AE buildings... Or rather their appearance.

Since AE apparently is the masters of holographic technology...
How about giving them some holographs on the outside changing their appearance so they will actually fit into the various zones they are placed in?

Or rather... Use it as explanation on how they can look different on the outside but still be the same on the inside.
Because it does break the immersion just a teeny tiny bit. Especially in Rogue Isles.

Yes..um No bugger it i don't know.

On one hand i can totally see where your coming from the MA buildings should fit in with the surrounding architecture however on the other hand its pretty common for a new building to not fit in with its surroundings especially in cities and considering these are "new" constructions it dose seem some what fitting that they should stick out a little.

Lets take RWZ AE building as an example.
It's just stupid.

Now if they give it the appearance of a warehouse... It would look a bit better.
Perhaps giving it a no flight zone above to keep in line with the whole holograph thing. Erect some warwall like screens which prevents you from flying into it.

why is it stupid tho? admitedly building a entertainment complex in a war zone dose seem a bit mad but then consider who's running the show the good Dr is hardly the poster child for sain now is he.

Add this to the fact that its probably quite a astute business move

war zone = soldiers lots of them
lots of soldiers = lots of potential clients all looking for a bit of R and R

not to mention the heroes that will be based there fighting the rikti you can just bet that crey is taking notes and measurements of the abilities of the MA users expect to see them in the next generation paragon protectors

Also changing the exterior of the building wouldn't work the inside of the building isn't a instance its actually within the building so they would need to change the lay out of the inside as well as the out side.

Here is what I wrote earlier about this subject concerning the AE buildings on the Rogue Islands:

[ QUOTE ]

When I saw the new MA building I had to check it out. I had to check out how it fit in the places I love to roam about. The building itself and especially the interior is shiny and nice but does it belong in the neighborhood where they placed it?

I started my quest on the Rogue Islands. Beginning at the humble beginnings. Mercy Island.

A tower of hope, a beacon of light in the gloom and doom place we hate to like that is Mercy Island. It just doesn't fit in there. To big, to shiny, to much steel and glass. Not enough bricks. Frankly it is an eyesore. This is mercy island. No money is to be made here. It is place of despair where only the strong can survive. And strong means Arachnos in there. No way would Doctor Aeon ever get permission to build this beacon of hope there. For more then simple financial reasons I might ad. It should be inside an arachnos fortress there or in one of those derelict building. This won't do.

From there I went to Port Oakes. Where the family rules and shipping is the game.

Once more it didn't fit the landscape. But less obvious so then in Mercy. I would have preferred another less modern building here. One could argue about the location it is set in. But this is a place where money talks and when you pay the family you can do whatever you want.

Then to Cap au Diablo, headquarters of the Doctor himself.

What can I say. Wrong wrong wrong. The building is to wide to fit on the plaza. Its walls touch the raised plaza itself! Totally ruining the central plaza. Then it is to short and not majestic enough to fit in with the skyscrapers in there. The genius that is Dr Aeon surely could have come up with something that fits and is not less grandiose then its surroundings. This one demands a makeover.

Can Sharkhead be any better?

Short answer. Yes. Modern structures and derelict industrial places go well together. It symbolizes the atmosphere of dehumanization nicely. Two remarks though. What are those skidmarks doing outside the building? And why is it so shiny with all the smoke and fog outside? If the building textures could be less shiny then I would be reasonably happy.

On to Nerva.

A tall tower in a warzone, that will never work! And it doesn't. The drones keep zapping every passer by with reckless abandon. This one needs some rethinking. Especially as this is a place where a lot of hunting is happening. Of course the architecture doesn't fit in well with the more traditional style found in the place.

The crown jewels of St, Martial.

Aah St martial, where poverty goes hand to hand with glittering neon and the lure of fun. The most logical place for a grandiose building. Then why is the MA building so plain looking compared to the casino's? A missed opportunity here. We expect glitter and glamor here. Interesting thouch those 'wards' around the building. Shame that they block the passageway of the pedestrians. Needs some work imo.

Grandville.

I shuddered to think about how they would implement this in Grandville. But they didn't. I can breathe more easily now.

Rikti War Zone.

A gaming thing in another warzone. How strange can you get it? I was sure I would hate it. But I don't. Yes I still think it would have been better to make a room inside the Vanguard base. But the implementation ain't half bad. Nice touch those heavies and turrets instead of the police drones. Problem of course is that a building can't keep looking prisitine when it is under constant attack. If you want to keep it in there then you need to do something with the building textures.

Conclusions so far.

It is a shame that the developers didn't take the time to give the implementation of the buildings more thought. Especially when they did so with Wentworth/black market, the vault, abandoned labs, vanguard. I fail to see why they couldn't go that extra length to make a more villainous versions of their building. Something to remedy soonest I think! Especially in the worst place ever. Cap au Diablo.

I have also checked out the places of the AE buildings in Paragon City. They quickly removed em from Croatoa luckily But fro most city zones I find them acceptable. Although Kings Row and Brickstown.....

I say that about a lot of new and "trendy" looking building that they put up in my city. But no one listens, life moves on and everyone becomes used to them.

Im wondering...
Is everyone on the forums (or in game) that glued to their screens?
Has anyone SEEN the frequent abominations that 'Modern Architecture' (shudder) throws up? By comparison, the MA building looks fine.
I like it, anyhow. Time for some variations in the architecture.

I have absolutely no problem with the AE buildings, in any way. I find the complaints are frequently hugely single mindedly overthought and overblown with the added bonus of making up additional complaints about them that in a fun twist, haven't been thought about in the slightest.

well was in RWZ last night and got to see the MA building up close and i don't see the problem with it the only reason it looks odd is because its not damaged but as a new building it wouldn't be now all wee need is for a few more buildings to appear in the same are it would represent the rebuilding of the RWZ.

Rebuilding projects in an active Warzone is NOT a good idea. And RWZ is a very active Warzone.

going into the future and trying to create a army of shevians isn't exactly a brilliant idea either but Aion dosent worry about these things.

More importantly doing it in the real world may not be a good idea but this is CoH land where there are people wandering the streets with more fire power than a small army

While I agree with this, here are my buts;

1. Number of buildings? 10
2. Placement? Random
3. Publish!

They are probably the same building model replicated in the zones, rather than 10 different individual models. Thus it becomes very difficult to make them fit in with their environments.

I'd compare them with WW/BM, but WW/Black Market seem to have had a bit more thought put into them.

You are right, not all AE buildings fit in with the context of their zone and at the very least could differ on building materials to suit local brickmakers and such.

Judging by the NPC dialogue around the one in Kings Row, I think the devs know how out of place they look...or atleast our good Lady War Witch does.

The police outside of the Kings Row AE building do say the following, no lie.

"Wow this building looks really out of place. You been inside yet?"

and either;

"Hmm no graffiti, wonder how long that'll last..."

or

"Hmm no graffiti, impressive."

So yeah, I think they know...

As many have stated, the new looking building in the warzone looks a tad ridiculous. They could at least move it inside the Vanguard compound or fairly closer.

Seeing as Arachnos (who back Dr. Aeon) and Crey Industries (who helped fund the whole MA enterprise) are the main investors behind Architect Entertainment, wouldn't it be better to have a neutral faction of Arachnos and Crey patrolling/guarding the building than Vanguard heavies? If you want Arachnos heavies, use Arachnos Heavy Blasters (the ones normally seen in Recluse's Victory), only with the faction "AeonCorp Security"

I like this idea that way they could have the sameAeonCorps security outside all the facilites.

Which reminds me of somthing why are archnos a enimy group in RV but longbow arent Archnos are there because Vanguard requested Lord recluse ofered there help surly they should be freindly faction atleast out in the open.

Noooo, the security is the ONLY thing that sets the buildings apart from each other. Some use police or arachnos drones with or without extra cops. In St Martial you see some interesting statues outside for ward purposes perhaps? Then in RWZ you got turrets, heavies to obliterate anything that comes close.

Change the buildings, keep the security.

As it's a potential security hazard I'm sure Lady Grey is quite happy to have the AE building just far enough away that it's not in her back yard, and near enough she can blow the place to kingdom come if need be (what, you thought those heavies were there for your protection?).
