The Imperial Rifles
To be honest, I don't see why the Commander has to be a tank.
He would have trained in the scouts, been a regular marine, and worked his way through the ranks. He could pick whatever armour and weapons he wants. Generally, the commanders seem to have both a ranged and melee weapon (IIRC even Calgar has bolters attached to his power fists - a quick trip to Icon and a few secondary attacks and you've got power fists and a 'bolter').
So long as at lvl 6 they take Leadership, I'm not worried if they're blasters, scrappers or tanks.
I also think they should take Tough, their armour is the same but their bodies can take more punishment.
The same is applicable to Chaplains (though with different power choices), however I seem to be on a losing battle there.
We are back on the purple armour, I personally would rather stay a blaster but it was just a suggestion, anyway the reason for my post!
If you go through the temple we now have a library where the librarians can tell us all to "SHHHHHHHHH" pop on and have a look later!
Im in for Frosty do you want a Broadsword Lvl 8 or an Assault Rifle lvl 9 battle brother.

I'm gonna wait for abit before I continue/start levelling my rifles, to see what the new changes bring.
I do think that certain pools should be off limits for certain types. If anyone other then the scout takes recall freind and tp, the scout loses his purpose. Same goes for invisibility and grant invis. And seeing they are supposed to be alittle weaker then the normal grunt, there wouldn't be much left to enjoy playing.
A ill/kin librarian sounds really cool tho, like I said, I'm gonna wait and see .
Right here's my tuppence (note my own opinion, ymmv):
Techmarines: I think these are viable, and I was thinking that they would be good as bubblers or sonic defenders, as this seems the easiest set to align with a technological solution as they are a much more crisp defined visual effect that I can see as technological (hence field generators and sonic council). I think they would have to be technology origin
Chaplains: I agree that they need to be more "buff" oriented as they are inspiring the troops. I think kinetics goes well with this concept ("demoralising" enemy troops whilst "inspiring" the boys). Tanks are also a good choice, but they would need the leadership pool I think. Maces again are good crozius', especially if/when they implement customisation of weapons.
Apothacaries: If only AR was available as a defender secondary! I think this may be either an empathy defender or a AR/En with at least 3 healing power pool powers.
Librarians: I think Controllers with mind, illusion (playing with enemy's perceptions) or gravity control (telekinetics) and defenders with the psychic attack set. Other than this *shrug*.
I also think the presence power may be good for chaplains/commanders for those yummy fear powers (scaring the bejesus out of the cowering enemy!).
What do you think?

I believe that Scouts should have Concealment as their first pool, as their training is specifically for guerilla tactics (which changes once they earn their power armour).
IMHO TP Friend should be available to Apothecaries (not other TP powers) & Librarians (ALL TP Powers) for gathering the wounded out of harms way ready for healing, rather than for a Scout.

If a scout is AR/Dev (which I personally think fits the concept better - they have no power armour, so En secondary not appropriate, and they are into guerilla warfare which Dev seems perfect for), they should have cloaking device in their secondary so would not need to take concealment.

I agree that classes should be limited on powersets, personally I think a scout should be AR/Dev due tot he inherrant tactical nature that scouts recieve in the actual game, stealth etc, TP friend should also be part of what they do, but Terminators can be given the ability to TP short distances, therefore a Terminator should only have tp foe and tp self. It is tempting to change a lot of stuff after all this discussion but people have already put hours in to their toons and I don't want people to loose enthusiasm because all of a sudden they can't be what they thought they were, if the Broadsword is a Powersword then is the katana a chainsword? If this is the case then BS/xxx are squad sergeant types and katana is a Apoc type or an assault marine (looking at what different classes are allowed to be equiped with)
Scouts can be equipped with a normal bloter, a flame thrower or a sniper rifle they are not intended for melee...
As stated I DO NOT WANT people to have to have a cookie cutter build, yes it is about concept but it is also about fun and surviving in the CoX universe, we have limits on the powersets for people already which can make a team work, do we really want to be so anal that we loose enjoyment from having to limit the already limited powersets we can have.... I'm just grumpy I can't have a dreadnaught, how fun would it be to look like a hercules titan!
Ooo Ooo one more thought.
Most of the Chapters have at least one group of non-standard troop types, such as the Blood Angel "Death Company" and the Space Wolf "Grey Hunters". Maybe we could have a limited number of "themed" special troops. I personally vote for "pyrokinetics" (fire starters), basically permitting a character with both fire primaries and secondaries (blaster, tank & controller). I feel the napalm element would nicely compliment the AR madness. But again, numbers would have to be seriously limited to prevent diluting the main theme of the group.

doulos stay as a blaster.
This over discusion of a great concept is starting to put me off a little bit. Things are fine as they are. Don't ruin a great idea by getting bogged down in the tiny details.

awwww shucks, are you only saying that cause I don't know how to do anything else?
Discussion closed, we have what we have, lets stick with it, it works, the teams are fun...
im saying that because the huge model set to slim with gold trimmed marine armor carrying an assault rifle in that hunched over way the huge model has of running looks bloody magnificent.
besides, the fact that you are squishy just means I have to work harder to protect my commander, hence getting provoke.
edit - can you publish the list of allowed builds with their armor colours and the costume choices in the first post? or maybe just an update post after this one

Agreed. Was going the same ways as Mr C in thinking this good, fun idea you had was beginning to not feel fun anymore. As I've said before if everyone starts to try and argue that this set is allowed because of this and this set is allowed because of that, we'll have that many allowed power set combinations we'll just be like any other SG. Yes it may be a challange at time but alot of us are experianced players and the challange will be good. I for one was really pleased when the team of AR blasters and 1 controller completed frostfire with only 1 faceplant. I mean how many times have you been in a lowbie PuG that has ended with multiple teams wipes? Sticking to the basic brothers, chaplains, terminators and apodoodah classes I'd say is the best way to go. Then occasionally you can offer people chances to create a unique build as you have done with the storm/elec defender.
We should have faith in common sence...

Guys I'm moving house on Monday, packing PC on Sunday night. Won't be back online for roughly 10 days though, so keep fighting those pesky Warp beasties till I return!
Tufty is spot on, our assault on Frostie was an outstanding display of team work and most of all, for me anyway, it was fun! I've enjoyed the AR/En so far to lvl 11, long may it continue.....For The Emperor!!!!
Just a few thoughts on the empaths for the Rifles:
If a Chapter of Space Marines did find themselves trapped in Paragon, surely they would take advantage of things such as healing powers and any other power for that matter to give them even more of an advantage over the enemy.
Speaking of enemies, one last suggestion, we should all vote on which faction/group are our most hated enemy, for instance: Crey, as they actively work with genetics, could be classed as heretics, we could even believe that they are attempting to obtain a sample of the Emperors gene from one of our fallen Brothers. Could be a cool idea for one of D's great stories.
I thought maybe much later, Carnivale as they could be mistaken for Eldar Harlequin? Or any of the zombie-like enemies could represent NUrgle.
Lol well we've alrady shaped the WH universe in the war log by trolls and supedine being far distant cousins of the ork...
How about this, the emperor eventually comes about as a result of the crey experimentation that they took from an Imperial Rifle who they captured, who was only there cause he was sucked back in time through a dimesnisional portal whilst fighting for the emperor. (Terminator series syndrome)
The CoT are surely the precussors of chaos (not the marine kind, but if you merge them with Rikti...) the Malta go on to develop the technology that is used in the Dreadnaughts and (for those who remember them) the titans...
other races are aliens (eldar and tyrannids etc) so we don;t need to worry about them... unless the Eldar appear in CoV
Or the Emperor was the future son of Statesman
do the rikti fit anywhere in the 40k canon?
also, update the first post or post a definitive description of allowed ats/powersets and instructions for the costume and colours
The Rikti could be a new breed of the Genestealers
tyranids could be an evolved version of the rikti, who were sent into space somehow?
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.

The competition will be in a couple of weeks if anyone wants to go for it, the colours will be BLACK ARMOUR with Purple Details, normal Marine size, no helmet. The competion will be based on builds PM'ed to em and discussed by me and a couple of other judges, the build we like the most will get to have this unique Character in the SG and we will help you level to get him usable in teams ASAP.
If you're interested get thinking now about how to make a PROPER champion
I'm running Frostfire tonight to level some of the newer SG brothers. I will need 3 mentors of level 12 ish and 4 level 7-9 SG members. The mission starts tonight at 5pm so give me a call then. The mission should be roughly lvl 12 ish.
