What time to you usually play? I'm almost always on late at night, and never have any trouble getting ateam if I want one.

Friday - Sunday I don't connect, but when I do it's anytime during the day and for hours. If I find a good team, TF, etc etc etc...
I don't have ... and indeed never have had a problem finding teams on Defiant or Union
My view on the the Defiant/Union debate is this.
Union is certainly the busier of the two and yes .. it does have a lot of chat firing about. Defiant has less chat but this isn't down to it having less players.
Players on Defiant I find are generally more ... serious and less prone to spamming broadcast chat in whatever zone they are in.
I started on Union, before shifting to Defiant. Currently I'm playing a few low lev alts on Union as well as carrying on with mid 30's/40's and 50's on Defiant - so I'm in a good position to make this observation.
I prefer the lack of chat on Defiant. The spam on Union was one of the reasons I moved in the first place - particularly Atlas and other low lev zones.
This isn't a snipe at Union ... it's just the way it is - and I couldn't even begin to say why it's this way.

I've always played on Defiant and I've never found the above a problem at all. Not sure where you got that from but there is always friendly faces waiting around in Atlas to chat to (although during the day it is rather quiet, us deviants aren't particulaly early birds 
)
I would have said the same thing about Union seeming quiet but thats because I've never had a toon past like lvl 3 on it . However, I presume its pretty much the same as defiant, personally I think the biggest problem is the fact that both servers have each been given some type of stereotype such as defiant being quiet and union being full of spam, but I guess you can't go on that unless you have played or had experience in both servers.
Either way you'll probably find most people will defend their server which they most deem to be home for their toons!

As a Defiant player almost exclusively i have to say i don't have a problem getting teams. I have a very full global list and membership of 2 specific SG biased global chat channels. Finding a team of some sort is easily done, although you often have to change character to someone lower/around the teams level. Coalition can also be your friend, but thanks to global it is hardly used anymore.
Find a popular, well 'used' Supergroup and you'll have no problem finding teams at all, believe me.
I sometimes get the idea that people 'finding teams' means waiting for an invite to come in your direction, blind or otherwise. If no one is sending you an invite, get pro-active! Start asking! Invite people into your 1 man team (but send a tell first!) I've had 6-8 man teams at 2AM weekdays before. The teams are out there, but sometimes you have to look for them.

I have a long Global list, but it's useless if just 3 people are connected. I'm in 5 global chats (Liberty Legion, Need Team, Defiant Badgers, Defiant Events and Spanish Channel). And I use them for asking for a team, a TF, a whatever.

Liberty Legion was a crowded SG. We had even to split in 4 SG due to the big amount of players and their alts. Now we are lucky if 5 people are connected, almost every Legionnaire is now playing LoTRO.

I use global chats and Search option in the game, asking people around or below my lvl. After 1h with no luck, I disconnect, if I'm not in the soloing mood, of course. And trying to play a TF is much harder than that, months ago it was asking for people interested in Defiant Events and in 5 minutes team was built. Now you have to post it here in the forums 1 week before, just for delaying it 1 more week because not enough people was gathered. Believe me, I've tried. Have you joined any New Hami Raid, for example? I don't, and I haven't seen *ever* a message in Defiant Events/Badgers or wherever asking people to join one...

Well, whoever is running the channels could come to some agreement start a new channel called Defaint Badges and Events, and post a MotD on both the old channels, explaing about the new channel, and informing everyone that in 1 week, the admins of the old channels wil be removing everyone from them.

I have no trouble finding or making teams on deviant, and certainly dont see any less people than I do on onion.
Unless I am on at a silly time there seems to be a good 300 on /sea.

Yes its true unfortunately.
Has to be said though as others have pointed out that getting a team on Defiant is far from hard....just don't expect people to randomly invite you all the time.

Maybe 2% of the people actually are willing to start a team of their own. Its something to improve on.
