Soft Cap with Diminishign Returns?

Ok, I made a new elec/Nin stalker and I plan on PvPing with it. So the question is, how much defense above 45% would I need to achieve the softcap after DR kicks in?

I know there are no exact numbers on how exactly DR affects everything but if anyone could give me a round number of how much over 45% i would have to go, I would be very thankful.

more than you can achieve on a permanent basis.

I don't know...can you perma Shadow Meld? Lots and lots of recharge but it may be possible.

Nope. Even if you were at the recharge cap (something even full teams can't often do), you'd still have some downtime.

Tested with my DM/Nin just now in RV; with just set bonuses, Combat Jumping, Danger Sense, and Ninja Reflexes I needed to pop Retsu to break 45% (49.77% Ranged, 48.74% Melee, 46.11% AoE). Otherwise it's low-30s for everything.

So, perma-Retsu for the soft cap with Diminishing Returns; roughly 95-100% defense.

I have a DM/Nin and I can hit 50% def without Retsu/Shadow Meld. Basic powers. Weave, Combat Jumping, Manuevers. Thus with my click powers I can raise it to +44 with shadow meld with a 25 second CD and +90 with Retsu with no CD and push 150% with everything activated... My build however is EXTREMELY end heavy and I rely on killing in 2-3 attacks (assassin/Life Drain/Midnight) This is all done with A LOT of sets and costs around 500 bill inf

Try that again in a PvP zone.

My DM/Nin is over 45% to Melee/Ranged and 42% AoE with Hide suppressed outside of one.

Ya this is for pvp which no offense sounds like you don't know to much about but the real question is.... how the heck does someone put 500billion into a build? Did you purposely spend 100 more times the the nao price on everything? Seriously purpled out toons don't cost that much even by todays standards.

This. Not to mention your lulzy slotting in your best attacks (Siphon Life and M. Grasp).. and no self-heal! And useless pet uniques on an unenhanced pet! Finally, no Placate...

Well, if I pull up your build in Mids and turn of Kuji-In retsu and Shadow Meld you have 45% melee, 51.9% ranged and 90% AE def showing. However, thats with hide included and Mids uses the full, unsupressed hide values which means those number are only good until you attack. Suppressed hide only gives you only 1.875% to all positions - which would be 2.71% with the slotting you have there. That means that your actual def values when hide is suppressed would be:

Melee: 36.8 + 2.71 = 39.51
Ranged: 43.7 + 2.71 = 46.41
AoE: 33 + 2.71 = 35.71

So you are capped on ranged but about 5.5 points short on melee and way short on AE when hide is suppressed - which is the state during most combat and thus the numbers you should use.

Mids doesn't factor in anything for pvp not DR not heal decay nothing. Not since I13.
