they're no more intelligent than any other enemy faction, they just have much harsher powers at their disposal.

if you like 'em, knock yourself out.
I'd rather bail hay than fight Malta.

Never once said that, thanks.

I don't like them because I regard a high-DoT Toxic hold on top of a 5-minute Stun and a high-damage Missile Swarm and a 5-minute Hold to be ridiculously overpowered. Ridiculously overpowered means that Bad will not accept those newspaper/scanner mishes and she will also avoid those contacts. See, I am in the game to have fun. Ridiculously overpowered is not fun to me.

Therefore you can now have all of my Malta! They're all yours; enjoy 'em. Its a win-win!

No, I don't like them because some of their powers border on being an I Win button and others do nothing but needlessly prolong battles.

Sappers total end drain isn't fun. gunslingers TPing around the map isn't fun. I haven't experienced it, but this Titan hold with a basically unresistable toxic DoT component doesn't sound fun. Throw in minions with a variety of super annoying powers, and I'll take a pass, thanks.

If you enjoy fighting them, fantastic- I leave you to it.
I find them to be vastly more frustrating than fun.

When the AI fix happened and the Malta started using more powers, my reaction was "Oh, these guys are tougher now. I'd better start paying attention." Previously the extent of my attention to them was "kill sappers first!" Now I need to think about it, and doubly so when playing as/with the softer ATs. I think this is an improvement to the game. I wish every faction was like this, with enemies that actually require you to prioritize among multiple threats. They are the polar opposite of the council, where it's just attack nearest until it's dead. Do that against the Malta, you get what you deserve.

Not to put words in anyone's mouth, but it sounds like people think the enemies should just brawl so they don't have to worry about dying. The idea that Malta are unstoppable forces of doom is ridiculous. They are a threat now. They can be defeated and their higher threat level now rewards smarter play.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nooooooo, let's restate this one more time so that we can try [again!] to lay this non-sequiter to rest:

No one has said that they "want enemies to only use Brawl." If you think otherwise, do produce a quote because I don't remember saying that anywheres, nor have I seen anyone else saying it.

Malta- we have:

*Sappers

*Five minute Ice holds [or they certainly FEEL like 5 min...]

*Five minute Stuns

*Porters

*High DoT Toxic Holds

*high-damage missile swarms

... And probably a few other things I'm forgetting at the moment.

Take some of these things and put them together and you have "challenge." Put ALL of them together and you have "ridiculous."

I know some of you want to pretend that we have two extremes in the game to choose from, with nothing in between: pushover and OMG OVERPOWERED! Anyone objecting to the last is obviously a pushover-desiring Carebear with the gaming skills of the average hydrocephalic, who wants the first.

Luckily that's not how it actually goes down.

I don't think the Malta are overpowered at all, which is why I see objections to the Malta as being indicative of wanting combat to be a shooting gallery. I'm not accusing anyone of being a carebear, whatever that means. If it means no PvP, hey, I'm the Carebear King. I'm also not intentionally maligning anyone's gaming skills, but when my experience with a given part of the game is vastly different from someone else, I do tend to look for reasons. My position:

1. Malta are not ridiculous, unmanageable or overpowered, they are a challenge.
2. I like a challenge, I like the Malta, and I enjoy fighting them.
3. Some people don't like the Malta because of the things that make them a challenge.
4. Those people don't want a challenge.

I assume we differ on point one. I don't see them as overpowered or ridiculous because I fight them and defeat them whenever they come up. I don't avoid them, in radios or contacts. Hell, Crimson and Indigo are two of my favourite contacts. Despite their newfound power, I still fight them and defeat them regularly. I guess our difference of opinion comes about because our gameplay experiences differ.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think anyone is presenting this, unless it's you. I can't think of any mob group that is OMG OVERPOWERED at all. I'd like to remind you that I'm not the one claiming that the Malta are too hard; I'd never make that claim because, in my experience, it's not true. Therefore, I am not making a claim that there are two extremes with no middle ground. My claim is that the Malta are more challenging than other mob groups, but far from overpowered, as shown by the fact that I can handle them and sometimes actually seek them out for a good time. Your position seems to be that the Malta are impossibly overpowered and you can't handle them in gameplay. Your experience differs from mine, so it's no surprise we don't agree on this. I apologize if I said something earlier than was insulting or snide.

Out of curiosity, and strictly to form a point of reference, which enemy group or groups in this game would you consider to be a challenge without being overpowered?

I guess the old comment is true.

People want smarter AI foes, then when they do appear people complain about their difficulty.

[/ QUOTE ]

Giving titans a Toxic hold with DoT is not making them "smarter." There is nothing more intelligent about that, the basic behavior of the NPC is unchanged.

But hey it is all good. If they want Malta to be a group I 110% avoid like the plague - just like how I avoid Knives - its all good. I'll go beat up some Carnies instead.

[/ QUOTE ]

They already HAD the hold, it was just not often used.

Ergo they made them smarter

They've always used that attack. It's only just recently I've noticed they now stack holds properly.

No they haven't. The only way you would have seen that attack before was if you tried to snipe one or something.

I have, in fact, attacked them with a few of my ranged toons while also aggroing them when passing by. And what I meant by number 2, is that in Warburg sometimes I'd brush past one and he'd fire off his missiles (the Hercules Titan anyways).

I enjoy fighting Malta. IMO B_I and Nethergoat have the proper attitude: They don't like them, so they don't fight them. Nothing wrong with that. Neither one of them is asking for a change(I think, I skipped a couple posts). So I don't even really get what people are arguing about.

No agitating for change here.

Some people like 'em, and that's fine.

Diversity is a good thing.

Well, you were the one who in essence posted that you thought anyone who thought Malta are stupidly overpowered wanted "enemies who only use Brawl," not me. No one actually posted that.

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL, whut...? I never said "I cannot handle them! ZOMG!"

I did say that I consider them 1. overpowered 2. not enjoyable in the least to fight. This last is the crux of the issue. From this you extrapolate an entire universe of things which were not said.

As I have said twice before, you are welcome to all of the stupidly overpowered Malta you want. Have at 'em. You don't consider them overpowered, and that's great.... but your opinion in no way trumps my own, because all of this is entirely subjective.

I will avoid them from now on, just like I avoid other stupidly overpowered groups. We have a few at varying levels, all very avoidable. I am sorry that this seems to make you feel that I am a Carebear [see what I did there...?], but there the matter rests for me.

Whatever I said would be pounced upon and torn apart still screaming, not necessarily by you but by others; I would not touch that question with a ten-foot pole. No offense, but not going there.

I can tell you that Malta used to be one of 'em. Not anymore.

I can't believe no one pointed out Sappers that fly. That didn't always do that.

One day they just... did. Tab tab tab no sappers, what - what? It was up by the ceiling of course.

Sappers not flying ? I recall back when Catwhoorg was in his 40's being bushwhacked with flying sappers on a fedex from Indigo.

I remember when they were just punks you beat down, then flight and able to shoot you even after you hit them with an Alpha strike stunning them.
