hahahaha nice find, so all those years of being greifed was in the name of science? Got to love it, he really was the forefather of droning, those who do it now are just not as funny as his were, and then he would say something that made no sense afterwards yet it was funny. [censored] lol

Edit: And he got paid for greifing, that's priceless in itself, book royalties, grants and such. People used to say he was a kid with like add or something, little did they know he was actually smarter than most. Especially getting paid to pvp literally and make it in the name of science, that's brilliant [censored] lol

Amazing discovery! Droning people over and over make people MAD! Good work, sir Twixt. What will you discover next? The cure for cancer?

(Oh, and saying that droning is "what devs intended" is pretty false. They are there to PROTECT the base while its inhabitants can rest safely.)

Smarter than most? Thats a rather bold conclusion. He is certainly crafty for finding a way to make good coin from playing CoH, but I'll draw the line at an intelligence comparison.

His 21 page paper written in 2008 is what they're talking about. It's linked in this article.

I thought it was interesting and funny.

It's easy to make people mad.

Forget which server it was on, but did anyone ever think of just bringing a kin for TP protection?

[/ QUOTE ]Well under normal circumstances it takes years of school to be a accredited professor, so unless we all have doctorate degree's under our belts, my BA was hell to achieve. So i didn't say anything past the obvious, don't be offended, if you too are a professor studying in human mental behavior and sociology than i applaud you too. As i know such a thing is a great undertaking in patients and school time. It's all good.

So since Professor David Myers has determined that playing a game in a vindictive, unconventional manner, with clear intent to provoke, insult, and spoil other's fun, will cause social group's become "medieval" and mean-spirited?

I could have done a similar experiment in a grammar school playground. If you run up and kick other's kids in the knees, or take away the ball every time they're trying to have fun together, they're not gonna like you.

This guy is a tool. He's not a genius. He's not doing socially enlightening, helpful work. He basically found a way to play video games on the clock all in the name of research. And to top it off, he lives and works only 5 miles away from me.

I love how the article makes it as though he was just a regular Joe, playing the game as intended, just trying to have fun. He was nothing of the sort. He'd insult you, do things like drone you, then talk smack to you. His only tactic consisted of exclusively using tp foe and tp to teleport you into a mob of NPC's, or into a drone.

My first experience with the guy was him tping me into an unwinable situation, me phasing out, then him broadcasting insults about me to everyone because I had used phase shift. What a crock. I'm just glad I didn't give any of my money to Loyola.

A while back i messages Twixt that he never killed me (which is true) and i've killed him 3 times on my /psi dom... it actually made him ask what my doms name was... i think he went back to check all his logs too bad he did not find my dom's name in his log (oh well) too bad his experement did not work on some of us. And by "Us" i mean those Players that PvP for the sake of defeating fake characters controlled by other Players with a completely indifferent attitude and approach.

Hmm, the impression I got from the in game persona of 'Twixt' was certainly not an objective professor.

Heck there has been many a time where he went off the deep with 'base is safe', 'moar phase', 'arean boys'!

Twixt's persona would have had me at moar phase, arean boys, and cry moar plz... and i would have joined in on the 10 year old's broadcast immaturity BUT after further observation and hearing the "base is safe" made me apprehensive. That and his play style in PvP was way too methodical and systematic, which lead me to believe that he was very intelligent, but had a capricious personality. Anyhow, The phrase "base is safe" told me one of two things... he's a douchey 24 year old international student from Dubai who couldn't make any friends, OR a 38 year old who'd lost his job for having cyclothymia. I guess i was wrong... however i remained indifferent about him and continued my emotionless defeating of other players including Twixt.

I like this paragraph from the article;

"The professor was disturbed that game rules encouraging competition and varied tactics hardly mattered to gaming community members who wanted to preserve a deeply-rooted culture."

Yes, who cares about what the devs do to the PvP game, and we should not care about Twixt or Meyer... Let us defeat each other efficiently and with out emotion over and over with out fight clubs or other arbitrary rules. (not being sarcastic)

For his next book, maybe he could do a study about how caged animals react when repeatedly poked with a stick through the bars?
I mean, that is really an interesting idea.....
I can't even imagine what the animals reactions would be? He should definately do a professional study to enlighten the world about this type of scenario. The results would be riveting.....

/sarcasm off

Kudos for pulling a paycheck out of this to him......and shame shame shame on the university that pays his salary. The study is laughable and only enforces the obvious. NO [censored] animals bite back when u jab em with a stick.
I just can't believe a college professor is this retarded and in even more disbelief that the dean of his school paid him to purposely ruin the fun of children playing a video game. He got paid to RUIN the playtime of children. While many of us who play are adults....many of us are not. I assure you my daughter will not be going to his school. What a D-Bag.
