I think it was Samuel Tow who brought this up not too long ago, but its worth questioning again because it is just that kind of bizarre.

Who in the name of ten thousand small green devils was sitting around in the NCSoft offices going:

"....Hey, you know, Malta are seriously underpowered. I think Malta might even be an exploit...! Its not enough that they got Sappers, its not enough that they got 5-minute stuns and its not enough that Gunslingers have a five-minute Hold on toppa that. No! Malta are waaaaaaay too easy!

We gotta fix this! I know, lets give the Titans a Toxic hold on top of all that! Awesome idea! It'll not only Hold them, it will do a ton of DoT as the victim is held forever in some robotic green cloud o' funk. I should win an award for this...!" *races off to the drawing board*

Whoever that was needs thier funny-bone rapped hard and repeatedly with a rubber reflex-hammer until they lie on the floor curled into a ball, begging for mercy. Sort of like Chinese water torture but with a little rubber mallet.

[I think it was the Titans who had the stupid hold; if not them, SOMEBODY certainly had it. And btw this is NOT an MA issue.]

Also, I like the new malta titans. If Im not paying attention, and I'm especially drunk, then they realy do pose a threat now. Joking and self-agrandizement aside, I can see how they are frustrating to solo for certain builds (I.E. builds without mezz protection, or status effects of their own). Of course, as you point out that was already true - I'm not sure this addition will be the straw that suddenly makes the empathy/electricity defender unable to solo them where-as before he was eating them for breakfeast. If you were able to solo malta before, chances are you still can.

Yes. The AI needed some tweaks to get better use out of the powers.

Swarm Missiles: Ranged, Area of Effect, Lethal, Foe Knockback
Zeus Titans can launch a pack of 16 Incendiary Swarm Missiles

Gas Swarm Missiles: Ranged, Area of Effect, Lethal, oe Hold
Zeus Titans can launch a pack of 16 Gas Swarm Missiles

Sleep Gas: (Targeted Area of Effect) Foe Hold
Anyone that passes through this gas will take damage from the fumes.

Incendiary Swarm Missiles: Ranged, Area of Effect, Lethal, +Burn
Zeus Titans can launch a pack of 16 Incendiary Swarm Missiles

Burn: (Targeted Area of Effect, Damage over Time, Fire) Burn
Anyone that passes through these flames will be burned.

Plasma Blast: (Ranged) Foe -Regeneration
Titan plasma burns are hard to heal. The burns have halted your Regeneration rate.

Quad Plasma Blast: (Ranged, Energy) Foe -Regeneration
Titan plasma burns are hard to heal. The burns have halted your Regeneration rate.

Pummel: Melee, Cone, Heavy Smash
Titan Brawling attacks.

Jump Jets: Self Auto, +Jump, +Speed
Zeus Class Titans are equipped with Jump Jets.

Resistance: Auto, Self +Resistances (All). Resist: Sleep, Fear
Zeus Titans are resistant to all damage. Since they are machines, they are immune to Sleep and Fear powers.

Yeah, basically they only used certain powers at certain ranges. Their missile volleys only ever fired when they were at fairly long range, so besides ambushes on big open maps (or foolish attempts to snipe-pull without breaking line of sight, I suppose) you rarely ever saw them.

I assume this change was inherited from the adjustments to MM pet AI.

I thought something was different!

My Fire/Rad Controller's keeps clutching her throat, coughing and dying in the middle of a blue burn patch, and I was sure that Malta never used to do this before.

Now I know why...

On the subject of the 30 second stun grenades. I assume that they were intended to stack on tanks and scrappers with their long durations, I always wondered why they didn't just make them higher mag instead, eg Mag 6 for 15 second instead of Mag 3 for 30 seconds.

Some thoughts.

1) I dont want smarter AI foes. I love beating up a dumb AI. I wish they were all like to [censored] Cimerorans and crowded into my AoEs. Like feeding dudes into a woodchipper, it's awesome. Moar dum AI plz!

2) I like the new Titans. They're awesome, and they look cool when I fight them, firing off the salvos of missiles and toxic gas. Very cool, very high tech and awesome looking.

3) They're not doing anything that I wasn't prepared to handle when I signed on for a mission against Malta anyway.

4) Malta are gawdamned tough. But I like them anyway.

Edit- huh, apparently you cant say [censored]. The word I used rhymes with "plumbass".

Just be glad that there wasn't some change that gave Sappers a whole new way of ruining you.

I hate when I'm tabbing through a mob of Malta to make sure I get the Sapper first, but somehow I miss him. Then think to my self, "sweet no sapper." Run in, get off one attack, and then look around going "why aren't my powers working?' Only to realize its because I have no end and the Sapper continues to ghostbust me, mocking me with his cool gun that I can't have.

What's wrong with his YouTube Profile? Why do you have to hate the video? I mean sure, the audio is kind of wonky, but I don't think that's a reason to wish him to die in a fire.

And really, "die in a fire"? Isn't that kind of extreme anyway?

Giving titans a Toxic hold with DoT is not making them "smarter." There is nothing more intelligent about that, the basic behavior of the NPC is unchanged.

But hey it is all good. If they want Malta to be a group I 110% avoid like the plague - just like how I avoid Knives - its all good. I'll go beat up some Carnies instead.

Malta were already super annoying, un-fun and something I avoided at all costs, so the devs upping their annoyance factor even further doesn't impact me.

Except they have additional mez protection of their own. I was running the first Black Scorpion arc on my Ice/Therm Corr and dropped the difficulty to heroic because I hate malta... I couldn't hold the titans as LTs, so they've got at least mag 1 mez protection prior to rank modifiers.

a bit of a tangent but I HATE lowering my difficulty.

It feels a bit too much like purchasing victory for my tastes. I normally run on level 4 regardless of toons, for a decent blending of xp and loot, without ever crashing into an AV solo.

I see all of this hate for Malta, why? I love fighting them because they're actually a challenge unlike some mobs in this game. I believe more mobs need to be like Malta, smarter.
