This is confusing...
It's a story.
AND Statesman is a Hero, while this new character is an Arch-Villain.
You're talking about how it's hard to take down an AV, but when two AV's take on each other...
QR Honestly I think it would make a great addition to the game as some kind of GM somewhere if it's so epic a demon.
It's a story. The characers are are powerful (or weak) as the writer requires them to be in order to tell the story. Character s in teh game can experience that as well. It's the AV->EB downgrading. You can face the Villain as a team and fight him as an Archvillain. Or face him solo or small team and face the villain as can Elite Boss. You are the writer, you choose how strong or week the Villain is.
<QR>
In addition to the "it's a story" bit, there are characters that can solo AVs with just SOs and no inspirations.
For instance, my Thugs/Traps. Which is a better story, that Statesman was nearly killed by demons, or a bunch of punks with machine guns and a few poison traps and acid mortars?
it has gone from unconscionable to downright appalling that we have no way of measuring our characters' wetness.

Why on earth would you assume that a story would be bound by the game mechanics....? You're one of those people that likes to pick apart Star Trek movies and explain how every little thing isn't possible, aren't you?

RED CAP DAGGERS: if you want them red side on infinity, send a pm i have the mission to get them for dual blades.
As mentioned, it's a story.
Plus, really, it's not *her* that's plysically strong enough to do so - it's the demon she controls. Very common to have someone in books and such summon demons *far* more powerful than themselves and either (a) bind them but have to keep some sort of concentration to maintain control, (b) give something of themselves, or (c) have the demon just "play along" to cause havoc, then turn around and make its "master" into an hors d'oeuvre.

Exactly. Her power is mostly her demon summoning; even her ability to 'fly' is due to riding her demon! (Man, I wish that was a nice new travel power!)

...They wouldn't get anywhere for a long time.
AVs don't do much damage relative to their toughness.
I had a moment there where I was like "It would be cool if you took damage from helicopter rotor blades."
... followed immediately by the thought "ROTOR FARMIN TEAM FOR BORN IN BATTLE"

So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
Nice to see Statesman actually being heroic in a story. He tried to save a villain but failed, and made sure it didn't happen again even if he put his life at her mercy.

Anyways, my point is, how come in the game, the Heroes and Archvillains are ridiculously overpowered, able to take on 8 heroes/villains at once; but in the stories and lore, one punch usually knocks them dead?

Seriously, you're the one not making any sense.
How could someone control a demon that almost took out Statesman? Duh! It said "control", not "beat senseless". She was bypassing its physical attributes.
How could someone so tough almost get one-shotted? What, Superman isn't vulnerable to kryptonite AND magic? This is a common occurrence. Someone who is invulnerable to everything would be boring.

No I think everyone got it wrong. This story obviously is set before i14 (IIRC) and Statesman had his defensive toggles shut off before that demon attacked him. That's what the line about "left himself open" means.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I team with the Repeat Offenders.
Reading the 2 new profiles for the Going Rogue characters, and I noticed this in Desdemona's bio.
[ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately in doing so, Statesman left himself open to attack and the demon dealt him a near fatal blow. Using the distraction, Desdemona was able to gain the upper hand and bring the demon under her sway. There she stood, with the man responsible for her mother's death lying at her feet. With one command, her new pet could easily finish what it had started. Suddenly the opportunity she had dreamed of her whole life had arrived. Whether the greatest hero in Paragon City would live or die was her choice. She raised her hand as if to send her minion to attack.and then simply turned and walked away with her emotions in a jumble.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, you're telling me that Statesman can withstand an onslaught of endless attacks from 8 super villains, but when a demon smacks him he nearly dies? What, is this the rare 'Hamidon' classed demon? How does Desdemona control something of such magnitude that it can swat Statesman down like a fly?
Here's some more...
[ QUOTE ]
Eve's mother, Amelia, was a powerful sorceress who had the ability to summon and control demons. Unbeknownst to her family, she also happened to be a super-powered villain, who called herself Desdemona. One night Brandon spied Amelia summoning a demon and flying off on its back to a heist. He followed her in his car and came upon her as she was battling Statesman over the streets of Paragon City. Brandon confronted Amelia and broke her concentration, causing her to lose control of the demon she was controlling. It grabbed her and in the ensuing struggle, flew headlong into the rotors of a nearby news helicopter.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now I know that a few people actually can solo Archvillains (or heroes in this case) but only if they bring a tray full of Break Frees and Lucks, and have IO'ed their characters to death. So obviously, Amelia is one super-powered villain to be able to stand toe-to-toe with Statesman. The same demon breaks from her control, and simply grabs her and throws her into a helicopter. What kind of demon is this?!
Anyways, my point is, how come in the game, the Heroes and Archvillains are ridiculously overpowered, able to take on 8 heroes/villains at once; but in the stories and lore, one punch usually knocks them dead?
(And if the demon is that powerful in the story, I'd hate to see it in-game! )
