  1. Personally I can't really see a justifiable reason for a change (although I wouldn't say no to it). Every set has at least one "meh" power, some even have several (forcefield, dark blast etc.) and fallout is a lot more useful than some. I have it on my plant/rad troller because I had nothing better to take and needed a one-slot power to save slots for elsewhere. Just stuck a damage in it, though I might change it for a -tohit, it's only real use i've found is when someone dies right next to an AV, then the debuff is handy.

    TF - Yay or nay?

    good morning lovelies,

So, i have a lvl 48 sonic/em blaster, and was considering getting rid of TF. Most likely to pick up boost range instead as I figure it may help me should I ever choose to PvP with her. She is a pure ST blapper build, has 2 st ranged attacks (scream and shout, shake it all about), energy punch and bonesmasher, which with hasten and +45% recharge from sets seems to get me by just fine.

TBH most of the time I don't use total focus because of the animation time - it's pretty much only to ensure a stun on a boss with screech.

So, opinions, do you think i'll really miss not having TF? will screech + BS be too unreliable for mezzing bosses?

Ta in advance, will post my build later.

    Kitty

  3. Just one thing...no earthquake?!?! Hope that was just an oversight. An earth troller without earthquake is like tea without biscuits...bland and unfulfilling.

I am also not fond of stone cages. Big end cost, and interferes with quake. Would try to get clarity earlier too.

  4. Your very welcome, and incidentally, when patron respecs become availble i'll be going Mu Mastery anyway. Web grenade is handy, but I rarely use it, as it takes too long to execute and mucks up my chains. The AoE from Mu might be the way to go for some between-stomps damage.
  5. Ok i stuck your build in mids and had a good look. A few comments;

    1) Personally I wouldn't bother slotting either 3 res in Grounded or 3 heal in health. You get all of about 3% extra res (mostly to nrg which you have massive res to anyway) and with no other regen to stack it with health isn't doing too much.
    2) I would take those slots and 6 slot all your attacks and lighning field. put a set of multistrike (v cheap) in it for max dam/end and plenty of acc. I would say that next to stomp it does the most damage for me, with full fury i get ticks of damage in the 20s, saves me loads of attacks on minions with only a sliver of life left.
    3) I was wondering how you got boxing in so early and noticed that you put static sheild off till 22, but you still dont take tough until 44 anyway. I would put boxing in much later, your attack chain will be fine - think of boxing as basically brawl - i wouldn't slot it either. In fact i think i still had brawl on auto for most of my brutes career until IOs sped up her chain.
    4) Weave - with nothing to stack it with I really dont think less than 6% def is going to do you any favour esp considering it's end drain. If your not going for an IO build you also have nothing to stack it with. Even if you did IO there are not too many sets you can slot with these sets that will increase your def noticeably. This will also free up more slots for aid self, which needs to be 6 slotted - you want interrupts in it.
    5) with your current slotting you have a 27 second downtime on rage and the third tohit gives you less than 2% extra acc. Change one of the tohits for a second recharge to gets it down to 2 seconds shorter than it's duration (perma).
    6) Footstomp is woefully underslotted. I'm not of the opinion that you should rely entirely on fury for damage, as the buffs you get from slotting still help, plus there are times when your fury is hindered, for whatever reason. It wants 6 slots, ideally a set (again multistrike is really cheap and effective).

[edit] to answer your question, no slotting end mod in lightning field wont give you back any endurance, it will just increase the amount drained from mobs. I'd slot it for damage anyway, why sap when you can squish? [edit]

I think it would be easiest here if I just put up my build for you to see. Although it's all-IO it's not a terribly expensive build. You wouldn't have to go for Crushing Impact sets (the priciest part), I just wanted the extra recharge buff for footstomp. Also...you really shouldn't find endurance to be an issue. If it has been it's likely your slotting. Don't be afraid to frankenslot things either, thats what i tend to do on toons that I can't justify a massively expensive build on but it still makes a hell of a difference.

    Take a look..

AI changes are ideal but I feel a tad unrealistic with what we've come to expect from content updates.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hell yes, not expecting it to happen, but the question wasn't "what do you expect to happen to make AVs more interesting?"

If AV/GMs are given scripted powers of somekind and the rewards are increased to the point where they're worth it, they will be learned and farmed. Then they aren't interesting anymore.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Quite true. But then I think that's always going to be the case, as it is in any other game. I would love to see unique, random AI/scenarios that make every fight different...but i would SETLLE for just having them each have some kind of signiture event/quirk that makes them different from the others. Frankly atm there may as well be no difference betweem bobcat, valkyrie, ms liberty etc. At least states has thunderbolts and malaise has decoys etc.

It's still the same every time but at least I feel like i'm fighting a real signture villain rather than just beating up a tougher-than-usual blaster
  7. Agreed that timed missions should give ample warning. I do kinda like the fact they count down right away though, as if your contact has suddenly come upon vital information and time is running out, adds a certain sense of urgency.

Now what i'd really like to see are missions that BECOME timed as you go through them. Say have a cutscene or just a written clue when you pick up a glowy/mission objective etc, that triggers a timed event, like having to take out an AV b4 they escape, or escape from the mission b4 the place blows (a la Hess TF - of course make the exit mission button not appear) or trigger a series of computers in sequence to stop an evil scientist releasing a deadly plague etc. I just find it hard "connecting" with a lot of the recycled missions we have (esp in heroes), they have no sense of urgency or importance, they are just there when you want them for gaining xp. Also would like to see branching storylines where failing a mission leads to a different arc.

I know i'm derailing into suggestions territory here rather than room 101....so if you reverse engineer all those suggestions, you can see my complaints
  8. Agreed, should have said in my previous post that "tanking" with a SS/Elec brute is pretty much only viable on a very small team, or one with a lot of buffs. I wouldn't even think of trying to tank on a large team with no buffs. I'd forever be relying on powersurge or insps, which i dislike.

One good thermal is usually enough to keep me vertical though - unles it's longbow.

Has anyone twigged that I REALLY REALLY hate longbow on my brute!
  9. I agree that unpredicatable AVs would be a big bonus, I was just thinking of adding a little interest to make each one different (between AVs, obviously fighting the same AV will yeild the same experience) that would be relatively easy and quick to implement. AI changes are ideal but I feel a tad unrealistic with what we've come to expect from content updates.

The fight with Dr Aeon IS the same every time, granted, and i'm sure if you do the STF every other day it gets very dull, but it's STILL always more interesting than a fight with marauder or bobcat or neuron to name but a few. These use conventional powers and offer no additional risk or unique attacks/situations to differentiate between them.
  10. Hey guys thanks for the feedback. Sry Okt I totally forgot I started this thread until I saw Snow's post

    My NW is effectively shelved for the moment for several reasons;

    1) I had an awful time playing her over the weekend of the lag from hell and it's just left me with a bad (and probably unreasonable) impression of her I can't seem to shake just yet. and...
    2) most importantly, I cant change the claws! I was kinda expecting to be able to have all the nice customisable and unlockable claws to play with instead of being stuck with the nasty stumpy little ones Widow's get. I rolled a claws/wp scrapper instead
    3) This might sound weird but I kinda get the impression she's gonna be overpowered later on in her villiany career and that always puts me off a toon.

Your suggestions have been noted and will be considered should I ever dust her off though hopefully by then there will be more guides around too, which will help.
  11. I've always had tough and aid self on my SS/Elec and she's still quite squishy depending on the mobs (i'm looking at you longbow).

Personally, to answer your query about powerpicks, I skipped jab for punch, and use air superiority (with fly as my travel) for the extra attack (does more dam than jab i beleive and the reliable kd gels very well with SS). I also never felt a need to take hasten, I am never waiting for an attack with some IO slotting for +rec (mainly for stomp) and lightning reflexes. If at any point you encounter stacking slows, boxing is a decent filler. Also didn't take hurl, I don't rate is as an attack anyway (you can get ranged attacks in epics) and the long animation may interfere with fury. I got aid self in at about 24 i think, then tough in at 44. I only got the area web grenade from the patrons (tbh don't use it much, it's animation is too long) as I don't really rate brute epics.

I did try playing with stacked rage for a while too and frankly found it to do more harm then good. You just end up with more frequent crashes. Keeping your fury up is more effective.
  12. Personally I would like to see more signiture attacks from AVs. Thinking of ones like nightstar etc. as the most boring - they are basically just "normal" ATs with higher HP and regen (and unlimited end).

I'd also like to see more unique scenario's. Fighting Dr Aeon in the STF is a good example of this when he summons his clones. I'm thinking your fighting an AV and when they get to half health they run off and the team gets shut in for a massive ambush of thier minions which they then have to defeat in order to get to the AV again etc. etc. just to throw out a random idea. Things like that would also be a bit more in character as rarely in superhero fiction do the "big bosses" hang around whilst being pumelled by 8 hero's.

I think they should have more tricks up thier sleeve rather than just massive HP or phasing/MOGing etc.

I’d like to put the word ‘of’ in to room 101.

This would stop people posting on forums and using ‘of’ when they should be using ‘have’. As in ‘should have’ not ‘should of’ or ‘would have’ not ‘would of’. I actually find this more annoying than the incorrect use of the words borrow and lend. I have never borrowed you anything, you stupid child, I have lent you something, you have borrowed it from me. I’m not asking for perfect grammar as I’d have no chance either, but a little care goes a long way. Now sort it out otherwise there will be trials followed by hangings.

Right. I’m off to shoot some 12 year old American ****** bags in TF. Then Mr Angry will need a hug.

Hehe agree with you on this one Leigh.. while we're at it can we include the over use of the word "like" too?

    Oh i've had worse Joined a sewer team on a lowbie alt the other day (first time ever i think!) on a whim and got stuck with a guy who insisted on using "dude" at least twice in every sentence;

"hey dude wanna get sum more people dude?"
"dudes, xp in here is great dudes!" *looks down at skintight lycra doing nothing to conceal feminine assets*
And my personal favourite - "dudes! anyone got an awaken dudes!?"

    Strangely, noone did.
  14. Um, is this for PvE or PvP? from the look of it i'd assume PvP.

Just a few issues re: slotting

Only one slot in blind? but so many in swift, stamina, fly, superior invis and the rez? Set bonuses are nice but personally I wouldn't sacrifice buffs on powers that are essential by pouring slots into the nonessential ones (just personal taste). For PvP i'd prolly want more tohits in forge - your ally buffs are going to be your main selling point there.

I'd also really want spectral terror, fabulous little power in PvP, and cheap on slots too.
  15. I'm not sure any have been stated to be explicitly for PvP purposes, but that is often the strong impression you get from some of the changes. As for the last one?...hmm, they changed the repel on hurricane in some way (think it ticks less often) to prevent people being locked into corners in PvP (odd coz that's what I thought it was for ), but not sure that actually had any negative impact on PvE. Also some might argue the recent EM "nerf" was PvP biased, but then equally as many would argue it was overperforming in PvE anyway.
  16. good one, but i'd also counter that with; lack of auras. Choices I mean. I can't remember the last time a new aura was added - we get new cossie pieces and capes etc all the time, but no new auras. (before anyone points it out - having flies buzzing around you does not count! I want pretty auras )

I want the fx you get when using hoarfrost or frostwork to be an aura! also many others I can't recall at this time, but they are very pretty...
  17. Ok guys, stearing the thread gently yet firmly away from the can of acid-spewing worms that is PvP...this thread is more about those little "quirks" in gameplay that we love to hate. The little bits of "design" that make you think "who on earth had that idea?" rather than to discuss the big controversial game-breaking topics

To add another one to the list; the way when your on a team (thinking TFs here in particular) and your trying to read the mission info/story...and it keeps dissappearing every 5 seconds, then rescrolls to the top, grrr!

I still need a power set for my Grandma Death MM... posted this ages ago but couldn't find the link so for your consideration I give you...

    --== Old Ladies! ==--

Flick Murray Mint - Ranged, Light Damage (Smashing/Minty), fast recharge

The Mastermind flicks murray mints at the target causing light damage with a small chance to confuse the enemy with its bland yet oddly satisfying flavour.

Little Old Ladies - Summon 1-3 Little old ladies

Calls forth one to three Little Old Ladies (the second is available at level six, the third at level eighteen) to do your bidding. Little Old Ladies totter towards the enemy at a surprising speed, but they are still the lowest rank Old Ladies and only possess the most rudimentary murray mint attacks. However, they can be trained in more advance techniques invloving hitting enemies on the head with walking sticks. You may only have 3 Little Old Ladies under your control at any given time. If you attempt to call Little Old Ladies, you can only replace the ones you have lost in battle. If you already have three, the power will fail.

Berrate Youth - Melee, Moderate Damage(Smashing/Leathal)

The Mastermind hits the enemy repeatly round the head with his walking stick while ranting that the youth of today have no respect, causing moderate damage and with a small chance to disorient the target.

Equip Old Ladies - Ranged, Equip Henchman

Train your Old Ladies with more advanced techniques and weaponry. This power permanently bestows new powers and abilities to one Old Lady. The powers gained are unique and dependent upon the target. This power only works on your Old Ladies and you can only Train any given Old Lady once. (see appendix)

Bingo Night - Summon gaggle of women at bus stop (Calls approximately 10 old women)

Calls a gaggle of 10 or so 'Old Women' to come to your aid for a brief while. The Bingo Gaggle are not like your true Henchman. They cannot be given direct commands, nor will they appear in your pet window. You must select an enemy target calling these Old Women. The Bingo Gaggle are many, but they are very weak, and rather than attack the target they simply surround them and start complaining about how the bus service is not what it used to be, and what a nice young man the target is, rendering the target unable to attack and lowering its defenses. Although they will follow you, they are not as loyal as your Henchmen, and they will only stick around for a few minutes before wandering off to buy cat food.

Tea Ladies - Summon Tea Ladies

Calls forth one to two Tea Ladies (the second is available at level twenty-four) to do your bidding. Tea Ladies are armed with stories that go no-where about members of their family no one has ever met, which cause PBAoE damage over time. Their weapon of choice is an cup of tea, which they will spill over anyone in a large radius around them, and can be equipped to carry up to 2 at once. You may only have 2 Tea Ladies under your control at any given time. If you attempt to call more Tea Ladies, you can only replace the ones you have lost in battle. If you already have two, the power will fail.

Nice Cup of Tea - Full Heal Old Lady

The Mastermind hands the Old Lady a 'Nice Cup of Tea', restoring them to full health and restores some of her endurance. This power only works on your Old Ladies

Mobility Scooter Lady - Summon Shop Mobility Scooter

Summons one Old Lady riding a Shop Mobility Scooter. Simply put, the Mobility Scooter Lady is a killing machine. There is nothing subtle about her weaponry, as she simply mows down opponents having not seen them due to her dodgy eye sight. You may only have 1 Mobility Scooter Lady under your control at any given time. If you attempt to summon another Mobility Scooter Lady, the power will fail.

Upgrade Old Ladies - Ranged, Equip Henchman

Upgrade your Old Ladies with more advanced techniques and equipment. This power permanently bestows new powers and abilities to one Old Lady. The powers gained are unique and dependent upon the target. This power only works on your Old Ladies and you can only upgrade any given Old Lady once. (see appendix)

Appendix - Equip and Upgrade Details

    Equip Old Ladies

    - Little Old Ladies: Given Walking Sticks and tartan shopping trolly, Berrate Youth Attack
    - Tea Ladies: Given Tea Trolley and Tabard, Nice Cup of Tea Power
    - Mobility Scooter Lady - Given front mounted shopping basket (Improved damage/knockback).

    Upgrade Old Ladies

    - Little Old Ladies: Given Zimmer Frame, and 'Zimmer Charge' AoE Attack.
    - Tea Ladies: Steaming Tea Ern, and scalding 'Ooo didn't see you there' AoE Attack
    - Mobility Scooter Lady - Given a Clip On Rain Guard (improved defense), and Sonic 'rubbish horn' attack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL...just, lol. My manager is now giving me the evil eye thank you very much, apparently monthly reports shouldn't be that hilarious.

I'd like to add an attack though - Hairnet. I'm thinking AoE immobilise a la wide area web grenade. Helps to keep mobs in range of AoE tea attacks.
  19. Acutally I don't think anyone's mentioned PvP yet

I personally have no problem with PvP, I have dabbled in it but rarely so as it's just so hideously unbalanced and I can never bring myself to respec a good PvE toon into a decent PvP build

My one irritation would be PvPers that go out of thier way to ruin PvP for others - luckily i'm immune as I don't care for it anyway

[edit] apologies for excessive use of smilies...Golden Girl...taking over....body!

  20. Ok I don't like thism, this thread is getting vaguely educational! (quite right though it's George Orwell, don't know where Orson Wells came from in my head).

Anyway, back to moaning! Anyone else just HATE HATE HATE the pointless kill 50 malta/carnies/insert really annoying mobs here missions you get from some contacts in PI? When i was still a n00b (yes, I know it doens't seem possible) and got my first toon to near 50 I mistakenly did about 6 of these from one contact before realising they were going to keep giving them infinitely!

    Lag on Union

Same thing here, was suspiciously lag-free this evening. I would have posted on it earlier but I was too busy squuuuueeeezing every last drop of fun out of the game as I could while it lasts

The slow on glue persists and spreads as long as the anchor lives (iirc - it's an odd way to have a power work i agree)

    [/ QUOTE ]

The glue has no anchor, you only need a target but it is anchored to an area and will stay there, anyone effected by it should be effected by the slow for the duration you slot it for.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm pretty sure that new mobs entering the glue area can be affected by it only as long as the original target (anchor was a poor choice of word) is alive. Once he drops no new mobs will be affected. That's my understanding of it anyway.

    Lag on Union

Just to bump this a bit...just logged on and the lag is still here, that would be day 3 for me and many others. It doesn't seem as bad as last night but it's still pretty nasty.

Netgraph is averaging 170-200 but theres very frequent red spikes (lost packets?) all over the place.

Would it be possible to get a red-name update on this issue? As seen from the other thread this doesn't seem to be isp or region specific.
  24. seconded, thirded and other multiples re: the lag. How am i supposed to enjoy the many many things ingame that annoy the hell out of me if i cant play!

    Lag on Union

yup thats pretty much it, it's the server catching up with what you've done (i think). This also means you may have to press a power several times to get a response and that damage taken (as well as dealt) may be delayed. This is particularly dangerous as it can lead to nasty lag-death(tm). also any personal buffs or inspiration use will suffer the same delays.
