Girls go bare too.
I use the tops with skin option for one version of my outfit so it has a V-neck instead of the badge.

As a quick aside I think it was always explained that WW wore all the "American patriotic imagery" out of respect for the US flag colors Steve Trevor wore when they found him on Paradise Island. Obviously it also played into the whole "wholesome American hero" thing for kids reading the comic too.

(Sorry, it's one of my favorite stories, it makes me geek out.)
But back to the subject at hand. I'm one of those crazies that steps back from any costume I'm designing and goes "That's nice, but can she actually FIGHT in this?" If it has me going "God that's got to chafe" or "my, you look chilly, dear" odds are it will not even make Outbreak. As a result, I tend to 'Legionnaire-esque garb - full body spandex with gloves and/or practical combat boots for the win.
Hex Pistol is one of my exceptions, as she's my love letter to the time I was obsessed with Image Comics, Lady Death, Vampi... Not quite scantily clad, but she's getting there - and there's three-four more costume slots to unlock. If only I could get hold of Desdemona's boots, her outfit will be full of win - and really interesting tan lines come summer.

LoL. I am a female in real life, and up to recently every one of my toons has been female. I forgot where I was, Steel Canyon maybe, when a toon came up to me and sent me a tell. It read "You are a female in real life aren't you?" "Yes" I sent back bemused. "I KNEW IT" said he/it...and he/she flew merrily away leaving me looking at my toon.
She was wearing jeans, and a baggy top with the frost design. I guess he/she thought real life women don't dress their toons in, err, scanty, come here big boy, clothing, and I proved him right.... Wonder what he/she would say if he/she had come across my Archery Blaster's lil' black fightin' outfit...that outfit would blast his theory out the window This is a fun thread...just sorry I got to it late. |
My female characters don't really have skimpy or tight outfits, except as a joke.
On the other hand, I have a tendency to make them rather overelaborate and frilly and cool looking. Then again I do that with all my costumes.
But I don't care what you play, I'll just assume your a dude, you'll be treated like one of the guys & if you get offended by my text(Cuz guys tend to be more straight foward & rude(but in a funny way), cuz we are guys). Tough,
I do act nice & proper when I feel like it, but its interwebs & to be honest, You'll be treated like a dude by me, makes it easier on my time |
I've heard this LAME concept before ("I'll just assume everyone is a guy"), and it makes me wonder if the person spouting it has other issues that generally make him uncomfortable around females or is more comfortable with his own gender, and THAT's why he'd rather treat everyone as a guy, so he could avoid interacting in any way with females ("gasp!").
I'm sorry, but I'm female (I only have ONE male character out of dozens), and I'd like to be treated that way. If that bothers you sooooo much, you're welcome to stay far away from me.
You know what's easier on my time? Treating what looks like a girl like a girl and what looks like a guy like a guy.

And people that go "lol I'm a guy" when I call them she/her/ma'am/whatever I just ignore and go on calling them by their character's gender, because I'm here to interact with your character, not with you.

This has been a very interesting thread for me, as I've seen the "women don't do that" mentality a lot. What's been confusing me lately is that a fair portion of people with this mentality fly the feminist flag.
It really blew my mind when the Walk power was revealed for this game. Actually seeing people say that the female walk was something "only a prostitute would do" was something I can not understand. So, guys can can swagger and strut, but if a woman does the same, then she must be a call girl? And this by people who claim to represent a mentality based on equality of the sexes?

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.
Seriously. The only reason a guy would take that stance would be that he clearly can't prevent himself from hitting on females otherwise. Personally I'm going to treat you like your character's gender because I don't care what your real life gender is. It's likely never going to matter to me in any way.
And people that go "lol I'm a guy" when I call them she/her/ma'am/whatever I just ignore and go on calling them by their character's gender, because I'm here to interact with your character, not with you. |
But just today, there was an issue where one of our team mates was being a 'moron', to put it nicely, and kept calling me 'her'. Now, normally I couldnt give flying wah-hoozit, but when it comes down to that, I would rather be acknowledged as a guy. The fact he kept getting it wrong actually only made me all the more angry at him (or her, in fact) for being such a little...idjit.
So, interacting with just the character works...up to a point. Then you really do need to remember there are people behind those characters, who may get rather irate for being, for want of a better word, ignored.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

See, that usually is fine. Im used to being called by whatever characters name im on at the time.

Guy toon, with a female player in my SG, I'll call that player him. Now she has quite a few female toons in the SG, and I find myself switching between him/her. Though I always call her Oscar, no matter what toon she's on (when talking OOC...RP SG).
Have a male player in the SG,who's main is a female. I call him her, all the time.
In fact, in all the time I've been in the game, only twice when using the pronoun of "he or she" of the toon, have I heard anyone comment about it, in the game.
Once in a PuG...group was mostly RPers, guy toon was hitting on the female toon (ICly...female toon wasn't RPing), and the female toon responded, "lol...I'm a guy" which the other player responded "You're toon isn't" then kept it up, and the female toon just thought it was funny.
The other was in SG global chat. I called a new member him, and the player said "I'm a girll" I said, sorry, explained I usually call people he/she/him/her based totally on the first toon I know them as. She laughed, and I ended up calling her her.
Got into a discussion on this topic last night, and I said, "I call everyone by the toon I get to know them by. Whether I know if they're male or female or not. At which point, I still never care if they're a boy or girl, as it really doesn't matter to me."
Most agreed on that one.
If you don't RP, it should be a problem, because eh, it's a game. And if you RP, it shouldn't be a problem, because it's still a game.

Same here. Of course I'm to the point where I run on character name over even thir Global name, so there's that as well.

A very closed minded and immature attitude that i even discuss in a very strong way because i think it was completely over the line. Now that you mention the ones who fly the feminist flag, i have seen a lot of those and in my opinion some of them just play a fake feminist flag.
I play this game and i don't care which gender you are in person since i play here to enjoy with others and not to know get into your personal life without any respect.
This post is getting more interesting and i hope it continues that way.

The reason I don't have any female characters has to do with this topic. Everytime I try to make one I start to think: If I do this...then they'll think I'm a pervert. And we are only talking about the chest slider here.
Then we get to costume part where I start to think: Too much skin, they call me a pervert and vice versa....at that point I think...why bother? I'll just make another male toon, much easier.
Aside from the fact I find it difficult to roleplay a woman even if I'm not really a roleplayer.

@Lyrik
The only character i have made with skin is my Shield Defense/War Mace Tanker. Inspired by being a former Hellion (Blood Sister Slugger) In the beginning i was feeling a little uncomfortable but later i manage it because it was a character idea i draw and it is my first and last that way since i have never been into that type of character.
I have enjoyed her a lot and that is what is count. Same as my Zombie heroines characters which a lot of people will not like, the important thing is that we like them since we are the ones who are using them.
Reminds me of one of the most hilarious moments I've had while playing CoX... I was playing with a female friend I had gotten into the game, and someone came up to her and said they knew she was a guy because her chest slider was raised.
Needless to say, I laughed. A lot. And now I'm laughing again |

This being the internet...it doesn't matter to me whether you're male or female or what age you are. If you make eyecandy, I'ma ogle ya. If you make eyecandy AND you're cool...you get globaled. Nuff said.
I use "with skin" when I am not using robes, togas or jackets, mostly because a large number of my characters have a vaguely Greco/Roman background, and tights don't work for them.
I do wish that the Roman chest details were also available as tops with skin as well as chest details, so that at least the lorica breastplate could be customized with a logo. I also wish that patterns could be added to at least some of the tops with skin. I would cut off a finger to be able to add the Cheetah / leopardskin pattern to the Strapless top. (Didn't say it would be one of my fingers....)

I enjoy showing some skin on my chars. Not awhole lot tho, i'm not a fan on eden and bikini 3 tbh, but designing costumes which look good and are sexy is fun! I love Shocks tushie(and boob)-cleavage ,i like a little hint of under-boob and i'm a huge fan of bare legs but i also don't mind doing something clothed up.
My characters looking good is probably the most important thing to me in any game. And looking good to me can vary alot

It shouldn't bother you that I think you're a 45 year old trucker named Bob. It shouldn't matter in the slightest. Are you playing a role, or is this game a dating interface for you? The role I am presently playing will react to the role you are presently playing, and that should be the extent of it. Is it insecurity that you feel you "must" always be treated as a female?
Glad it did, it's an interesting thread.
I know both guy and girl players who play both types, and Im a guy that plays both as well. It depends on the character, really. The majority of mine tend to be fully covered, with the odd tank top and whatnot. Theres a few care-free or 'dangerous' types who differ but I tend to prefer 'realistic' clothes and armour to spandex anyway.
Although, when it comes to playing a female character, having to run long distances does at least give you a better view PvPOnline had that in the promo comic they did for CoH Collecters Ed.
