Its all shiney

Ok, I have always liked the graphics in CoX, but since I came back due to the freebie reactivation weekend. It all just seems so polished and sparkling.

And coupled with the fact that we now have shields etc tis too much for this ickle womble to take in all at once.

Am loving the way the UI has had subtle changes (ie the badge section).

You know, when I left, I really thought thats it (life was definately at a major low point) but...there is now a good chance I might have to resub. For I can finally create the toons that I've always wanted to but couldn't due to the lack of certain cozzy bits.

Time for some mad roleplaying in and around atlas

Ah yes I noticed the shinyness myself. As I had to rebuild my whole system this week (Trojans and not knowing how to operate dangerous programs to deactivate them is not a good combination). I thought it was just my graphic cards configured in a different way. Guess I was wrong.

Shiny good.

Heh yeah, I'm in the same boat. I did notice the shinyness, but then I got a new PC a few weeks ago, and I attributed it to my graphics being at max setting for the first time since I'm playing CoX. So you mean it hasn't always been that way?

Yeah, seems to me like they've quietly tweaked the graphics and stuff. Noticed while running through Mercy Island on my new Pain Domination Corruptor that the area near Mongoose looks a lot busier than it used too, and not so flat and barren. Oh, and the patrolling Arachnos Transports no longer just pops in and out of existance at a certain distance, but rather fades into view. And they even bank as they turn now!

Well, as I mentioned in an earlier thread, I've just got myself a new computer and I really felt that I had to agree with this thread wholeheartedly.

My heart sank whenever I had to go and use WW/BM as I knew my old computer would just fall over. I couldn't play my MM and ran away from team invites (politely of course!)

But now I've logged on, turn the graphics up to max and thought "Wow, this is what I've been missing!" The Widow/Fortunata cossies are soooo shiney, and it's obvious that the City Hall entrance gets a good waxing daily, The Rogue Isles look all decrepit and Paragon really looks like a great city that's just keeping its head above the tide of scrotes.

The one thing that I can say I wasn't impressed with (and I apologise to GG) was Ghost Widow's hair - sorry! I love the Mu cloaks (front and back) I've always adored the Widows' butt cloaks, the hero villain cloaks work well, but for hair - no.

But basically, the up and down of this post was to say - Thanks devs, I've been a fan of CoX for ever such a long time now - and that was without the prettiness, now I can honestly say I think you've got me forever!

Everything has been shiny since Villains was released, you just needed to have the texture settings high enough to get it.

Agreed. It does look very nice with the graphics settings turned up. I gennerally turn them up when I'm soloing and turn them back down again when in large teams. There are so many fancy but performance sapping effects on those show off heroes and villians these days.

I've yet to have a quick look at patch notes to check, but I'm pretty sure I remember a patch updating a lot of the textures to higher resolution ones. I only started early 2006, so this would have been some time after the release of CoV - my hazy memory guesses at late 2006 or maybe early 2007.

Issue 7 updated CoH to CoV textures.

Darn - I spend ages scanning patch notes from ye olde times to come to the same info I could have got just by waiting for other posters to state.

Guess I can post the info/link from patch notes though (for I7 Destiny Manifest released 6/6/06).

The general graphics section told us this:
[ QUOTE ]

Default graphic settings have changed slightly. Will not affect existing settings or the advanced graphics settings options.
Changed the way the texture quality slider is interpreted:

Very High: all textures at full resolution.
High: texture dimensions capped at 256x256.
Medium: texture dimensions capped at 128x128, all textures reduced by one mip level.
Low: texture dimensions capped at 128x128, all textures reduced by two mip levels.
Texture quality is now treated the same in CoH and CoV.

[/ QUOTE ]
But the CoH specific graphics also said:
[ QUOTE ]

Updated and improved many textures and visual effects throughout the game.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure if that's merely referring to the then-new parity between CoH and CoV textures, or if a lot of extra shine and sparkle was added at the same time.

Maybe the CoH graphics improvement helped lead to the redesign of Hamidon, and the 50-person limitation being placed on the Hive. Maybe gfx sparkle killed the (non-US) Hamidon event...

And just in case you don't already do it, the /visscale 4 command also makes an incredible amount of difference to the way the game looks (if your system can handle it).

Oh must try what should it do?

Increases your view distance and brings objects closer to you in with a higher level of detail (for example, if I'm flying over Atlas Park, /visscale 4 will add in chimneys, air vents and trees at varying distances).

Having a quick look at Paragon Wiki, it seems to alter your draw distance and the amount of detail rendered. Although, there's a warning for setting it to 4, maybe MA has a very high spec machine

Edit: ... What MA said.

As said, it's not for every machine. I've got an 8800 Ultra in my rig, which copes pretty well it.

I concur with TBA (you don't mind if I call you that? It just rolls off the tongue.. erm keyboard).

My poor laptop (which will run Bioshock, Fallout 3 and Mass Effect) has awful trouble with CoHs Particle effects for some reason. Although it does mean on my WS I can actually see most of my cossie since the #particles are at the floor.

My computer SHOULD be able to handle that 400% but the game is just so damn buggy grr

Maybe you and others who posted saying about these technical details can help me? I made a post on technical support a few days ago, no resolution to the problem at all, it really is a pity because my (almost brand new) PC is wonderful on every other game I've tried it on :/
