I wonder high how the insult meter would go if a redname would post anywhere on the forum assuring us that we have not been forgotten.

Well it is almost at the point where IF they end up posting this side of the swimming pool again that they would have a LOT of explaining to do.
We havent created too much of a fuss yet but looks like a war is about to happen

Round 1: EU v the The Devs! , whos going to win!

A lot of the NCNC dev interaction on the forums is done during break times and before/after work hours, and as such a personal choice. If I was an NCNC dev, and I thought I had reason to believe I'd be met with hostility, I wouldn't visit here either. I'd suggest that in at least two cases (BAB and Jay) that's a reasonable belief to hold, and that's going to flow through to the rest of the dev team. It's that simple.

As the video is now shelved, we're going to go through it and pull out some of the nuggets of information we received that we can share with you. It'll take a couple of days.

Thanks for the candour GR.

The situation is unfortunately a shame, since I know a lot of us would like more direct interaction with the Devs, but no one expects them to feel comfortable posting here if they expect to be lambasted for it.

Though honesty compels me to note that if they were to post here more frequently, there is less likely to be a negative slant on our opinions of them, as it would give us more opportunity to get to know their posting styles, rather than being the faceless entities that they are right now to many of us (except the few here who spend some of their time on the US forums, too).

I would hate for there to exist a spiral of dislike between us and the Devs, with us moaning that they never interact directly with us, and them feeling that they dare not do so because they expect to be torn to shreds.

To take a case in point: War Witch has met a fair number of our frequent flie... erm... posters, and seemed to think we were nice enough people (and SHE is an absolute angel). That is the reception I think most of the devs would get if they posted here - not the slating that has, unfortunately previously happened as a result of what appears to be some level of misunderstanding.

I'd say that it would be worth us, the EU players, attempting to open a dialogue with the devs. Is there any way that we can do that, GR?

I don't believe bridges have been burnt to such an extent because to put it plainly - we have not had enough contact to warrant such a stance. I do not think (and hope not) they feel this way about us.
On every occassion I have noted, Devs Interaction has been warmly welcomed EU.side, for every stupid comment there has been fifty enthusiastic ones. This is clearly a case of having different forums working against feeling included in the development of the game.

I don't see the problem personally, Its just a different URL. Stateside they get Dev.posts personally replying to questions (and even dropping by for a chat) several times daily and weekly - EU.side(with the exception of WW).... almost nothing.

I appreciate the time difference, I appreciate the EU.translation problems, but if there is discontent it is because we want to feel included and zero-Dev.interaction makes us feel neglected.
I'd encourage the Dev.team to poke their heads-in every now again and say "Hi !" and have a chat. As I see it, It is the fans enthusiasm keeping the EU.community going here... and it is finite.

You're not supposed to actually admit that we are the lesser loved step-child, you know.

We understand why the developers don't post much over here -- the reasons aren't particularly obscure or subtle (and despite what it might seem at times, most of us don't attribute it to malice.) "Why" doesn't really matter, though, does it? Not from a CR point of view, anyway:

You have a part of your customer base who feel neglected and that they're receiving an inferior service[1]. That's a CR problem that needs to be solved, or at least alleviated. Telling them that "Yes, you're neglected" doesn't really do either.

Sure, BaB and Jay got mobbed and received a lot of pepper the last time they ventured across the Atlantic. They were mobbed for the same reason people get excited about Haley's comet -- it's only here once a lifetime -- and the pepper wasn't any hotter than what they receive on the US forum, there was just more of it, as people had a lot more stored up. Their reception was a symptom of the underlying problem, and not the cause.

[1] And to be honest, it is. Not by so much I personally see any point in directing my CoH client to Ellis Island (besides, I like the community here), but I'd have a hard time recommending an EU account over an US account to someone new to the game.

Well, some people were very silly when BAB popped over here to say hi

When BAB came and posted here he was met by a barrage of vitriolic comments. Sure, it was only about three people (and you could probably guess who they where), but when you don't know anyone it creates an impression of general hostility.

Even when BAB wasn't here he has been viciously attacked over his jokes by humourless (and fartherless) people on these boards.

I really should do something about this signature.

My memory might be a bit hazey but when BAB posted over here I seem to remember that he didn't have a proper Redname and a lot of people thought that he was a hoaxer. Is this right or did something else happen to warrant this situation?

The vitriol came after he was proved genuine.

It was something else, BM. After he DID get a proper Redname account.

I can't remember the details, but there were a few people here who were, frankly, a bit idiotic in their response.

American sarcasm should never be used. It just ain't funny and comes across as rude to the people who are essentially paying you.

I'd just like to point out that BaBs DOES answer private messages still.

When doing my perma-halloween costume power topic I decided to ask him incase anyone raised the point of some NPCs would not be able to use all the animations. Apparently if they use the same human skeleton, they can (which is nifty).

So he does reply to private messages but I get the feeling that he was kind of soured on posting on the main forums due to what happened when he did turn up.

The trouble is it's a viscious circle, the Devs don't post, people get peeved, they post, they get some insults after they do turn up because they only show up once in a blue moon and this causes them to lose confidence on posting here and the whole cycle starts again.

Besides I doubt the vitriol they recieved is any less or more than what they recieve on the US forums.

I won't tell you my opinion of you, since you are one of the people responsible for driving BAB away from these boards.

yeah sorry for WAY overreacting there GR *goes into the naughty corner*
But i hope you can appreciate our concerns that all we - the players - want is to feel like we have more interaction with them.

I read the US boards almost as much as these but i do have to say we seem to have the more friendlier board community out of the two (might just be i dont get their sense of humour and vice versa obv). Hope none of them feel like they cant post here for fear of egging but we want a hello dammit! (inserted a smiley to keep it friendly*ish* )

ah so what your saying, is he doesn't get paid to be a sarcastic git? He just chooses to do so?

Bit odd when the devs are trolling their own boards though.

I find it odd that we're being told that it's essentially our fault we get a lesser service. Most companies wouldnt be so blunt to their clients. But I must point out that from my experience, NCsoft and all associated personel provide the highest level of interaction that I have experienced in a game, and that is most definitely a good thing. I would aslo point out at this that I find both Jay and BAB (but Jay more) very very funny. I don't know what Jay is on, but I want me some!

He has a right to inject his own personality into his posts. As I recall, it actually went over quite well in the US. And I, personally, can look past the tone of his posts to the message that he is actually giving, and I appreciate him taking the time and trouble to do so.

The fact that some of us may not appreciate, may dislike, and may despise his individualism does not detract from the fact that many of us have been practically begging for the devs to post here, and when they do a few of us rip into them because of a visceral reaction to things they have said that we either did not take the time to consider or simply misunderstood.

So, here's my advice: The next time BaB posts something here that anyone doesn't like because of the way it's phrased, click the "Notify Moderator" button instead of ripping into him.
