Kill stuffÂ…

In order to get a chance for a purple drop, you must defeat foes that have a chance of dropping level 50 recipes. I think the common opinion is that the chance of purple drops is like 1 to 2000.

So in order to optimize, you should fight level 47.

Farming is probably your best bet, especially come next issue if you have a good build. If you don't get any purples, at least you'll get plenty of other stuff.

Best way to get purple recipes: Kill stuff. Kill a lot of stuff. Then go kill more stuff. When you're finished killing those things, go find even MORE stuff, and kill them too.

While killing the stuff, play the market to make millions and billions of inf to buy some on the side.

You'll probably get enough purple drops (or other stuff to convert to purple drops) ages before you get Leader.

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

I agree, Getting my main "purpled" out was a long process. Really cool once I did it, but easily over 1 billion inf to get that build rocking.

Good things take time, you dont NEED purples. They are "end game stretch goal" type things.

As mentioned, they're the best things in the game and you're competing in the market with 100,000 other accounts.

But "200 million apiece" is kind of an exaggeration... MOST of the purple sets are things like sleep, immobilize, etc. and they tend to go for 10-30 million each. Only the ones you really, really want are 200 million apiece and even then, I could get them for 160-180 [and craft, and sell for up to 250] when I was trying to burn inf in market fees.

Do you want the highest end gear because it's the highest end gear, or do you have some specific plan for it [PVP, solo archvillains, etc.] ?

You'll never get a full set to drop yourself. If you want sets, you're gonna have to use the market.

But selling your drops on the market to get the money to buy the things you want is very reasonable... it takes time, but it *IS* time spent playing a game, afterall.

"Playing" the market (often refered to as marketeering) is a much faster way to earn money, and there's lots of advice about doing that in the market forum.

I disagree with this statement, I've gotten all my purple sets from drops. The drops may not have occurred on the particular character that needed it, but I have 4 50's that have multiple purple sets slotted all from drops. I refuse to pay out the amounts people want on WW/BM.

So my advice, stay out of AE, no purples there. Solo or stick to small efficient teams. Be patient, you are not going to get them in a week (unless you are buying them). I tend to play 3-4 hours a day and average a purple a day when playing my 50's. If you have a character that can handle large spawns, hit the wall in cimerora or fight rikti in the RWZ.

Thanks, NC Soft, for closing my favorite game ever without warning and with plenty of life still left in it, and thus relieving me of the burden of EVER wanting to buy, try or even hear about another game from your company. Will my decision make a dent, or persuade them in anyway, shape or form? Nope, obviously not. Don't care. NC Soft is dead to me. ~ PsyFox

Play the game. You will get them at the rate that the game intends to give them to you.
They are "ultra rares" after all.

Purples offer a boost over regular enhancements, but not that much of a boost that you really need it for a toon. A well-specced toon with regular IO sets is still a powerhouse. I recommend to just not focus on them so intently. Play your character, get him slotted well with IOs and their bonuses, and relegate purples to being a long-term goal that you work at gradually. My blaster only has a few purple sets. As time progresses, I add more when I could. It'd go faster if I continually played him, but I switch around characters. He's well-slotted and was a joy to play even before I slotted that first purple recipe. Any more that I add to him is just icing.
