Merge Servers?

Is that what you call it?
Yeah this is a frequent suggestion.
In my opinion 2 english Eu servers was bit too optimistic.
I'd support merge tbh, but since it's becomming harder and harder to pull off and certain people seem to be against it.
I really like the game, but I'm sick and tired of jumping through bunch of hoops to get a team in Cov at end levels (one that isn't a farm team). While the game isn't exactly dying, the EU is not getting much better either.
So yeah, I share the same problem.
If you wish to play with bigger groups of people I'd suggest purchasing US account (theyre rather cheap nowdays).
That's what I did.
It's funny. I nearly took this to be a serious thread until:
[ QUOTE ]
Just a relevant reply to this, my brother who does not play, just walked past and said
'why do you still play this? no one even seems to be on it'
I just said because its a good game, but he was right, the game is dying.
[/ QUOTE ]
Love this. I don't play WoW - but I can tell you that it's dead in the water because I once walked past someone else who was playing.
[ QUOTE ]
Im not looking for a flame war, Im just stating facts.
Im not saying its impossible to get a team, im just saying one team for every 10 levels is kind of pathetic for a mmorpg.
[/ QUOTE ]
So.. 1 team every 10 levels. Since teams are 8 people at most and the level cap is 50 I'd guess that that means the maximum server population is 40...
Hmmmmmmm. I must bug the team search.
It often erroneously displays more than 200 characters as being unhidden. Odd bug. Hope that the devs can track it down quickly.
Oh but wait. News just in:
[ QUOTE ]
I ended up soloing my entire way up to 32 because of a lack of a team.
...
This was sent to the entire list that was teamed within my level range, and i only received one reply saying 'full' which is fair enough he took the time to reply but out of the 17 in my level range one reply? come on... not all afk.
[/ QUOTE ]
So within your level range (which according to your other posts I actually guess you mean more like +/- 3 levels rather than a 10 level range) there were 17 unhidden characters?? How did they manage to all be in the one team, since you've already asserted that there's only 1 team per 10 levels.
Is this another instance of the search screen being bugged? Were they virtual characters apppearing due to some obscure error in the devs code? I hope you bugged it.
If there are actually players about 'within your level range' did you actually ever consider forming a team as an alternative to forming a thread about why there are no teams?
Just wondered...

City of Heroes comics and artwork
OK, there's a little known fact that's not often quoted.
The Golden age of comics, I'd say, was in the mid to late 80's when comics were really on the up and up. Since then, partially due to some seriously wierd decisions by DC/Marvel and partially to the increasing power of consoles/PC's and to the increasing number of TV channels available comics slowly started almost dying out. Yes they're undergone a bit of a renaissance since due to Superhero movies but they're still not quite at the level they once were.
Thanks to this the majority of comic fans that look back with nostalgia are now 20 and 30 somethings with jobs to go to and families to spend time with. This inevitably leads to the servers being very empty during the day as said people have no choice but to work and look after children etc. They have no time to play CoH during the day. This leads to the peak server times being around 7pm towards 10-10:30pm.
I'd say the average age of a CoH player, both here and in the US would probably be somewhere around 23-28, maybe even into the 30's simply because they have the interest in superheroes from the comics they played. On Wow I'd bet the average age is much much lower, school kids and students will be more likely to play that than play CoH as they weren't 'seduced' by comics and had games to play into their imagination when they were young.
That is the main reason why the servers are very quiet during the day.
As for 2 English language servers one also has to remember that the majroty of non French and German speaking people will likely be taught English at school meaning the English language servers will become the server of choice for them. I know people from South Africa, Australia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and other Euro countries that play on the English servers. It's not just for English people!
A server merge will be EXTREMELY unlikely to happen as this would practically announce to the world that CoH was dying as a game and would, if anything positively announce to the world 'don't come and play our game, we won't be around much longer!'

....ooooh......wait......did I just get flipped??
Anyway, I am on a weeks holiday, I've been logging in during the day. Just today I got invited to a Frostfire mission team (was dead funny, 1 tank and 3 defenders, had a great time in it ) at 12.30ish on Union, was chatting to some friends on both servers, most of whom we're in teams and had at least 3 people ask to join the team I was in, which I passed on the name of the team leader!
So, yeah, clearly the game is dead.
This evening alone, when I was soloing some flashback missions, again, was chatting to several friends, all in teams, there was a full 8 man team in the SG I'm in on Union, my wife was in no less than 2 different teams on Defiant at differing levels with her SG over there and I saw plenty of people running around Cap Au Diable. All during the night I wqas getting people asking if I wanted to join a team as well (I didn't, was flashing back to little levels )
Again, the game is dead how exactly??
Of course the game is quieter at 12 midday, most people are at work or school, try looking for teams when, you know....people might actually be on more!!
Now, I'm off, apparently Stasis wants a pony/unicorn and I wanna see if there's on in port Oakes for her.

People are leaving the EU game because tanks dont always take taunt!
Should a tank have taunt anyway?
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.

I thought people where leaving the EU game because Blue Steel was a facist bullyboy with the combat skills of Chuck Norris?
I really should do something about this signature.
It just all the gamers running off the shiney new WAR. They'll be back once the gloss wears off. The same ebb and flow happens whenever a new MMO goes live.
TRUTH - I recently had a close friend join the game using my free trial account, who then went on to buy it - so new people are still joining.
TRUTH - Within the Outbreak zone, he received at least two blind invites for teaming from other people in that zone - so other people are starting / creating new alts.
TRUTH - Both he and I, that evening, recieved team invites, blind invites, super group invites - the game is still very much active, and has active teaming.
HOWEVER
I do, at times, feel that I should be seeing more people around, in game. Perhaps it is times? Perhaps it is the high number of zones that there now are? Perhaps it's because of the CoH/CoV split?
I come out pretty much on the fence on this one. Apart from seeing more people around Atlas Park, I can't see a server merge changing the game significantly - aside from having to turn down a million more blind invites.

Out of interest, I don't remember seeing this mentioned at all in here, is the OP in a SG at all, that made a MASSIVE difference to getting teams for me!
Being in a top class SG (Handprints ftw ) is easily the best way to get regular teams, not to mention making good friends

Of course Wrath of the Lich King comes out after that, so don't expect people back too soon, especially with Posi admitting i13 is having a few problems at the moment (probably because the team expanded a bit quickly).
[ QUOTE ]
Im not looking for a flame war, Im just stating facts.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, let's look at a couple of those facts.
[ QUOTE ]
Or even possibly why stop there? why not join european servers to the american version of the game and have the dev teams join together?
[/ QUOTE ]
There is only one development team, in the US. It just got doubled in size. There is a QA team over here, but no developers.
[ QUOTE ]
Also there seems to be a giant increase in the lack of ignorance when asking to join a team, a lot of the time people dont even bother to reply anymore.
[/ QUOTE ]
English isn't you first language, right? I think you mean 'rudeness.' In no way could 'ignorance' cover not replying to a tell requesting a place on a team.
Ignorance could, however, be applied to the senders of all the tells I get asking for "a place on my team" when my search comment says "soloing" or "not teaming" or similar, and I have myself flagged as not accepting team invites. Though, to be fair, such people are both ignorant and rude.
[ QUOTE ]
Playing city of heroes or city of villains on union at the minute seems tough to get a team at any level besides 40-50, i logged on today, 12 midday and one team going between 1-20 on villains, switch to heroes one team going 1-10 (3 members) nothing going level 10-20.
Logged on Villains again 6pm, one team going between 1-20 (6 members) two teams on heroes (one full one 3 members)
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I get annoyed when asked to team below level 10 unless it's with a friend. I primarily play scrappers who don't really need teams that much, but from 1-10 it's almost entirely unnecessary.
I also enormously dislike Pick-up Groups at all levels, mostly because of those ignorant people you mention. They can't play their toons, can't work with an Empath, don't know what communication is, and think aggroing the map and then screaming at someone to save them is a good idea.
People also seem to think that not being able to get a team all the time is somehow something to do with server population. This is, quite obviously, an opinion and not a fact.
Let's examine some slightly more populated games.
World of Warcraft: I play on Argent Dawn, it's a RP server, but it's slightly overpopulated if anything. I hear constant complaints about an inability to find teams, and if you don't want to be doing the right kinds of dungeons, it's simply impossible to get one by yelling, screaming, or using the LFG tool.
Lord of the Rings Online: Teaming happens on a purely ad-hoc basis, aside from end-game dungeon runs. Teams tend to form when a couple of people in an area have the brains to notice that they are competing for scarce resources (and in LotRO scarce is almost non-existant). They break up immediately after. If you're not in a raiding guild and kitted up to the best available you have exactly no chance of ever seeing the inside of any of the raid dungeons, let along completing them.
So, get your facts straight before coming here and deciding that we need to destroy our game servers so you can fail to find teams in a bigger population.
Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.

You can still play it if a few of you are friends and make an effort to play together, but thats the same for any game. Mostly its like WoW, but with Hobbits.
