why NCSOFT purchased COX from Cryptic?
[ QUOTE ]
This is almost certainly not a new player, but someone who has had thier previous account banned, and is using a free trial under a different name to come back and cause trouble.

WHERE'S MY COW?!
[/PratchettNerd]
OP - a lot of people think you're trolling, because, let's face it, you've done nothing but slam down on CoX since your first post.
As for CO being CoX2... do you have proof? From what War Witch said at Omega Sektor earlier this year, the CO engine was NOT being designed for CoX2, and many of us believe it was being designed for the Marvel MMO, then switched to CO when that deal fell through.
We have nothing against Cryptic - Jack Emmert is a whole other story.
We don't all love NC - most of us think they're a good company with a good history of listening to their customers (for the most part), but they're not perfect.
The vast majority of us, however, simply like this game, and enjoy playing it, and object to being told that it's dying when we don't think it is (if it is, proof, please!).
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

Plus if CO was actually CoH2 I might be tempted, its not though its a wholly new game, the graphics, gameplay and engine are all new and not intended to copy CoH.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, going by current screenies and those videos, CO is using a fair number of video and audio assets from CoX... Possibly they're placeholders for final stuff to be added later, but don't count on it.

Not enough children know this book. I play a game with some of my classes which involves them making animal noises (in the correct rhythm of the song) depending upon which animal they are holding... so far none of them have made a decent attempt at a hippopotamus!
Just shocking!
Wow, is is that time already. I was wondering when the next "CoX will be killed by the upcomming UberGamez™" thread was coming.
Maybe there should be a sticky entitled DOOOOM™ so people can get this sort of thing off their chests without GR having to come in and trawl through endless new threads worth of it...:P
I don't wanna save my soul now,
I just wanna lose control,
And even if it takes a lifetime, to learn:

What we should do is try to get our gripes off our chests all in one go, do the whole PL'ing is ruining me game, pvp ruining me game, farmers ruining me game, ED ruined me game, no teams ruining game, games dead ruining me game, knock ya self out, get them all out now so its done for the week.

Or just derail the thread with an obscure reference to a Terry Prachett book and stand back and watch the resulting nerd-valanche sweep it away.
I'd drop in some sort of evil, argument spawning post but after the last few I've done recently, I've been feeling a bit too cheerful to do such a thing.

[/ QUOTE ]
What makes you think we don't understand it? It's quite possible we have a far better understanding of what will happen than you, you know. Ever considered that you're wrong?
Sure, CO is what would originally have been CoX 2, which then became MUO, and then CO; but that does NOT mean it would be better. Jack Emert showed time and again with CoX that he isn't interested in what the players want to see, and that's going to continue in CO as well, count on it.
As for NCSoft just "keeping CoX alive". Look at the updates since Cyptic left the picture, look at all the QoL changes we've had since. Hell, if Jack were still in charge, we STILL wouldn't have the real numbers... NC are investing large amounts of money in the game, but these things take time before they become readily apparent. 2009 is going to be a BIG year for CoX, you'll see.
Right now, people are doom mongering because it's been a long gap between updates, pretty much the longest actually... Of course that's not a good thing, but things WILL pick up soon.

why ncsoft purchased city of heroes/villians from cryptic if they did know that cryptic is developing a new super hero mmorpg?i dont want to be rude but we all know when Champions Online[the new super hero mmorpg by cryptic]will releash so its the dead of COX ,then nc soft will close the servers of cox if the game was still by cryptic i guess they will make Champions online accounts to play COX on free ,but ncsoft purchased the game ,and we are all doomed ,ohh by the way i understand that DC Universe Online will releash before Champions Online ,that bummer that SOE will kill COX and not Cryptic ,the company that create COX .

To the OP:
Could I point out that most of the developers left cryptic to join NCNorCal when the IP was bought. Essentially it is not the same company and they don't have the experience.

Oh and as to the OP, I just can't be bothered any more. Myself and my SG mates will all still be here. Some may take a month here and there to play "the new big thing"tm but they soon come back when they find out it's junk.
Ok i'm going to regret this but i'm going to assume your not troll and treat your post like the uninformed thing that it is.

Wrong cryptic don't have the IP any more there for it cant be COH2 also champion online strangely anuff uses the champions RPG background so will bare no relation to CoH and its background

true but that go's for nothing its just a name almost every one who worked on CoH moved to NCNC

are you sure? i cant find any links for either "champions online" or "city of" current budget care to supply some so i can take a look
[ QUOTE ]
alot of improvemnt
[/ QUOTE ]
I cant really comment on this as while i feel I'm pretty familiar with CoH and what it has to offer me as a gamer i only have some very bad looking videos and a list of supposid features until I've played it i couldn't say. I can only assume your in the champions beta and so can directly compare the 2 games
[ QUOTE ]
why do you hate cryptic?
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally i don't hate cryptic hell if it wasn't for them there would be no CoH this doesn't mean I'm gonna instantly abandon CoH for something that's unproven
[ QUOTE ]
ncsoft just keeping it alive
[/ QUOTE ]
really? are you sure? NCsoft have the lions share of the Devs that made CoH the game it is and they have been expanding and improving on the game constantly its under NCsofts ownership that the Dev team has expanded (unlike cryptic where it was reduced to only 14-15 people) so if anything the bye out is good for CoH as its getting money injected into it
[ QUOTE ]
i don't hate ncsoft i mean i fill sorry for them about the money issues that they have
[/ QUOTE ]
Ncsoft aren't having any more money troubles than any other publisher or company for that matter. True they laid of a few people that will be missed but this was part of a much larger reorganisation of how NCsoft do business in the west.
[ QUOTE ]
but cox cant survive this 2 new games
[/ QUOTE ]
i believe one of the 3 super hero games will fail but i don't believe it will be CoH it already has a strong user base who enjoy the game while the 2 new games are both unproven add to the fact both appear to be aimed at the console market, Now i don't know about any one else but i certainly don't play a console game for months on end (definitely not 3-4 years). Hell your lucky if a console lasts 3-4 years there was already whispers of a new Xbox last year and considering that the 360 came out in 2005 i wouldn't be surprised to see a new xbox the last quarter of 2009 or first of 2010.
All in all yes ill probably try CO but i rather doubt it'll capture my interest like CoH has and ill definitely not be trying DC as i think it looks horrid
finally a question
Is your name Jack?
[ QUOTE ]
I think the economy is going to be more of a worry on all games. People may not give up on this game because they have worked hardest on it. In going to a new game we would lower the population of this one. Let's say we all did it and perhaps found the new game didn't measure up. We all then try to come back, only to find that this game is closed due to too low a population. I think that the best plan would be for NCNC to concentrate on the people they have, give us more of what we want sooner and that is exactly looking to be the way of things.
How things will turn out could come down to many things. I plan to play CO when it comes out and play this one. Spending money is fighting the depression and seeing as I know I would spend more money in 1 night down the pub than a whole months worth of gaming. Such is my plan.
If we can as players, be nice and treat each other with respect and by that apart from the obvious I also mean I try to value your concepts as well as you value mine and work together then there is less reason to leave. At the start of any new game you will get powergamers who want, expect and need efficiency hiring and firing, this game is nicer as its weathered and powergamers have moved on to other games (to be the best at ) so we should build on it and just have fun.
It's not good for a publisher to cut too low on games on offer and I think there is possibly interest in seeing as much as 6 more years of life in this one. Given that it's flexible and polished, and the Dev team have been expanding, ok NCSoft have been contracting and a game has been canned, the fight is on to keep things going.
[/ QUOTE ]
One of the most concise and thoughtful responses so far, an epitome of why i still play this game, I for one always try new things but return here regardless (even with my console begging me to play fable 2 on launch)
I still see it as this, ok ill play fable2 and maybe a few other new games, and I know ill enjoy them.. but just because i do so, does it mean my fealty to CoX is gone?..no
Now ok there are grumbles abound on dwindling population issues and other DooM related ramblings, however, I still manage to find good teams and once the novelty of new games wear off, the true lovers of this game return when they realise the options this game gives you..
No its not perfect, yes theres much shinier things out there.
However.....I defy you to find another game where a you can team a 9ft tall villain dressed in a pink teddy outfit and team him with a 2 ft tall ginger dwarf who can morph into a wall of rock and both go bouncing around an alien mothership with 30+ other loonies spanking aliens for some shiny shoulderpads and a hat...........when i put it like that ....No one will deny this game has its moments

i do not understand ,all of you play a cryptic game[cox]and you think that ther second game with twice more budget will fail?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah I do....
Look at CoH before NCSoft took over, several issues with virtually nothing new, a reduced development team. Continual Nerfs because what was happening in game didn't match what the boss guy wanted in 'his' vision. Same Boss guy still running the show at Cryptic.
Plus if CO was actually CoH2 I might be tempted, its not though its a wholly new game, the graphics, gameplay and engine are all new and not intended to copy CoH. For the same reason I'm not going to play WAR, AoC or any of the other MMOs that have been released since CoH came out I won't jump ship to CO...
As for DCO even if I gave a damn about the franchise which I don't I doubt I would play it. Its a console game intended for people who prefer consoles whether or not it sees release on the PC is immaterial. And as I was never a big one for the comic genre (expect where it matches my liking of figure hugging garments ) I don't see anything in either CO or DCO that makes me want to play.
