Write a novel in a month! NaNoWriMo 2006 for CoH
block.. severe..
I blame Russel Crowe as it happened just as Master and Commander came on.. now all i can think of is sea adventures..
One of my main characters has become (essentially) Scottish. And one possibly equates to Russian. They were all originally intended to be Germanic...
Well, I've got the difficult bits out of the way, I think. I still want to get another two chapters done today though...

Does anyone know if I'm able to submit a CoX fan fic will I need permission from cryptic and ncsoft as I'm guessing I will? And as it's obviouse hatr I would then how can I contact them about the subject?
Your story is encrypted, no one can read it - you're only judged on your word count - so no, you won't need permission
Plus, I'm doing CoH/V fiction, loudly proclaimed I'm doing so, posted it on the forums stating it's for the Nanoo Nanoo, and not had any warnings from Brdiger et al. so I'd guess it's fine.

Then your on dodgy legal ground, specifically that you're making money from Cryptic's work. The only way you'd be able to get that published would be through with Cryptic's permission; and I'd say they get 5 stories a week asking for that.
Charity would also be a problem, as any negative view of any of Cryptic's artisitc property could be seen as slander/libellous.
My advice, if you think it could sell, is to chat with RJ/Bridger about it and try and have it made part of their own Charity effort, as they did in Brighton, with all the proceeds going to Charity. A very similar thing was done at Continuum with scripts for the LRP's.
I can't say if they'd accept, but it will get your writing name out there for possible publishers and some money to a very deserving charity.
It would be a very nice idea though, and if any of the Rednames agree, it might be something to look at after I8 is released and debugged, as I think they might be too busy until then.

If you intended to have it professionally published, you'd almost definetly have to gain permission from Cryptic/NCSoft, as you'd be using elements Cryptic had created, unless you wrote the story in such a way it could be about any city with heroes in it.

yeah I was thinking that. by the time I finished the books I'll see if at the time they're working hard or not. If so then I'll ask them. I think I'll post a few chapters or something when it's gdone and rechecked.
Well, next chapter's up. Went over my quota today, so I have some slight cushion space for a few chapters hopefully.
Ok I put my completed work so far up. but remember this is jsut draft. I'll go back over it when finished.

Huuha! Chapter 5 completed. Quota exceeded. A good run, and now it's wime to delve in-game to gain more material on the current time pieces.
5 days of writing... My eyes ache, my back aches and I'm fairly convinced I going to get caffine poisoning...
...Pass me the matchsticks for my eyelids please x
Argh my characters are at it again! I was going to introduce the leader of my Thieves Guild as a sinister old man.. but when he opened the door he was camper than a row of tents!
Why do they insist on having lives of their own?

Thanks for the encouragement Coile
My problem is that I read what I've written and convince myself that I got lucky. It's being out of practice I think, I used to write a lot 15 or so years ago and remember getting over the same bump back then too. This Nanowrimojamaflip thing is a good exercise for getting back into writing I reckon.
Anyway, I'm back underway now. I fast forwarded to chapter 10 where our heroes get up to mischief at the Battle of Kursk. 1200 new words so far and I'm hoping to get another 800-1000 on top of that before bed. I'll easily ding 10k words tonight anyway.

Heh, he sounds like a great character already
I know what you mean about them having their own lives. My slight plot-device character, the drunk Cossack mechanic I mentioned yesterday, is already in danger of upstaging my other characters.

Ah this one'll only be in the one chapter briefly though, just a foil for one of the main characters.
Five chapters done, five main characters introduced, the actual story can start now... I did want to get chapter six underway before I went to bed, but my brain is starting to melt out of my ears, so I might just play a little bit instead. I'm still well on target, as if I get one chapter a day done there's still two days spare to play with.

39,650 words to go.
Chapter 10 is coming on nicely. Gotta love writing in random order
I still need a title though. Anyhoo, I put up my three main character's descriptions up on the excerpt thingy.
For CoX reference: Alexei is an ice Tanker, Novaskaya is a pre-AR AR Blaster (with the Leadership pool) and Sarovitch is a little sharp knife/seediness Stalker.
I'm actually waking up at intolerable (read:Morning) hours to work on this now. Also looking gorward to the screenwriting one in July.
I've not been able to go for more than a few words now without losing interest... for some strange reason, I seem determined to get a villain to 50 now (which is weird, because I've been a tad meh about it up till now).
Hopefully, I'll be able to carry on at lunchtime today. I'm meeting IBM later today, so I'll at least have a "facing the evil empire" mindset to work with

Pentium Chip Buttys?
If only - more along the lines of "use this system and pay us money. No it doesn't matter that MS Visio does all the same things and is far easier to use. Use ours. Pay us, pay us, pay us MORTAL..... (it gets scary around there)"

Hey Fist, give yourself the freedom to write bad fiction. That is the way around the block. Grimace, whimper, groan and moan but just write on. On December you can glance back and blush, and start fixing the text you have now just chugged out.
And realize how much juicy goodness there is in there. Well worth salvaging.
I just finished Chapter 4 and found out that the family name of Andre's grandfather wasn't Kraft at all as I had thought. He went and stole the name from a war criminal. Not that he was much better himself, mind you.
