Write a novel in a month! NaNoWriMo 2006 for CoH

My story starts with the protagonist waking up, so I'm gonna start it at the same time. Share the mood as you will. Gonna spend today getting the house into a state where I can work for a month and not get food poisoning, again.

It's snowing here. And I don't mean just a little. The forecasted 20 cm may well happen.

Seeing how Andre (Coile) comes from North Dakota I just might have something to write about.

I'll be starting when I wake up for a couple of hours, then I have a few things to do, such as a meeting and shopping for food, then after that, pure writing until my hands fall off.

I then spend the next 29 days figuring out how to attach them back on.

I'm pretending I live in New Zealand, so I've already started writing.

So far, I've got: "WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY 50,000 words in 30 days is impossible! Why did you let me get myself into this, brain?! And just what exactly am I supposed to make out of all these sites you've bookmarked. I don't know anything about the Boer war!!!!!"

I'm getting there.

Erm.... Winston Churchill was involved in it. And that's the limit of my knowledge. Completely. I don't know anything else other than that. And English. And how to type. And how to use a computer. And how to use a forum. And how to waffle..... etc.

I've realised I could possibly have legitimately started a few days earlier to alleviate the handicap I have of only 20 free days in November. However my brain did not think of this until this morning, and I want to ding level 21 first.

I've just had an idea for two more stories and I want to write all three...I can feel it starting again...

Not to mention the 31 pieces of crockery already piled up around my chair....

The NaNo rules state that the novel must be written on November, from begin to end.

"I have a lot to do in November. Can I start in October and end early?
No. One of the best things about NaNoWriMo is the way it spreads the agony of creation throughout a large community of co-sufferers. For the pain to be properly distributed (and thereby diminished), all participants must be working on the same deadline."

Then again, nothing prevents from creating the scenes in the head in advance and then just typing out the words. ...if only it was that easy...

Less than 9 hours to go. I don't even know if I should write in chronological order, or skip between present day and past.

my creativity beat me. now...I've written the thing a day early..ah well it's only a day and I'll give myself a handicape of minus a day against me so that it can be fair.

Less than three hours to go. Zerglings are sleeping. Game is launching. AT some point I'll go and brew a fresh pot of black gold and get the empty document open.

I guess I'll start with the grandfather. World War II. Storm Korps.

Joined roughly five mins ago. Oh GOD, I'm doomed! ALL I have is an idea for an English occultist inspired by my signiture character, a deep-rooted desire to see it all done out nicely in a film-noir/fairy-tale form, and a thought that perhaps it should have an evil force that REALLY SEEMS EVIL!!!

Oh, wait.... that's not too bad!

aww don't worry. You ever try listening to music that makes you relax and concentrait? It works with me when I'm completely stumped. Beleive me. IT works...though I can't guarentee that for everyone.

I'll probably start tomorrow afternoon. At the moment, I'm helping my friend's girlfriend with some college coursework that needs to be in tomorrow (which she accidentally lost half of about 3 hours ago), which is a bit more important at this moment in time.

It's here....

Just read the rules... No editing? The horror! The horror! Not sure I could do that after having it chiselled into my brain, by so many creative writing tutors at college, that “all first drafts are garbage”

I hadn’t heard of NaNoWriMo before, but it sounds like really good discipline/motivation training for aspiring novel writers - I wish I’d known about it a few years ago - I used to find that the hardest thing was writing even when I didn't feel like it, but I’m more-or-less over that now, thanks to constantly guilt-tripping myself when I don’t meet my own targets

I think the trickiest thing for me about NaNoWriMo would be finding an idea that’s too small for a full novel, but too big to fit in a short story, yet wouldn’t need any padding. I’d have to give that a lot of thought. Not this year though - I have a self-imposed deadline this month for finishing something a teensy bit longer (which hopefully I'll get paid for). So good luck to everyone who is having a crack at it.

Went IG, learned that a teammate was missing, gathered team, went and found her. Then Coile's wife's recurring issue got to be the topic again and seeing the bad entangled mess turning into a more horrible situation lasted until 5 am. Two hours later up (that was 30 mins ago), zerglings out of the house, heading to work...

0 words so far.

I've has snappier starts.

Maybe the lack of sleep will later on produce some interesting fiction. Which is pretty much mandatory for me to survive this month at all.
