Need help with a name

I have a wonderful concept for a toon (imo) and a snazzy costume. When I got to the naming portion, the name I wanted was taken. So I come here, humbled by my lack of creativity. Here is the concept, and story.

Concept:
An angel, a seraphim warrior, that turned his back on heaven, and followed the Morningstar in his rebellion.
"Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world – he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him."

When thrown from heaven though, he did not reach the depths of hell, but landed on the outskirts of Eden. He has watched humanity through the millenia. Observing there greatness, there flaws and tragedies. He now sees what it was that God wanted the Angels to bow down to, his most perfect creations. And in this, the humans greatest time of need, he has spoken to the great Archangel, Michael, and beseeched a return of his heavenly might to aid the human. Instead, he has been given the task of defeating the enemies of the humans, and returned a portion of his heavenly powers.

I can not seem to come up with a name though.
Oh yeah, he is a db/wp scrapper

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

The Redeemer?
The Supplicant?
The Sentinel? (probably taken and generic bait!)

Angel types seem to end in "im" Nephiliem, Seraphim, Cherabim. Perhaps look up some latin words for protector, guardian, and combine them.

Is the "im" signify a plural? One seraph, a choir of seraphim?

Angel proper names seem to end in "ael". Michael, Azrael, Gabriel...

Perhaps a Hebrew or Aramic translation of Protector, or guardian, or warrior.

Auphanael?

Aranael?

Myranael?

Those three are unlikely to be taken, since I just made 'em up!

Got one I'm happy with Preysiel
Presul latin for protector, and added the iel like Gabriel, and I like the nickname Prey, for those times when the full name is to short.

Thanks for the help all.

[/ QUOTE ]The -el suffix translates to "of God" where each angel is being named after some attribute of God. Michael is "Strength of God", Raphael is "Medicine of God", Uriel is "Light of God", etc. So you could decide on a word, try to translate it into Hebrew, stick an -el at the end and have a quasi-authentic angel name.

No, I'm not especially religious or anything; I just find the lore behind it interesting. My own name here "Jophiel" means "Beauty of God" and was (in non-Biblical texts) the name of the angel who was set to guard the Garden of Eden and keep the exiled Adam & Eve out.

Can we see the costume? That always helps me with a name.

The one on the right, except he has hair instead of a helmet, and has the dual valkyrie blades

Mary Sue-el.

Speaking of this "-El means some aspect of God", what does this mean for that one's superhero name "Kal-El"? He's the Kal of God?

As far as I can tell Michael means "who is like God" Raphael is "God has healed" and Uriel is "God is my light."

Good for you! I hope you enjoy them--I'm definitely a fan.

BTW, your character's bio is a little different than Remy's, since Remy wasn't ejected from heaven, but left of his own choice. But still, the similarities are striking!

[/ QUOTE ]Whoops, Gabriel is Strength, not Michael.

I've seen multiple ways of reading the names depending on the book. Main point being that you can pick a noun, translate it into Hebrew, attach an -el and have something that'll both sound angelic and have some sort of meaning. Granted, that meaning might be "God is my platypus" but meaning is meaning

Platypiel!

... must not generate characters while drunk...

I had some vague idea that theologically there was a "Second fall of angels"- not to hell with Lucifer, but to earth to mate with women- and those were Nephilim.

I was off by a generation, apparently.

Man, I brought up politics and religion in the same week. Watch this space for sex!
