On that subject, one thing that can go in there are the changes made to PVE to "balance PVP". Why? It's possible to have a different set of effects of a power when it's against a player or "critter", so why not just change that attribute of it? Don't stuff up PVE just to please the PVP minority tyvm.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just a quick and utterly honest question from someone whose search-fu is weak: When was the last time there was a 'nerf' explicitly and officially stated as being for PvP reasons? And, given whatever the answer to that question is, why does everyone think that nerfs are caused by PvP balance issues?

[/ QUOTE ]
Not sure how "officially" this was ever admitted, but to my mind the most recent one (and it is fairly recent) would be the "using any phase shift locks out all other phase shift power for 30 secs" one. Why? Because I can't see chaining phase shifts having been an issue at all in PvE.

[/ QUOTE ]

Technically, the phase shift powers were nerfed for PvE reasons initially. Part of Statesman's 'play the game how I decide it should be played' mentality. Phase shift was designed for escape and was being used as a recharge mechanism (I know I did it). Chaining them would presumably re-enable the recharge possibilities, so you could argue that it affects PvE as well. Personally, I doubt that was an issue and it falls into the category below.

[ QUOTE ]
I doubt there's anyone that thinks all nerfs are down to PvP, but FWIW I believe some of them are.

[/ QUOTE ]

As noted above, PvP balance issues affecting powers which don't affect a target must affect PvE as well since there's no way to differentiate the different environments.

My annoyances with CoH/V would be:

1) Belligerent egotistical players trying to dominate certain chat channels, groups and playstyles

2) Mandatory content - this complaint breaks down into 2 sub-complaints:
i) being forced to go see PvP contacts, David Wincott, Seer Marino, Security Chiefs, etc. when you hit their level range
ii) being allotted a story arc (i.e. the book icon) upon a referral before even speaking to the new contact, which forces you to either a) do their content now while it's worth xp (leaving you less time to do content of your own choosing in that level range), b) clear their content later once it is worth no xp, c) not do their content and have them forever cluttering up your active contact list. Either get rid of arc limits and allow us to force contacts inactive at our own choice, OR just make sure contacts that ONLY offer an arc get given an intro mission that isn't part of the arc so being referred to the contact doesn't automatically register you for the arc.

3) Some of the truly dull content hero-side, as others have mentioned:
i) contacts with no charisma/personality/depth (like villain-side ones have) because their missions have to be written in such a generic way that they can be offered by half a dozen different contacts across a couple of zones
ii) too much travel between zones at low levels
iii) too many cookie-cutter hunt missions (they should rip all of the hunt missions off contacts and stick them on the security chief in each zone as repeatable content, for those who want outdoor missions) - especially hunts for mobs that are hard to find (i.e. CoT in King's Row that mainly spawn on rooftops at night, Carnies in PI that have to compete with Malta/Nem/Rikti for spawnpoints and are being heavily hunted by players anyway)
iv) story arc writing not up to the recent standards of CoV and the new /revamped zones (the original CoH content needs a re-write)
v) TFs & story arcs with far too much mission repetition

Yeah my Ill/rad did something terrible, I joined a team and out levelled the end of an arc, now I'm stuck with an open one for ages until 3N days (N being the number of missions left in the arc)

I’d like to put the word ‘of’ in to room 101.

This would stop people posting on forums and using ‘of’ when they should be using ‘have’. As in ‘should have’ not ‘should of’ or ‘would have’ not ‘would of’. I actually find this more annoying than the incorrect use of the words borrow and lend. I have never borrowed you anything, you stupid child, I have lent you something, you have borrowed it from me. I’m not asking for perfect grammar as I’d have no chance either, but a little care goes a long way. Now sort it out otherwise there will be trials followed by hangings.

Right. I’m off to shoot some 12 year old American ****** bags in TF. Then Mr Angry will need a hug.

Not really CoX specific though, is it?

I'm not going to read through all the posts, but I can put money on it that someone has said "Removal of PvP" or something anti-PvP related. My answer to that is No.

My 3 annoyances are as follows:

1. Players that moan about PvP
2. Expensive recipes (Increase the rare drop rates damnit!)
3. Players that moan about PvP (I'd remove them in an instant) It makes the game less fun and tedious listening to the anti-PvP rants on and off the game, if they don't like PvP they should go and play Pac Man (as someone "suggested" on arena yesterday )

But you associate all PvPers with the small minority of PvPers that broadcast I PWND J00 NOOB ROFLMAO etc etc, and that isnt fair. A lot of PvPers that I know do [u]not[u] do that. I PvP for fun and for the adrenaline buzz, not to tell people that their build of the character is [censored] and most of the PvP community are the same. Most of the PvE community tarnish those who don't express that kind of language or behaviour with the same stick that do. And its certaily comments such as yours that proves this

I'm throwing EVERYONE into Room 101.

Plus all the devs, servers, zones and mobs! EVERYTHING!

GAAAH!

(damn I want a ciggie. *Starts singing "Tempt me not foul cigerette"*)

Seriously I do want to throw Castle in slightly as most of the changes he's made which would have seemed to solve many of my little irks (Flaming Oil Slick scaring Controller pets, Grave Knights relucatance to get into melee fixed by having them draw their swords for the Blasts) seem to have made bugger all difference.

In fact the Knights now seem to draw their swords twice (or at least play the Ching noise) and still need prodding into Melee same as always.

Singy is still a big girls blouse as far as the Flaming Oil Slick goes.

And yet point 3 in your list illustrates the kind of attitude that can put people off (albeit probably expressed a little tongue in cheek).

I will admit, I did have one PVP sesh a while back on Defiant as a villain which I thoroughly enjoyed. I got my backside repeatedly handed to me on a plate by obviously much more experienced players, but that's only to be expected.

With EVERY other PVP experience (blue and red, and both servers) I've had, the zone has been populated by cretins. Either smacktalk across broadcast along the lines you describe or one example in RV where I was attacking pillboxes and told to "go and find your own".

My earlier suggestion for 101 was some of the players of this game. In my experience, PVP zones appear to have a particularly high concentration of the type I was referring to, and I'm not "in" to PVP enough to want to tolerate them unfortunately.

Oh i've had worse Joined a sewer team on a lowbie alt the other day (first time ever i think!) on a whim and got stuck with a guy who insisted on using "dude" at least twice in every sentence;

"hey dude wanna get sum more people dude?"
"dudes, xp in here is great dudes!" *looks down at skintight lycra doing nothing to conceal feminine assets*
And my personal favourite - "dudes! anyone got an awaken dudes!?"

Strangely, noone did.

keeping on topic

Aside the great paragon marathon which had been mentioned a few times before
also this:
- timed missions: Make it clear when you select a mission that it is a timed one. I often select missions in the morning (just checking the AH bids and sells then) so I can start a mission in the evening the moment i log in, and cause you're in a hurry you accidently select a timed one. Please put it in the head that it is a timed mission. maybe with red letters. Several times I could not even determine it was timed one by reading the discription. Make it more obvious. Also make the timed mission in the zone of the contact. I happen to have a relativly fast computer now, but on my old computer it took ages to get to the mission (great paragon marathon and bad loading times don't work very well together) and I didn't have enough time to finish it, which i would have done if it had been in the same zone.

Posted

Agreed that timed missions should give ample warning. I do kinda like the fact they count down right away though, as if your contact has suddenly come upon vital information and time is running out, adds a certain sense of urgency.

Now what i'd really like to see are missions that BECOME timed as you go through them. Say have a cutscene or just a written clue when you pick up a glowy/mission objective etc, that triggers a timed event, like having to take out an AV b4 they escape, or escape from the mission b4 the place blows (a la Hess TF - of course make the exit mission button not appear) or trigger a series of computers in sequence to stop an evil scientist releasing a deadly plague etc. I just find it hard "connecting" with a lot of the recycled missions we have (esp in heroes), they have no sense of urgency or importance, they are just there when you want them for gaining xp. Also would like to see branching storylines where failing a mission leads to a different arc.

I know i'm derailing into suggestions territory here rather than room 101....so if you reverse engineer all those suggestions, you can see my complaints

* A VERY personal one here and no doubt controversial, and not one i'd want anything done about...I just find it kinda sad these days that we see so few fire/kins being played for fun. It was my first ever toon to 50 (3rd ever rolled) adnt he most fun i've had in the game. I had no idea how "uber" they were at the time and teamed/soloed to 50 slowly but surely. This was just after I3 i think (it was just after they changed it so you could only have 3 imps - so whenever that was) and she hit 50 probably just before I5. I think it's a wonderful combo irrespective of thier herding/PLing potential (and wonderfully overpowered) but it seems all I see of them these days are farming/PLing in PI (can't remember the last time I saw a non lvl-50), all with nearly the EXACT SAME cookie cutter build. It just seems they've been relegated to farming tools rather than good fun toons. And some of the names...you can tell by the lack of imagination that they were only lvled for one purpose. My hats off to any litle fire/kin's out there in team/solo pvp enjoying your experience, it's a wonderful thing (oh and look me up, i want to see you to beleive it )

[/ QUOTE ]

I have a Fire/Kins troller on union and am not 50, nor do i have a template. I'm playing for fun. I WILL send you a message

Note to self - check how pages 'old' this thread is before only replying to the first page's comment

3 things for me...

1 - Warshades and Peacebringers squashyness to Voids / Galaxy / etc

2 - people who don't read search comments because only the first 10 characters are immediately shown on the search without running the mouse over it.

3 - one that im kicking myself for now. and that is: deciding my first toon in villains would be a thugs / shields mastermind - which leads on to people who don't wait for me to bubble up my thugs / the team before heading off and starting the mission without me.

Don't get me wrong, i enjoy the character. it just takes forever to start missions because of the time it takes to give the thugs the bubbles and 2 lots of upgrades each mission
