Future war zones?
Sounds like a Nemasis plot to me
It suggests nothing. It just says it's the first area to ever be considered a warzone. Talk about reading into stuff too much....

Restarts the "Make Dark Astoria a Warzone" campaign.
Banished and Tsoo and Thorns, oh my.
Given things like how long the half-built launch sites have been ingame with no follow-on development, how long the storm has been in coming, how long the new forums & the web-based Character Vault have been in limbo etc I wouldn't be holding my breath.

Was reading the report from the new recon officer in RWZ, and noticed he began by saying this:
"You have arrived in the Rikti War Zone, which is the first area to be considered a 'war zone'."
This suggests that there may eventually be a second.
[/ QUOTE ]
The first doesn't neccesarily say too much. Mrs Thatcher was the UK's first woman PM - not had another but that description still applies. Much better if the recon officer had said something like It's one of the war zones suggesting that others exist elsewhere in the world.
I'd hope that at some point we'd take the war zone to the rikti home... or the moon. I'd settle for them being on the moon along with the 5th, moon Igs, Nemesis, clangers and dinosaurs with frikkin' lasers.
I think we've been expecting the shards to open up for both sides for some time now - having the shards or a moon zone turn out as war zones wouldn't surprise me. But is the war against Rikti, Nem or a new storm...
BTW - your post reminded me that the hollows recon officer says something that surprised me... I'll have to revisit them to remember what it was though...

That's the one. Has that come up anywhere else at all??
The Igs have always been interesting partly for their brief appearance and seeming to be independent from everything else... And given that many (pre-policeband missions) heroes met them very early in their careers and they hit hard they left a lasting impression!
I've long fancied seeing more about the Igs, but this link from the recon officer is, iirc, the foirst time it's been mentioned, and whilst maybe pointing to a link doesn't actually tell us a whole lot. i.e. it strikes me as 'lazy backstory' unless it's going to be built on.

I see it as speculation that would happen in the game world.
A: "Where do they come from?"
B: "Who knows?"
C: "Well, they're walking rock... the DE have walking rock?"
A: "That makes sense!"
B: "It's not conclusive though!"

If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
I agree with ShadowGhost, it looks like in-universe speculation. It makes sense for them since they've already seem the DE do things like this.
For us though, we know that it should be incredibly unlikely, it would go against all the setup the Igneous have in the Hollows arcs. They have their own language, the DE speak English. The Igneous don't care about ecological preservation and restoration, otherwise they'd be all over the River, instead they are quite explicitly guardians of the Cavern of Transcendence, and are probably an entire magical species created towards this end.
The Igneous essentially control the Cavern, and whoever controls the Cavern can use it as a gateway to anywhere. If this were the case, the Devouring Earth would have been taking advantage of it.

Spoilers (as in your post, Sapphic!):
IIRC all of the DE are people mutated by the Unity Plague - thanks to the pioneering work of old doc Hamidon. I think the person you're referring to is Tanya (in the Terra Conspiracy arc) who was an associate of Hamidon before he went all gooey and green!

The story arc in question actually runs through two contacts at two level ranges villainside, the 15-20 with Peter Themari (where the hero in question is turned from being a hero to a villain through your machinations).
A devoured using firepowers of the same name later turns up in the Vernon von Grun story arc at level 45-50 suggesting after her turn to villainy that she got in over her head with the devouring earth and got transformed into a rather unique Greater Devoured.

A real showstopper!
I've always viewed the Igneous as something similar to marvels Man thing in that they guard the COH version of the Nexus of realities. And are in fact part of it something like antibodies generated when the cavern is threatened.
Meh ok - forgot about villainside DE... Think you're quite right and my memory is obviously poor today...

Not everthing is a Nemesis plot.
A Shadow Shard War Zone would be rather nice, especially if it was made co-op thus giving villains more TF's in the 40-50 range. Would be cool if we got to see the other sides of Rularuu such as Chularn the Slave Lord, Kuularth the Scavenger, Aloore the Watcher and Uuralur the Mirror. I think it would be awesome if that somehow it was possible that we could fight our reflected selves as EB's/AV's in a Uuralur TF/Arc.
Also of course they could finally let us fight the big guy....
(Apologies if this has all been mentioned before but I dont read the forums often, does that make me a troll?)

I think the Shadow Shards are big enough to support different types of zone in each part - Firebase Zulu could be made into a "normal" zone - like the way the efforts of Heroes in the Hollows has allowed for more support stuff to be set up, like the hospital and trainer and so on, Firebase Zulu could be upgraded in the same way - make it more like fortified research outpost than just a military base.
The other three zones could be left as hazard zones, but made into co-op zones - or two could be made into co-op zones, and the thrid into a PvP zone
I'd also like the soliders to be removed from there, as they don't really seem powerful enough to guard the area - it might be better to have a dedicated dimensional protection force, similar to Vangaurd, so that they'd help and recruit both Heroes and Villains to help fight the Rularuu and other forces of the Shadow Shards.

That image - isn't he inside the skiing area in the Pocket D? I don't recognise where he is from the Shadow Shard - where *is* that image from???

Yeah, I also thought it would make sense to have vanguard take over security in FBZ (then they could actually fight, rather than just pretend).
