A player who has never left atlas park
[ QUOTE ]
And since we're sharing some horror stories here, two from last night:
1) I get on a team there, as I'm trying to do some story-oriented AE stuff to no avail on my Defender. Team consists of two Blasters, a Scrapper, two Controllers, a Tanker, and myself, a Dark/Psy Defender. The two Controllers are a Kin and an Empath.
Team leader: we need a healer
Me: We've got myself and two controllers, I think we'll be okay.
Team leader: well, you're not a real healer, and the two controllers won't help that much
Me: We've got three people with heals. That won't be enough?
Team leader: I doubt it
Me: What are we going to be fighting?
Team leader: We're doing the Hami farm
Me: ...
Me: I think we'll be okay
At this point, while I would normally leave, I want to see how this train wreck will go. I convince the leader that we'll be okay, and we enter the mission. I summon Fluffy, and we start fighting.
Team leader: Wow, great heals! I guess I was wrong about you guys. My health bar barely even moves!
Me: None of us are healing you. Fluffy is, because he's an idiot and can't help it. You're not taking any damage.
Team leader: Really?
Me: Yes, these guys don't shoot you. You're at 100% health the entire time. Heals do nothing for you here.
Team leader: Just because they don't shoot you doesn't mean that you're not taking damage.
Me: ... <quit>
2) After that team, I go back out into the AE area, and broadcast that I'm looking for a team doing stuff where enemies shoot back. I get invite to the following team, with none of them over level 12, except for one blaster, who is level 34.
Me: So, what are we doing?
Leader: PP farm
Me (to self): fine, at least this takes some skill
Me: Okay. We may need a Tanker for this one (the one we have is level 9 and won't survive long).
Leader: He should be okay
Me: Are you sure? These guys hurt, and the Tanker isn't exactly sturdy at level 9.
Leader: He'll auto-sk and be alright.
We enter the mission, and before everyone is even in, the Tanker goes crashing into the first spawn, and promptly dies. The rest of us enter the fray, and I rez the Tanker. We fight off the first spawn alright.
Me: I don't think that the Tanker should take point here.
Leader: No, now that everyone is in, he'll be okay.
Me (to self): sigh
We go to the second spawn, and the Tanker goes in first, and dies, quickly.
Tanker: WTH? Why do I die so fast?
Leader: I'm not sure. You guys healing him?
Me: He's level 9! We can only heal him if he doesn't die before we get to him.
Me: Mind if I take point on a spawn? We can herd and it might be a little bit easier?
Leader: I guess so.
Me: Okay, I'm going to herd to here. Just wait for the enemies to come to us, and then we can fight them. Everyone got that?
Everyone: okay!
So, I lay down a tar patch, summon Fluffy, target a Mob, and hit him with Darkest Night, then retreat around the corner. As the enemies are coming to us, I see the entire team go careening around the corner charging at the enemy, at which point they all die one after another.
Me: Why didn't you guys let them come to us?
Team: What?
Me: I was herding them to us, why didn't you wait?
Team: Want to go fight Hamis? They don't hurt at all.
Me: sigh...<logs for dinner>

ROFLMAO!!!!
I got one of each AT (except WS) to 50 heroside, the hard way. I'm never doing AE unless a friend asks me.
Right now, I'm soloing a fire/em blaster...got her to 25 so far. Someone actually gave me a shout out for 'doing regular missions'.

Ah, yes, because everyone who goes 1-50 in AE has a glowing icon next to their name that says "AE Baby." How silly of us all to miss that!

As an avid badger myself even I don't believe badges can tell the whole story behind the person playing a character. Badges can be an indicator, but they should not be relied upon to judge people completely.

Alright...this might sound crazy but it could work...potentially.
Make AE require a level 50.
The same way EATs and VEATs are aquired.
After you reach level 50 with a character you can now make missions and you can do AE missions with any level character.
Therefore the only people doing the AE missions are people that have went through the game the original way 1-50.
This makes sense to me because I always thought of AE missions to be missions you do because you have done all the original content over and over.
Also, as a side perc...you can potentially level faster now since you have already leveled a character to 50.
I see no problem with that...I mean you have to level to 35 to get into RWZ.

I actually agree with the idea that the MA -should- have been limited to people who had level 50s already, despite the general whining and bickering that would have caused.
But I think the idea of forcing that kind of restriction on the thing -now- would be amazingly unlikely.
The backlash at this point would be apocalyptic...

Most of these posts are kind of hypocritical.
It's hypocritical because the real reason your upset is because you want to make the game easier by inviting players on your task force team that know what they're doing instead of just teaching someone how to play and informing them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, when I ask someone to join me on a Task Force, I expect them to know what they are doing. I am not their friggin' teacher, nor did I ask to be their teacher. I am all about giving someone a hand when they ask, pick up TFs are not the place for me to instruct you how to play your toon. If a player steps up to the plate, they better be able to take care of their end of things.
I figure that I am going to start asking people a bit of trivia about the game or their powers before I actually invite them to my team. Just to see if they ever left AP or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
I always let people know how few TFs/SFs I have done and especially remind them when I have not done a particular TF before however I would like to add that some of us who do run a TF once in a while are likely not up on all the specific tricks when people are used to running them all the time.
I wish I could run them all more often but time just doesn't permit it.

As someone who skipped out right when the 40 level went to 50, missed a year and a half to two years, and then played super casually until recently...
...what was the old way? Just curious, as even I am dismayed at the lack of knowledge in AE folks who should know more, of the folks I team with (a few exceptions in that).
That being said, I spent a day experimenting with it on my two fifties (I have one heroic and one villian), and found it to be... excessive.

I think after you hit about level 40 without leaving Atlas Park, your character should turn around and say "Come on, man. What are you doing? We're missing the whole game. There's more to do than Architect. Look, let me show you," and then start walking toward the Yellow Line station and take you on a tour of all the zones.
If you still opt to continue to 50, the character can get a restraining order placed on you and look for a new player. "Level 45 Scrapper LF owner. Only played in Atlas Park, but willing to try new things! Please adopt me!"

Sadly there are plenty of ways to PL in this game that don't involve the MA. It's just that the MA has made doing it SOOOOO much easier that many people are abandoning the old drugs for the new one...

That's a lot more common than you think. I have several characters in the 40's with just one costume slot. The one costume suffices because they are perfect for the character.
Then agan. I have other character which have all of their costumes as soon as possible. Those are fashion divas. So many costume ideals it get's expensive. I for one am thankful for the Tailor Discount Vet Reward.

Yes they would have to be to earn XP there.
People have discovered how to use specific missions and specfic "farming" builds to maximize these efforts.
But as I said all of that pales in comparsion to what you can get away with in the MA now.

I'd like to see a max xp cap on AE. That is to say, you can only get 125k to 1 million xp from it. That would place you at levels 20 to 30 if you started in AE. After that your character caps out and cannot earn any more xp from AE.
This would fix the AE baby problem and stop total powerleveling in AE completely. You have to go out and actually find full missions and learn to play your character.

Why? They could still do the new content. They just would have to mix in regular content along the way. They could still be getting influence and tickets from the MA doing the new content.

This isn't a cry of 'Doooooom'. I'm generally optimistic about CoH's future. Nevertheless, I don't see most players staying in one zone for their entire career being good for the game. Smoking too much? No, to me it's more like watching a friend hold their hand in a fire and realizing that for some reason they seem to like the searing pain. The whole "AE baby" thing is almost creepy.
I don't outright hate the MA and I'm not strictly against anyone doing what they like to do in a MMO. I just can't for the life of me see how this kind of dead-end zombie-like behavior is ever going to end up being a net positive thing for the future of this game. *shrugs*
