I always welcome new powersets. Sadly, at this point I imagine they're just about one of the lowest priorities on the developters' list, so chances are they wouldn't even consider making 8 new ones just for 2 ATs to use.

What will happen to the original assault rifle power set? 
What makes much more sense is switching to an Assault Rifle (or other appropriate gun) as the emanation point of any other Blast set, rather than making them subsets of AR.
Of course, this is essentially Tier 2 or 3 Power Customization, which we don't know is feasible/possible yet.

Thunder is just the sound made by lightning. What you should be asking is "What's the difference between Sonic and Thunder?" or "What's the difference between Lazer and Energy?"

I could see this as one of two things either:
a. throws a detention field - with the appropriate recharge so it isn't too annoying.
b. throws force bolts- not much damage but lotsa knockback
I'd throw a vote in for a "sapper" setting as the top power in the set. Hey, if Malta can do it, why can't I?

well sonic and I guess laser rifle would be easy... just turn off the bullet animation as those 2 technically in rl have no visible output.. 
This is simply a form of Power Customization, except instead of customizing the colors of the effects you want to customize the damage type and animations.

It certainly would be a step-up from Standard Ammunition.Ammunition is to linear and straight.It needs roundness,with more content to choose from.

I was thinking it might be nifty to start expanding the powersets. Throw in new powers for the current Primaries and Secondaries, make them approach being as wide and varied as the EATs...
But then, that's me going slightly mad, so I don't have my heart too set on it.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

Over on Virtue,I have a AR/Device Blaster,and I love it a lot,but here is something else...What if you could select alternate versions of the Assault Rifle.Don't get me wrong,I mean,bullets have carried me far,but how about this?...
You select Blaster for the AT you want to play,and you wish to select the Assault Rile.Once you click it on the selection screen,a small menu could drop down from the word "Assault Rifle" and the menu you could pick from would look like this
*Assault Rifle
-Lazer Rifle
-Ice Rifle
-Fire Rifle
-Energy Rifle
-Electric Rifle
-Thunder Rifle
-Bubble Rifle
-Sonic Rifle
-Standard Ammunition
These are just examples of what you could turn the rifle into besides using the typical ammunition,and I know this idea,and these ideas,have probably been suggested before,but it couldnt hurt to have a little variety with this power,just like the variety of powers we have now.
As far as the power sets that would come with all these selections..I don't know,but this idea would work.
