc though)

I can say though, as a casual comment, that I did enjoy both of those arcs when I played them.

(yes, the arc IDs dont match because I cant seem to edit my mission description in CoG.. some error on page message).

It is solo-able but the boss on mission 1 may give you some bother.

It's 'kinda' good that another review thread has started, but these threads are a pain in the backside to monitor and search.

I've just gone straight to trying to play through the arcs on City of Guides, leaving comments/reviews there and sending PMs (here or ingame) to the authors about typos/grammar (which I try to discount from affecting ratings unless it's really atrocious or the arc would be 5-star without linguistic errors)!

I guess shouting up that persuading authors to register their arcs on CoG and leaving copies of reviews there would be out of order?

I don't know if you've played any of my arcs, and would like to offer the following:

arc name: Ee-Ai-Ee-Ai-Oh!
arc id: 3662
Suggested Level Range: 30+ (though I have done it solo on mid-20s scrappers and controllers)
author: @Judgement Dave

Someone's PL'ing and farming phat loot - but rather than whine about it you're determined to find out who and put a stop to it! WARNING: Contains non-canon mickey taking that some players may find immersion breaking. aka EIEIO.

My 4th-wall breaking look at how Paragon heroes (and Rogue Isles scoundrels) deal with PL/RMT farmers is hopefully funnier - I know of at least one player who claimed it really did make them laugh.. so hopefullly you'll enjoy it too!

I tried to pack humour into the dialogue, clues, critter descriptions, mission intros etc... so if you're after the humour be sure to check the text!

You can comment on this arc at City of Guides.

Shout up if you've played this already and I'll offer another one (probably one of my linked-but-standalone serious arcs).

For publicity purposes it is probably better to have reviews in as many different places as possible.

I know - but that's why I'd suggest persuading people asking for reviews to list them at CoG...

It'd be useful for reviews to be posted in both CoG and here, but at least CoG easily gathers the comments/reviews of several people into a single, easily searchable database.

And, of course, the more people who use CoG the more useful it will become to all users.

Any idea just how unwieldy a thread-only approach will become when we have tens or hundreds of reviewed arcs? It still has it's place, but IMO a searchable database of reviews/comments is far more user-friendly.

By the way. Emo is looking at adding a review entry to CoG, which will take the form of a more drawn out entry than just a comment. So it will be possible to enter them there as well.

Although I do agree with listing them in multiple places.

I'll add my solitary arc to your workload if I may...

Whatever Happened To The Cockroach Crusader?
Arc ID: 67280
Level Range: 20-54
There's something very wrong with Roachman, a vaguely bat-esque crimefighter. Foil the dastardly plots of his various foes to dig out the sordid truth behind his disappearance. Contains four Elite Bosses, no Arch Villains.

Well, I requested that people asking for arc reviews supply a link to CoG as well, because I believe that site should be used a lot more as well. But I think threads like these have their place too.
