Lag
Well there is Network Maintenance tomorrow morning so maybe this will get smoothed out.
I know that the entire group that I team with regularly has been having this issue for the past two issues. Before that coX was pretty smooth. Now it is a laggy pit of despair when in an ITF. I know that the ITF is laggy any way especially in Lag Vally, but it used to not be quite this bad. During the Rikti raids last weekend it was horrid. rubberbanding and bouncing all over the maps.

Houtex, frankly, I think singling out my post to write this was uncalled for. I'm not claiming this is NCSoft's fault, I'm not asking them to fix this, I've never said I had an über computer, hell I admit I don't know much about computers and have done so multiple times.
I'm just saying, we've got different people with different ISPs having the exact same problem on NCSoft servers located in different geographical locations, and those same people never experience any trouble on any other website, videogame or anywhere on the internet (unless, of course, it's a problem affecting the whole servers). I'm not talking about WoW or BBC.co.uk only, everything else works flawlessly.
When I'm talking about european players I didn't just ask two or three guys either, I'm talking about twelve players with five different ISPs having the same problem - all living in France with french ISPs, though.
I find this weird, that's all.
These are the facts - granted, I'm not providing proof, and if you don't want to believe it you can call me a liar ; but please don't make me look like some whiny dude ranting because his alienware PC doesn't run the game. That's really not what the topic was about.

Um... Well... Ya see... Er... Uh, allright... I think I'm just gonna go with "Ok."
All I did was indicate that after I read your post, I *thought about the others with similar issues*, and how it relates to me and others not having them, and then posted a theory about why all these spread out instances of...
You know what? Forget it. Not worth the time. I've typed too much as it is, but will post it so you get the idea. It's not about YOU, it's about the game and the community. Sounds like you are embarrassed or something. Well now you ought to be, I'd guess. Way to go.
/sheesh, crap like this makes me wanna go on 'vacation' again... what the frak do I frellin' gotta do to not get stomped on like this for tryin' to help out?!

Yep have had this same issue for the past 3 weeks or so. I'm on victory server. Prior to that, never even saw a red spike on my netgraph. Now I have nearly unplayable levels of redspikes. West coast servers still run like a dream for me... of course, thats not where I have my characters :P I'm in Virginia... so the East coast ones should be just great for me. My tracerts to coh servers are great, up until the point where whatever machine refuses pings. So nothing I can see to trouble shoot. I've put in a ticket today, as my frustration at this happening again right at double exp weekend is quite high grrrrr.
Gee, I'd have put in a ticket a week or two ago, especially knowing that a Double XP Weekend was coming up. Give a bit of time for people to try to find and resolve a problem. But then again, I'm rather peculiar like that.
And I hope you've also contacted your ISP to get them on board with the troubleshooting process and helping resolve the problems. Sometimes the weight an ISP can throw at people with problematic hardware is enough to get things fixed.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

A week ago it was working fine (well, fine enough. red spike every minute or more... so playable). Today it started up again with force. Just in time argh. Haven't contacted the ISP yet... usually a waste of time as in the past they "don't support" games or some such nonsense, and the problem sorts itself out in the month or more it would take to get them in action.

Well, I've been having the issue for about three weeks. I need to snag that Ping Plotter and see what's going on, because this isn't going away and it's making the game very hard to play.

Zloth, please start your own thread so that we don't get confused as to whose information we are looking at.
Also, I'd recommend starting with Zloth's ++ Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines ++ thread that is stickied in this forum.
Secondly, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.
Thirdly, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.
Oh my, did I do that?

Judging by the reports I've read on the forums and my own experiences, my educated guess is that one of the backbone links upstream from the CoX network is degraded and/or saturated - that is, either faulty, under attack or fully-utilized. It's difficult to troubleshoot from one end of the connection because IP traffic doesn't necessarily follow the same route back and forth. Also, I can't ping or traceroute because one of the routers in the path seems to be discarding ICMP traffic (which is common for a saturated connection or one that's been protected from a denial of service attack).
Bear in mind that IP traffic doesn't necessarily follow the geographically shortest route (unless you're using RFC 1149 or 2549 ). So it is possible for traffic originating in Florida to go to Virginia by way of Chicago, for example. It depends on the backbone connections and traffic shaping employed by each provider and the intermediate backbone networks.
Just for the record, my background is 20 years experience with TCP/IP networks, 10 years professional experience in national-scale NOC environments including WAN troubleshooting. So yes, my educated guess is pretty darned educated.
I'd just like to point out that there has been explained a reason for the European server lag.
Basically it's also the reason why most people in the British Isles tend to get a better connection to the US servers than they do the EU.
German Internet Infrastructure is, to put it bluntly, poor quality, the traffic has to go through so many different companies areas, jump through so many hoops, that it's force to take a while to reach the server farm in Germany.
Atleast that is what we have been told in the past.
From what I was told a few years back when doing Tech Support for European customers of a hardware manufacturer, this sounds right. We had a couple of support people that we turned to for help in Germany and would occaisionally have long delays in responses since it was taking forever and a day for our emails or IM's to get to them.
I got to the point I missed seeing "sorry, just got the email 5 hours late" on replies when they closed down our European Support line. Of course, I missed my 4 on 4 off, 3 on 3 off schedule of 12 hour overnight shifts even more. Made it much easier to take trips from Colorado to Texas to see family without burning too many vacation days when I worked that schedule.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Count me among those who are having an issue, mostly on Victory. I'll try one of the west coast servers and see if there's a performance difference.
Okay, played a bit on Champion, and there was indeed an easily perceptible improvement in overall performance. I didn't have the issues with dropped frames, power activation delays, and other annoying issues like I've had to deal with on Victory for the past week or so.
Odd. Odd and very annoying.
Yeah i been getting hard lag for about 4-5 days and i live in WV. Its not FPS lag more like everthing but my toon is lagging. My net and everthing else work fine also im not useing a router so thats not it ether.Like if i play on freedom it real bad but if i play on guardian there is some little lag but no where near as bad. So it must be the severs.
My netgraph for Freedum looks identical to Nihilii's,
My netrgraph on Virtue has not a single red spike, though the ping remains in the high 200's.
*I tested Freedom in Ouroboros, and PI, where there was less than 5 people on the map and in a solo AE mission.
In fact looking at Nihilii's OP again everything is identical. East server Freedom is crapped out and west server Virtue is smooth netgraph. Tons of powers skip animations and mobs phantom teleport and I rubberband on Freedom. Much less so on Virtue.
Count me among those having problems with the East coast but not the west. Play almost exclusivly on victory but have a toon or two on virtue that I was able to test it with. Geographically I'm pretty much dead center in states.

Count me amoung the numbers of people having problems and netgraph red spikes on East coast servers but not West.
I thought this was a problem with my local computer and spent last week trying to figure it out. Updated my video and sound card drivers on the 2x weekend.

Count me in also. I have noticed this problem for the past couple of weeks myself. I play solely on Infinity and it is never like this. Just ran /netgraph and it is pathetic. There are defintely some network issues somewhere and I know it is not me. I originally thought it was because of 2x weekend, but it persisted way after it.

I am also among those experiencing packet loss. I play on Liberty, have for well over 4 years now, and am now suddenly experiencing major packet loss. I did a little experiment, and hopped over to Champion server for a few hours, and only got a single red spike under /netgraph once during that entire time. I switched back over to Liberty and just after logging in, sitting idle in PI (quite the non-busy zone now-a-days), I am getting 1 red spike under /netgraph nearly every 5 seconds.
I really used to enjoy playing this game, but now I hardly stay logged in because it just doesn't look cool to see all the side effects of the packet loss (failed animations, jittery characters moving on screen, endless power cycling icons, etc).

I know I can play on other servers but its not the same as playing your favorite characters. Or playing with your RL friends. But playing when its this bad is no fun. Going to another server just doesn't cut it.

Exactly I have had to move to Champion which bites because all my work, Extra slots and INF stockpile are on Infinity. Along with all my RL friends and a decent VG. If they cannot clean this up in the next couple weeks I will put my account on hold till they can clean it up.

I'm experiencing the same problems on Infinity, but mine just started today. It got so bad, I thought I was at an olden day Hami Raid. This was on a 2 man team doing AE missions and moving around in both Cap and St. Martial.
This is ridiculous. I took a few months off for this very reason. I have been away for a whole 4 months and they still haven't bothered to upgrade the servers. Constant map serves, rubberbanding and power delays. It's unplayable. This **** has been present for several issues now.
How about giving us free server moves to less populated servers then?
Other MMO's have done it, i don't see why you can't do it too.
All i know is that i wasted $16. This will be my last month "playing" this game unless this is resolved.
FYI, it is not confined to East Coast servers. A lot of people that I play with regularly on Protector (West Coast) have been seeing the same issue.
