The MoX Gumball Rally is underway!!

Already done that. We have a full list of rules n regs, we have been in corresspondence with Bridger on this, We've had 3 or 4 dummy runs to iron out any problems. This has been in planning for weeks, thats why we say look on the forum to see the full rules.

Of course we will do it OUR way, I'm sure if you were organising something you would do it YOUR way, so whats the difference, we have already taken advice from Bridger on this. Did you want us to show you our 'workings out' or present you with an event that has been well thought out, tested and reviewed to ensure it works. Give us some dues, we are no 2 bit gaming clan, we have organised stuff like this for years.

EDIT
.... and TBH the level of agression that has been shown here against MoX makes me think that maybe it's not worth it. This is obviously a forum dominated by 1AT. So in the politest possible way, if you don't want it or continue critising we'll pull it and run it internally.

Just one question, who is the leader of 1AT, I think I need to talk to him / her.

Well, for one, I'd make things completely transparent, and ask people for their opinions.
Then I'd ask for people to help if they want to.
Then I'd make a sign up sheet on the main board.
Then I'd not make baseless accusations. I'm not part of 1AT, and haven't had any real dealings with them. Neither is AFAIK, Rocky, darkshocker, Nefarious or Cap'n Morgan.

But the main thing I wouldn't do is start insulting people because they ask questions.

No it isn't, Silver Weasel isn't even in the 1AT for one thing and all anyone has done on this thread is voice their concerns, if you don't like that fine but don't call out the 1AT on anything they haven't done.

PM me for things you can call them on though as I have been making a list.

Also there is no one leader of the 1AT, there are a crapload of leaders for the 10 SG's that form it, so I would just pick one and go with it, I personally recommend Captain Morgan as he seems to be the only one not to have thrown a hissy fit over the past couple of weeks.

Err, the two people pointing out what we see as a bit of an issue, me and Silver Weasel are not part of 1 AT. They were just used as an example of other organisers who use these forums to organise events. Could have just as easily used the 3vP organisers.

Basically, in order to get people signing up, the best way for the community is on the community forums. Xanthus could have quite easily forced people to sign up for 3vP on his SG's forums, I could have got people to sign up for the recent Pentad tournament on my SG's forums and so on. I've never seen people required to register with another SG's forums to sign up for an event and it will discourage many casual players.

As for E-mail spam, plug in forums are hardly the most secure things on the internet and are a prime target for people wanting a list of spam E-mail addresses. You may not give them out but many people are careful of where they use their E-mail address, I personally try to put in on sites as little as possible, hence the dummy hotmail I used.

Yes, it is a MoX run event and you're entitled to do it your way, people were merely trying to point out the method most of your potential entrants would prefer. Hell, when I've organised events, an E-mail to me or a post on my SG's forums would have also been a lot easier for me but I chose the official forums to make it easy for the people entering. They're the ones who's benefit events are for and as the organiser, I expect to have to put all the leg work in.

Sorry for suggestion what I see as areas for improvement in your sign ups, I won't bother trying to help you in future and won't comment on this thread anymore. Can you remove my account from you forums please where I registered as Kinslayer.

Also, trying to organise any sort of community event IS hassle and you DO open yourself up to people questioning it as anyone who's done one can tell you. It's precisely for that reason I avoided doing more after the Pentad a while back

Correct... if it was possible to see the e-mail addresses, which it isn't (there are usually privacy settings in proper board solutions, such as ones enabling you to hide your e-mail address).

Go, go, gadget... paranoia!

I will not be attending this event. Thanks for the invite however.

Everyone is equal here. It just so happens there seem to be a handful that are more equal than others.

Its also publicity for the SG. Once your on their forums you could take a look around... see if you like the place, maybe join them.

This sounds like a fun event. However until I know when it is I am not going to sign up.

I just realised as it is on Union, in order to sign up I have to delete a character... oh dang it!

@Unthing ... Mostly on Union.

Devs! More character slots please!

It's more than likely gonna be either Wednesday 12th or 19th July. We are still checking availability of members to Marshall it whence the "unconfirmed date" bit. We'll update people as soon as we know for sure.

Maybe an advice to all of you who dont like to give their email adresses away, by signin up to a forum or emailing someone, to use a dodgeit account?

Sure, most boards got a "hide email" option, but most of times admins are still able to see those adresses. I understand viewpoints of people not willing to sign up to another SGs forum, whether it is because of giving their email or not. What I dont understand, is the amount of insults and sarcy comments how these concerns are replied upon. It seems that not willing to sign up to the MoX forums is contemplated upon as a personal attack to the SG.

I doubt everyone that posted their concerns here got the viewpoint that MoX is out to steal email adresses from persons. Its just that people voice why some people may be reluctant from joinin this event. Replying to this that it is an attack from the 1AT community is just a really, REALLY stupid thing to do as you are calling out another community for no apparant reason.

Personally, I think if you replied to the threads in a decent fashion it wouldnt have escalated like this. However most replies I seen got a "holier than thou" attitude, and call out people. Aint really the best PR action around is it? And as mentioned before, when organizing events for a whole community, its better to have 1 main spokesperson, sure others can add some stuff as well, but it shouldnt be 5 or 6 people repeating the same stuff over and over again. The reasons behind this are simple. First of all, people got 1 person to adress all their questions to, which will also make it easier for you guys on the organizing part. Second of all, which also struck me on this topic, is that with a whole group of people trying to 'clarify' stuff on this board, you as non-organizer can get a bit intimidated. Its a bit like "we outnumber you, SO we are right in every way!".

Right, im rantin a bit now.. I wont be showin up, not for reasons mentioned in this topic, but because I dont have free slots on union . Would like to wish everybody that is partakin in this event good luck and a fun time. This post is in no way meant to slack the event, but just a few lil pointers for if you (or anyone else) organize something for the global community again.

P.S. no I aint part of the 1AT community, the thought alone, brrr

"god, how many devs did hami have to sleep with to get ED?"

Thanks for your comments.
It also highlights the problem with forums...when I'm typing a comment I'm sort of mentally saying it to myself with all the intonations and expressions that I would have if I were saying it to someones face....I just never seem to be able to stop doing that so my comments seem aggressive at times even though the intonation and intent with which I wrote them was not in the least aggressive.
Kind of what's happened all round here I think.
That's forums for ya!

Posted

Quick Hint : "What the hell is your problem?" sounds aggressive whatever voice you use.

Posted

I suppose it does but in my head when I was typing it it was a sort of high pitched baffled 'what the hell'...then when you read it it was a gruff aggressive 'what the hell'.

I mentioned the 1 AT just to make an example of another comunity that organized public events, not saying they're better or else, because without me they're nothing...

I wasn't meant to be inflammatory in any way, sorry if it sounded so but I was just voicing my and maybe other's concern about the thing and pointing out how other that made similar thing handled that...

Also Pryo's post is a clear aggresion against English, leave the slaughter of your language to us outside of the UK
