Post I7 - PvP
I'd say RV isn't going to be that populated after all the badges are attained and the novelty of the new temp powers have worn off.
I mean... An SR stalker hitting Elude is going to be a pain in the butt
I think it'll increase briefly and then go back to about Sirens level, where the amount of guys in Sirens will decline.
Although, having said that, a lot of people seem more interested in PvP since the signature villains/heroes are going to be taking part.
It'll still be largely ponitless for tanks, no matter how many bells and whistles they add.

Got to say I cant see the PvP in this game getting good. Im in a PvP clan in RF at the mo and even they siad that PvP is pointless in this game and has no place. You cant have big fights as the client will just lag out on you you cant solo certian builds and some builds have no place in PvP what so ever. If you want PvP I would say get anothert game that dose PvP well rather than the half [removed] effort that this game offers up.
i'm not that much of a PvP fan but RV sounds awesome. Fighting for the control of pillboxes, which spawn helpers and eventually spawn states or recluse himself!!! And then there was the giant robo thingie u could get as a helper, it's sounds like a freakin awesome zone and i hope alot of people will be fighting there! I wanna see recluse and statesman fight!!
I'm personally hoping that the better/more serious PvPers will end up moving onto RV, I know I will be - as soon as I finish off levelling up enough toons to give myself hero and villain options in there. Then again, I go into WB as well.
I'm not going to hold my breath for an active RV until a couple of months has elapsed, if only because I doubt there'll be much in the way of "competition" - a boatload of level 50 heroes vs a handful of sub-50 villains can only be amusing for so long before it turns into weariness, then abject boredom... especially seeing as the main tactics for villains in PvP PuGs tend to run along the lines of "stalkers run around the map individually, AS indiscriminately, run away, hide in villain base for 30 mins afk, then ask 'whose bounty 4 heroes?!!??'". A crippling deficit of support characters doesn't help much either, but that's another discussion.
Personally, I'm not phased by level 32/38 powers - a good PvPer will always adapt and learn to deal with other powersets, and good PvP teams will do the same. Case in point, I was fighting a /Regen Stalker (and friends) in Warburg - I dropped him to 1/3rd health, he popped MoG, so I shouted over /team for the Mind/ troller to come finish him off... The biggest problem that people face in WB is that it's mostly a soloer's PvP zone at the moment - which means that you're less likely to be able to deal with "uber" 32/38 powers being thrown at you. If there were more teaming going on, those powers would be degrees less useful.
My only real reservations about RV is the fact that it's going to have more going on that just PvP. Hopefully, all the glitter will serve to add to the PvP (much like the bounty system in Sirens) instead of detracting from it.
Of course, if it ends up being a ghost town, I'll probably just end up watching Bilharzia trying to spawn and solo States.

Hmmmm..... now if I though I'd actually be useful, and maybe get a team with Wynter, I'd join in, although at the moment my interest is mainly the badges (stupid 5+ hours, whose idea was that!). Having said that, my time in WB mainly involves getting a scientist, getting him all the way to his lab, then being AS'd by a stalker, while the hero's kindly let me get my temp power....

Not much of an answer for those of us who perhaps weren't into PvP before, and wouldn't play a game purely for PvP, but really like playing our heroes and villains against other player-controlled ones.

I have no intention of leaving CoH/CoV anytime soon, especially for a pure PvP game, RF and GW are so shockingly poor for anything other than CS gamers that I'd rather cut off my right arm than play them again.
I guess what I want to know is, are the people who are in this game and participate in PvP as part of the game as a whole, going to be playing in RV a lot, if not why not - maybe we can provide a lot of feedback to the devs explaining if it isn't working.
I'm hoping that the new content in RV will pull in people who otherwise might not PvP. I'm also looking forward to PvPing with higher-level powers; I don't like Warburg very much, so I've barely PvPed using anything above level 30, and I think it should be quite fun. I know how often I find myself wishing I had various higher-level powers when I'm in Siren's.
I love warburg, only place i can do pvp missions without being disturbed , i hope RV will have lots of people in it, as i would quite like to fight people with B1G GIANT ROBUTS!!!111oneone

As opposed to PvP in RF, which is by all accounts Zerg-by-numbers (with potions).

One question, i know what GW is, but what is RF?
I really like PvP in CoH, can't wait for RV. I can see it being really interesting to begin with as people go in to have a look. Might die off for a few months while the villains are all busy levelling, but then it should be great
Once issue 7 hits (and once my spines scrapper is into the allowed level range) I'll be spending my PvP time split between Sirens and RV (I don't have an attack chain worth talking about in BB and Warburg is too unkind to my super speeder - well, unkinder than Sirens anyway).
Defiant 50s: Generalissimo, Righteous Bob, Splortch, Brutus Cayuga
Union 50's: Chimera Obscura, Diet Anthracite, Grim Proctologist, Puny Little Minion, Raging Bitumen
In Soviet Russia, mission farm you!
It sounds great, the biggest problem with the PvP zones at the moment is a lack of an actual game mechanic in the zone, but it seems now like there is a reasonably well developed one in RV. Siren's is the most successful because there are rewards to be won and it is heroes vs villains, I hope RV will build on this. A continuous reward system will keep people going back.
Biggest issue in PvP is toggle dropping - is this going to be looked at?
As soon as I've built up Domination Statesman will be toast. Why are we fighting over post boxes anyway? Don't they use email in "Teh Future"? What do the giant robots do? deliver mail? anyway, it looks great.

Ah, so now the blasters will be forced to toggle-drop me, the controllers & dominators forced to snap through my megre mez protection, the stalkers forced to AS me with unresistable damage (Not that I have any resistance to speak of) and anyone else generally forced to kite me until I'm dead.

Yes, it's been looked at, and reduced a little.

I think that is meant to be pill boxes:
[ QUOTE ]
Dug-in guard posts (with loopholes for firing through) and made from concrete are also known as "pillboxes". The originally jocular name arose from their perceived similarity to the cylindrical boxes in which medicinal pills were once sold.

Actually Dominators can toggle drop you as well, sorry.
As far as RV goes it will be Heroes Vs Villains, so tanks don't have to worry about blasters toggle dropping them (at least not yet), as far as I know only Stalkers and Dominators can toggle drop from the Villain side.
Having said that toggle dropping is in a very silly state and needs to be tweaked, there are several things I can think of that would both make it still possible and yet not overpowered; I suspect the reason nothing has been done yet is Cryptic want to get it right this time instead of screwing it up (again).
PvP in this game for me is a break not my primary aim. I dont think the PvP is that great to be honest. Its good fun as I said before but I cant ever conceive me doing it day in day out. Its better fun with firends and an SG but I know for a fact I would never go to the extent of making a PvP build toon like a few have.
So how will I7 change it? Well I do hope a nice high end PvP area will be a real winner. But as so many of you have said Sirens call always seems to be the favourite and you regular PvPers would know better than me. Id also have to say while some of my friends have been PvP converts and some to the extreme its an aspect of the game which doesnt seem to be taking off hugely.
I know as new players come they might like it. I even spoke to one player new to the game who was well up for it and good for him. But being new he could only qualify for Bloody Bay. And we cme back to that Sirens Call being populated more. It did seems to put him off a bit no one was there in BB much. Thought for bedtime maybe?

Well yeah, it's been great as I try to trudge through the last few bars of xp to 37 (and new SOs) on my Grav/FF. It's not so great when I actually want to PvP.

Thats mianly only at the chip wars but the piont is that you can pvp there any time if you want to. In CoX you go to the PvP zones and you can spend ages looking for some one to fight and trying to get a PvP team together is no fun either as most of the players in this game would rather play PvE. I do hope RV is good and it offers a challenge and people use it but Im not going to hold my breath on it.
How do you think I7 will affect the quality/quantity of PvP across the different zones?
At the moment Bloody Bay is pretty quiet apart from people wanting the temp power.
Sirens is the busiest, and at most peak times there's a good chance there is a little battle going on, but rarely ever more than an 8v8.
Warburg is very quiet, never seen an 8v8 or more going on, just people going for rocketman badge.
Which leads me to Recluse victory...Given the amount of 50s already on CoH will Villains be put off entering the zone until they themselves hit 50? Or will the zone be as quiet as warburg and people stick with Sirens?
A lot of people I've spoken too about Warburg have said that the lvl 32 and lvl 38 powers are too powerful in PvP and spoil the fun, so they stay in Sirens, will the same be true in RV?
What are your views?
