While we're on it can we change the music in Talos? Specificly in New Corinth and New Sparta, it really gets annoying after a while
So far, the voice work in the trailers seems ok, so if that was the level it was at in game, I think it'd be fine.

That and Recluse as he is portrayed on the Grandeville propoganda screens. He sounds perfect there ^^
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Nice article from Massively that compliments the Original post.
The Importance of good Audio in an MMO.
Thanks for the link Mum, that was a good read and contains some very valid points.

And whether CoH is a next or last gen MMO will determine it's survival compared to other MMOs that compete to steal it's fanbase, so i am sure the devs are interested in keeping up.
[/ QUOTE ]
And the distinctly gen-before-last Anarchy Online did have voices ages ago, and one of the updates deliberately removed them.
Course, that may have been because only a few NPCs had voices, and they realised that adding full voices was overambitious. But that actually does bring up a pretty good point, if you want to talk about competition: competing does require not being frivolous with the game's budget just as much as it requires keeping up with the competition technologically.
NPC voices aside, The Soundtrack to the game does need updating. Anyone who has played the CO Beta knows what I am talking about.
Its about giving character to a location, a real distinct local flavour, and epic soaring themes that add to the ambiance of 'being a Hero and doing Heroic things'.
See the Massively.com article three posts up to see why that matters and just how much it can lift/compensate a game.

Aye. CoX has one list of musics for the whole game. And gets recycled.
Its not really something you could buy the Music CD/Download of, eh?
They should at least do a full score for, say, 'The Phalanx' and 'Arachnos'.
On a side note, I love games that use the intensity level for music. Best example I remember playing was Transformers (the non movie one) for PS2. Went as follows;
Basic/Ambient Music (No one around)
Threat level 1 (Enemies in sight/1-3 basic enemies)
Threat 2 (In combat, engaging mid level enemies)
Threat 3 (Large group of mid enemies, tank level enemies)
Threat 4 (Oh holy jebus thats a lot....)
And thats not even mentioning the Boss music! Seriously, in terms of epic, that game had it all. The music had all those music levels *for each zone*. Every one was different. Gave the place real atmosphere, and made it a joy to play.

I always feel that a great score adds something to a movie (even a poor one). The same is true of certain games....go on give Hans Zimmer a call...pretty please

A battle theme for each enemy group would be nice
[/ QUOTE ]
That's actually a verygood idea, GG.
I could well imagine some military marches while fighting the Council/5th Column (something like "Imperial March" from Star Wars) or something dark and mysterious for the Circle of Thorns.
All in all the whole soundtrack needs to sound somewhat more dramatic and less annoying.

I wouldn't like voice to NPC dialog. It may sound strange but part of the appeal this game got to me it's the comic book feel. I preffer to read the text like I do on my comics than listen it... I can put my own voices on it

I think it'd be nice if we had a more comicbook style of text, with bolded words.

just a bubble with text doesn't work, having the bubble interacting with the reason of text makes the difference.
a normal calm text bubble is like this

but getting in action looks like this(funny but action)

if they really wanna show the comic feeling, then where is it now?
o and yes, having things look better does make the comic book feeling better.
marvel has lately improved the way things are drawn, and it's looks sweet holy nice but still comic.
I see GG and Soruda that you two get my point
As for example in game, it's not perfect but I like very much the Romulus speech on the last part of the Imperious TF. As far as I can remember it's the only part on the game where you can see Bolded text "I'm NICTUS "
Hope we can see that in more dialog. Maybe a Text Re-Vamp?

the music sure does need a re-vamb, every MMO i ever played has a looped music trough the game while COX is the only quiet game without any background music.
also, the music of pocked D needs it's own slider, not everyone likes the music of pocket D.
[/ QUOTE ]
So you want a slider to mute the one bit of looped background music in the game, and to add looped background music to the rest of the game.

[/ QUOTE ]it's just that, normal background music is suppose to loop, it's making the environment alive.
tho, the current music is a bit off, if they made it a bit more fitting then looping it makes it all better.
the pocket D music is just badly done, you enter and instant music, whenever you want it or not.
what if you have your own music on, that annoying music is spoiling everything and destroying the enjoyment of own choice.
if a slider would be made, then there would be no problem in both cases.

So you say, but in fact (as you should figure out) looping music can be much more annoying because it doesn't go away, and you want a special slider to turn off looping music but leave non-looping music on.

On balance, unless the voice-acting is extremely awesome, I'd probably rather the money and development time went elsewhere.
