What is enjoyable about the Rikti Invasion?
Badges and Accolade which gives a nice power, for one reason.

A bunch of heroes/villains standing in a spot, mashing buttons basically? I just don't get it.
[/ QUOTE ]That's a third of the game right there.

And for a few with the right powersets, really cool weapons for their costumes.

"When Chuck Norris can't go on, Petra Majdič perseveres!"
Fair enough. I just never understood it, but I suppose those are decent enough reasons. It just seems so random and unfulfilling.

The intensity of a fight.
The sudden need to team.
The teams with complete strangers suddenly saying, "hey it's in Galaxy, let's head there now!" and going with it.
In other words, it's a way to shake up the game enough and put some people in teams together who'd never have even thought of it before. it feels heroic to me, gathering around the "big spots" in zones, with 30-50 other heroes (or villains) to defend our city from the Rikti invading forces.
I love it.

ok i just signed on for the first time this weekend and i dont get it, where is this ratiki invasion? how do we join in the fight?
I get to smash on them outside of my regular LGTF runs >_>
Well maybe I AM slightly sick of them. Doing 10 LGTFs in the course of 5 days can get old >.>
is this invasion even going on anymore? i thought it was supposed to be all weekend long....i'm in atlas park right now, asking people about the invasion, and everyone like "i dont know"

Wiki info on Rikti Invasion
Basically, zones will (at intervals) be subjected to an "invasion" by Rikti ground troops and heavy assault "suits" or ships.
Heroes will form teams (any level welcome) and gather in a central location, often by the train station or Hero/Trainer.
There's a period before the ground troops arrive when you can run around and try to destroy some big unexploded bombs dropped by assault ships.
Then the ground troops arrive and everyone stands in a big muddle and pounds on 'em until they give up and go away.
Check you Communications Tabs (usually under Global) to make sure you have Hero Event Zone Message listed. If not, add it, if it is there, do normal stuff and wait for a message to post about a Rikti Invasion in "zone name". Rush to zone and advertise for team, defeat bombs and then defeat teleporting Rikti!
Think of it as our version of Marvel Secret Invasion, battling the alien invader standing next to someone you may have never teamed with.

From the wiki: "Rikti invasions will occur about every 3 hours."
Check your chat tabs, one of them should have the Hero/Villain Zone Event Messages on it. Every now and then it'll say something like:
[Vanguard] WARNING: Rikti ships have been detected heading for Founders' Falls.
If you don't see anything like this, pick a tab, right click on it and select Edit Tab. Click on the Event channel and add it to the tab. Or even better, create a new tab with just the Event channel on it.
When you see a message pop up on it, go to that zone and start fighting rikti.

I find the actual invasions very laggy on my old machine.
I enjoy playing through them for the shineys, but I find the process not that great.
If I happen to have the desktop in the house and find one going on, then it is much more fun as there is minimal lag.
@Catwhoorg "Rule of Three - Finale" Arc# 1984
@Mr Falkland Islands"A Nation Goes Rogue" Arc# 2369 "Toasters and Pop Tarts" Arc#116617
They're a good way to work on your "damage taken" badges, because there's no debt in zones under invasion, and the Rikti dropships really dish it out.

I fight Rikti-lag by standing toward the outer "ring" of the muddle, FACING OUT.
You can still target and attack Rikti, but mostly you're picking them off as they 'port in, or as they are running back toward the muddle after being hit by KB.
Facing out, while standing on the edge of the fight, greatly cuts down on gfx lag, for me.

I'd like to say "the reward", but neither the XP, Inf, or Vanguard Merits accumulate at a reasonably rewarding rate during the event (much like fighting any given giant monster).

Honestly? I'm kinda "over" them myself.
I won't run away from one but won't seek one out, either.
They're kinda exciting the first 4 or 5 times, then - meh.
I found another trick to fight lag last night while battling a Rikti Raid in Talos. I zoomed my view all the way out and my lag reduced tremendously and I got to see the fight that everyone was doing at the time, not just my little corner of the light show.
About an hour later, a Zombie Raid hit Talos, so I tried it again and I was amazed at how much better my game was during the Raid.

I'll have to give that a shot. The lag in the two I ended up in was almost as bad as the end of the CoV beta when we got to dogpile the Devatars.

I made a character yesterday at lunch who was an alternate version of my original main, only on this server he had been captured by the Lost early in his hero career and <OMEGA LEVEL CLEARANCE DENIED>, and was later rescued by another hero. He's now level 15 from the crazy XP that rolls from invasions and has the weapon his concept needs - the same sword that the Lost use.
What's so enjoyable? My boyfriend and I primarily duo, and he doesn't like to team up with others . This is my chance to team up with different people, which I really enjoy He's been alseep for a little bit, and in that time I had two different Rikti team. Definitely win/win
I personally really enjoy them, especially when you have right at about 2 groups. With that many, it's a challenge to fight all the Rikti that come in without being a slideshow.

The XP in these things never seems to be all that great to me. My level 14 character got 1.5 to 2 bars from one today (well, technically yestreday now). And in that time could've done a mission solo for more XP.
