if wishes were beluga whales...There'd be alot more whales....In this case, more happy players.
What are the chances of the designers telling the devs to implement this lot?

Given how long the suggestions thread is and has been, how many of them from players that the devs have actually implemented, and the fact the Devs are the Law ('PvP is WAI, we think new zones are better than revamps' etc. )...well, still no idea. Sometimes I wonder who would win, Nemesis or the Devs

wouldn't adding voices to just the NPC add thousands of hours of sound and probably double the size of the current install don't know about any one else but i don't fancy downloading several gigs of update specially as i play with the sound off.
There is that too.

I don't want TheMess to take this personally, but i really don't care about how he plays.
When a game is upgraded, it needs to be upgraded to compete regardless of the members playing it.
NCsoft game L2 did it (brought in 'dungeons' instances despite the fact one of the major selling points was that there were no instances and it was 1 huge world map)
Runescape upgraded it's gfx and there are probably tons of people who can't run the 'HD' version of it now. Now are you honestly trying to tell me the developer studio at NCsoft can't compete with JAGEX of all people?
To expand on Razor_Shultz' comments, I believe that if fully-voiced is the future of MMOs, then CoH has to go fully voiced to compete with them. Otherwise we're talking about a game which will be literally "last-gen".

O.O
So you can justify your posts! I knew it.
Yeah, AT LEAST a few lines of spoken text per NPC. For example, when you initiate a chat with them, they say 'What do you want!?' or something.
Or better yet, even speak their lines! :O In proper voices!

Sure. If they can do it.
If so, great.
If not, they plain old won't be able to do it.

You'd rather have to download a huge patch then just to have voiced dialogue? Voice acting takes up a lot of filesize and in addition is comparatively expensive for a feature that isn't really needed.
A voiced greeting, perhaps. But fully voiced dialogue would just be wasted.
A sound-fx and music revamp on the other hand is something I think should (and probably will) happen.
We're going to have to download stuff anyway, so it doesn't matter.
If you're going to dislike a suggestion, dislike it for it's content, not it's delivery.
Voiced NPC dialogue would be uber. Sound revamp would be uber, i'm in for it all!
I've downloaded big ol' voice files for an MMO before (EQ2) and I'd gladley do it again for CoX!
I'm in for voiced content as long as it's done in a decent fashion (not cheesy unless the NPC's character calls for cheesyness). The size of the download wouldn't bother me to be honest. The only people who'd have a problem in this age of broadband are those either still on dial-up or low broadband speeds (<1Mb) or those with ISP's who put download caps on their service.
Thanks Croesis and Imoba, NEVER sacrificequality for file space! Haha
As I recall it (this was some years ago) downloading the speah files was optional. So Paragon Studios could implement a similar option system so those who don't want to download them for whatever reason, can choose not to.

That I like.
Hell, I'm up for it, although so long as it is not made of cheese
But there is nothing worse than a game having things forced on it and the players.

Exactly. Which is why this game is awesome, you can choose to play however you want.

Just don't hit 50 in 3 hours
Talking of player freedom, I saw a loading screen tip the other day that actually said that the Invention System was optional, and the game hadn't been made harder to force you to use it, which I think is good, as new players looking at prices at WW could be put off a bit, and think they had to save Inf for the recipes.

Wrong i think you'll find that there are several thousand people happily playing WoW even with its last generation MMO style and sub standard graphics and engine

and what dose this prove adding dungeons is like CoH adding another zone

well for a start as you managed to point out JAGEX upgraded the GFX of runescape no part of that has anything to do with paragon studios. different developers, different company, different game, different engine.
And just to add i don't give a dam how you play
My point was that not every one plays the same. So the thing you seem to keep missing is that not every one plays the same and when some one disagrees with your point you declare there objection meaningless.
Well here's some news for you your suggestions have as much validity as any one else's here declaring voices as the way to go, as the thing that must be done to keep up with other MMOs is frankly stupid.
Like it or not CoH is not a next generation MMO (bloody stupid term but that's another rant) its just CoH its not starwars or conan or champions if you want the things they have go and play them.
Im all for taking inspiration from other sources but CoH should stay true to its self some random voicing isn't going to improve it if anything its going to make it worse.
whats the point of the contact saying hi and then you having to read the rest of the mission text? if they do voices they should be done correctly for the full game but that's not going to happen and if you believe it is then your deluding your self.
Just because you say something is going to make a game worse doesn't mean it is the case. And stop making a straw man argument out of what i said, i never tried to de-rail anyone's suggestions.
And whether CoH is a next or last gen MMO will determine it's survival compared to other MMOs that compete to steal it's fanbase, so i am sure the devs are interested in keeping up.
And how the hell do you know if voicing is going to improve the game or make it worse? Answer: You don't because it hasn't been tried or tested yet.
And also, to tidy up your last point: The purpose of contacts greeting players would be to add a measure of immersion.
And your point not everyone plays the same is irrelvant to how sound would impact their play. Hell, even make download of the sound files optional for those who don't play with sound, problem solved.
Before anyone comes back saying it won't add any immersion whatsoever, that's for everyone to decide themselves.
And when i say i don't mean someone to take something personally, i don't mean it. I always mean what i say, and if i say something, try to take it at face value. I try to rely on as few assumptions as possible; most of the time people misinterpret them and misunderstand what i say.
So try to give a post some thought before assuming it's out to attack you
I'd personally love to see the cut-scenes rendered with voice-overs. I'd be able to stand them a few more times that way.
Of course that would require someone to actually "play" statesman etc. They'd be forced to hire those "artists" every time new dialogue was required. Guess they don't like that idea...
..and bad voice-overs could kill ANY game so fast... soooo fast...
On the one hand, voice-overs can be really good and immersive. There's been the occasional game where I've felt the voice acting added a lot to it.
On the other, bad voice-overs are really painful. And the repetitive dialogue for random citizens becomes much harder to ignore if it's spoken than if it just pops up in the NPC dialogue box. And the continuous on-going nature of MMO development has to make it a lot more expensive and inconvenient than producing dialogue for a stand-alone game.
On balance, unless the voice-acting is extremely awesome, I'd probably rather the money and development time went elsewhere.

Random NPCs don't need dialogue, maybe just the Arachnos elites, EBs and contacts???

Maybe there should be another huge patch with all these uber revamps we want.
