I can remember when filling was a good thing, simply because it was a small group of 50's paying lowbies in Atlas Park to fill, usually for 1 million per-mission or per-hour.

Just street hunt for a while, the payer would zip by Atlas and drop a couple million Inf in your lap, then they'd leave.

It hasn't been that way in a long long time.

I agree that this feature will benefit those who prefer a small team or none, but there is no corresponding feature to aid those who may want to form larger teams.

To be specific, there have been many suggestions for the team search window to show groups looking for members, to indicate the team leader, to remove truncation from the player list, to allow more control over level range searches and not to display teams in TF mode.

Don't get me wrong, the "team size" selector is a good thing, but I'm hoping it's the first of many improvements to the search function.

but people who just wanna be in their own insomniac bubble can do it, without spammin your chat channels.

I think this is a great feature. I imagine it would cut down on farming a lot. You can now solo something and have spawns for 8 ppl, as presented early. I also agree that most people who are farming wouldnt be talking to you if they didnt need people for the spawn rate. Now it sorta cuts those people out of Broadcast, out of our faces, and leaves the groupers to group together. I like it.

I never said big teams couldn't play as always or that I thought the team scaling option was a bad idea. In fact, I think it's great.

Again, for the giddy folks, I would like to see better options for finding players added to the search window. Team search could use additional improvements in its functionality.

Seriously, though, to the best of my knowledge we won't be changing minimum sizes of TF's/SF's. The minimum sizes stand as "warning labels" to newer players that these missions are more difficult/time consuming/whatever than other missions. It's a small, but important function.

EDIT: By the way, in the meeting where this feature was proposed I specifically mentioned that "Perfect Pain is going to love this change." Glad to see, at least on first glance, I was right!

The team scalar will make it easier to add artificial teammates, but there's no parallel improvement to team search to make it easier to add real ones (yet).

The upcoming team scalar doesn't encourage people to team less, but there has been nothing added that encourages them to team more or makes it easier to do so.

Here's hoping this is the first of several improvements to team search

It doesn't discourage teaming. If you set it too high, you'll still get your [censored] kicked. People don't team to fight more enemies, they team to fight as a group. With multiple people you get better XP (because everything falls faster). If they just want more enemies then they ask for fills... which they won't need to now.

I like this feature, but I agree w/the OP - it does work against teaming. The function he was refering to that was removed was the 'x man team = x spawn map'. That was the only way to get it w/out teaming (or padding). It can be said that it actually encouraged teaming. A 7 man team looked for an 8th perhaps just for the increased diff/xp/inf/prestige. And now they dont have to bother looking if they just increase it w/this new feature.

Its not doom, but the OP is not wrong.

[/ QUOTE ] The OP may not be wrong, but if that is indeed the case I don't think it's a bad thing. Solely for the fact that it will give players more options on how to customize their experience playing. Which is a good thing.

Sure. I agree, but certainly not all will. Its basically giving players more options on how to customize their experience playing, at the possible expense of not being able to find a team. Depends on what is more important to you.

People who want to team cos it's fun will still team.

Good this means the farms don't have to collect a team of sidekicks to farm. They can do it solo. It will reduce the farming actually as a lot of "farmers" will run solo to maximize what they get.

Honestly? Great idea on multiple levels.

I was originally opposed to it. But after the whole Rikti Farms/Bubble Farms fiasco...

A Single player finds an exploit. He knows that if he spreads word of it, the Devs will shut it down. So instead of filling teams with noobs to farm the exploit, he instead solos it on an "8-man" team.

Noone else finds out about it. It doesn't hit broadcast, and the Exploit doesn't spill out into the general populace for the super-leveling BS we'd been seeing before.

Then the Devs datamine the people that use the feature almost exclusively and solo, play through their MA missions looking for exploits, and if they find them CLICK! Locked mission and nerfed character.

Awesome.

I really want someone to use the invite back program- www.cityofheroes.com/community/referral_program/invite_a_friend_back.html - to get me back into the game after not playing for a couple years. My email is absolutezerr@gmail.com, can someone send me an invite? I made my own topic for it but nothing is happening, and its REALLY FRUSTRATING. WHY DON'T YOU WANT 15 DAYS OF FREE TIME?

On a slightly related note, I am playing the trial version of the game again to see if playing again is worth it and IT IS but the lack of global/broadcast chat kind of skews (for the worse) what perception people will get of the game, don't you all agree? If you can't bop out a "lvl 3 blaster lft" you are at a bit of a disadvantage!
An invite would be sweet.

My own reaction is caution when a total stranger is begging for someone, ANYONE, to use an "Invite a Friend" program to get them back into the game. I immediately wonder why the 15 days is so important, why they don't just reactivate their old account, or if "Invite a Friend" somehow allows them to evade some kind of ban or something.

On top of that, the topic you created no longer exists, and that's a STRONG indicator of a problem with the idea.

So my advice is forget the free days, reactivate your account, and enjoy the many changes since you left.

Every day you wait is another day you're not playing the full game.

I don't team for bigger spawns and more difficult enemies. I team because I like playing with people. When I feel like soloing, it isn't because I want smaller spawns and easier enemies. I solo when I don't feel like playing with other people.

My preference for spawn size and enemy difficulty is not related to my preference for teaming or soloing. Making the difficulty slider more flexible isn't going to affect my teaming habits at all, but it will make the time I spend solo more enjoyable. I doubt I'm the only one who thinks this way.

What I'd like to see next is the ability for a team of a given size ( or a soloist) to spawn groups smaller than what they might get on heroic, but of a much higher level and or rank.

My biggest issue with the setting is, now instead of just teaming with idiots who insist on running challenge level 5, they'll also have everything else cranked to max to get the uber expeez. You know, the same people that don't understand why everyone doesn't love running suicide missions.
