I wonder
I understand your post but I wanted to note there was some new content released in Issue 15; a task force and strike force.
I don't care to bicker about how well they are written, blahblahblah, but that is content and is a valid counter-point.
While I can't help but admire the irony of AC defending the devs' decision to not advance the story, I have to agree with them. With Power Customisation and all the proliferation, I imagine they've been too busy to create anything new and exciting.
Doom.
Yep.
This is really doom.
Not so sure.
Some issues are 'mechanic/system heavy' while others are not. Issue 15 gave us two TFs with some story, 16 is more about the mechanics. I expect Going Rogue will have a metric ton of story, arcs and systems as well.
While I have no doubt the Devs are enjoying players writing arcs, they aren't under any illusion that a large section of the playerbase enjoys canon stuff.

Yes, but it was a pretty minor amount of content. It's been a pretty long time since we got significant story advancement.
Mind you, I do appreciate that there is good MA content out there. I play a fair amount of it. I just am left wondering about dev story content at this point.
Too many alts to list.
I would be surprised if we see any significant story content before Going Rogue. Likely most of their story talent is fully engaged in that.

While I don't expect it will be on the level of CoV, I agree with this statement.

Yeah, I think MA allows them the freedom to do "mechanical type stuff" and let the writing portion of the staff work on the new expansion without having to worry about stuff to cram in for the near future, give or take a four mission TF/SF here and there.

I guess I've just been seeing more mechanic stuff lately, though it could just be perception.
There's been nothing even close to the level of story addition of i10 since i10.
I'll go down each on with my views:
i11 - some nice mechanical stuff, and there are the Ouroboros arc and TFs, and much story stuff was hinted at. We've seen nothing since then which advances the story from the hints.
i12 - ITF, and a new zone. Also a story arc to get you into the zone. Hard to say how much any of this issue really advanced the story though, at least the one hinted at in i11.
i13- mostly mechanical things. There were a couple story arcs both sides, but they all seemed to be throwaway rather than big plot movers.
i14- all architect, all the time.
i15- a TF and SF which make for a very small story advancement.
i16 -yet to see anything about the story.

Given that the GR devs will have access to the tools created for MA, I won't be surprised if it IS on par with CoV for mission content.
It must be vastly less labor intensive than messing around with spreadsheets.

I would hope that since it is a paid expansion, that it is completely on level with CoV.
Yes CoV was advertised as a stand alone game and has quite a bit in there. I do believe that everyone has always felt that CoV was just an expansion and today, Paragon doesn't even treat it like that
I would be seriously disappointed if Rogue is simply story lines such as we had for the Khelds and Veats.
That type of story is not befitting what Paragon Studios can produce for a paid expansion.
To me, two new power types, side switching mechanics, etc and Khelds/Veats degree of stories does not a expansion make.
I think we will be pleased with the stories that come out of Rogue from Paragon.

I'm expecting no more than one Praetorian zone with which you can begin new characters. At level 10 or so, you will be forced to dive out into the "real" world as a hero or a villain or as a neutral.
However, if I'm completely wrong and they give us the ability to level from 1 to 50 in Praetoria, well rock on. I'll be happy to be wrong. But I'm certainly not placing any bets on that.
Be well, people of CoH.
Bill,
Even by that description, wouldn't they provide content to 50 as a neutral?
If they do push you out at 10 (as your example), then there are no 'neutral' story lines out there.
That is to say, no story lines expressly for a neutral person.

I think you would have to be correct. The whole alignment thing does hint a quite the huge overhaul of the contact system, doesn't it? That's probably been asked in the huge GR threads. I haven't had time to hit them yet.

This. MA grew out of the overhaul of the devs' own mission creation tools. While we got a scaled down version, presumably theirs are much more powerful and just as intuitive, so I would expect that this would make content creation a much more common thing going forward for both GR and in the future.
I'm expecting GR to have at least
<ul type="square">[*]4 new Praetorian zones and a FFA zone (like Warburg) [*]10 new factions (Paetorianized versions of current factions with some having changes so major, it won't be a simple reskinning) [*]10 Preatorian-only arcs [*]4 side switching arcs [*]4 Task Forces[*]a Raid.[/list]
But what do I know?

I think GR will be on the level of Issue 6 in terms of content. 7+ new zones and story arcs to go along with em. The past, we've only gotten a dribble of new content. I want to see metric boatload of new content.

well buzz, i have been a little surprised with the lack of story as well, but honestly, given the amount of mechanical additions, im not overly surprised. AE and power customization are big things, and given that they may have taken up most of the time of staffers usually used to generate parts of contnet, as well as having people creating content for the big expansion, its not entirely surprising. Using issue 10 as a benchmark may be setting the bar a bit high, that was one of the msot content heavy releases we have had, compared to faultline, croatoa, heck, even the hollows, and it introduced no real new mechanics, Other than cross faction teaming, and we kind of had that with the v-day mishes) so i really wouldnt expect something like that for a while.

Well Positron said here that Praetoria consists of several new zones. Depending on what is in them that's as large as CoV was when it launched.

You may want to see it, but I doubt you will see it.
I am expecting not more than one new zone, if that. We will be lucky to get even one. I would even be happy just to see stuff added to unused present zones, but I doubt we will be getting that either.
I am guessing: 1. One new zone 2. a few costume pieces and 3. the ability to change sides, and I would bet more than a dollar that we don't see much else.
With all the hoopla about the cool stuff coming in i16, I have to note that it says nothing whatsoever about anything in the way of new story.
Is it possible that the Devs see MA as a way of being able to sit back some on content creation themselves? We all know those quotes about how much MA stuff came out so fast. Could that be seen by them as some form of justification for allocating resources to other requests than new storyline things?
I mean if you can give people lots of cool stuff they have been asking for, while players are already writing plenty of stories, isn't this rather a nice situation for them to be in vis a vis resource allocation?
