Heh, I just recently decided to try the craft-and-sell shtick, nosed around, and settled on...Reactive Armors. Did a couple of them successfully and as soon as I got serious, suddenly got squeezed. Guess I know what happened. :P

Never settle!

(seriously, it's easy for ME to find a niche. Look at the top level in a "relatively good" set. You'll know it because the recipes are selling for a million instead of 2.5 K. Pick something that gives you about a factor of two, keeping in mind cost of salvage, and move around a lot. Ruts are comfortable, but you get run over.)

Please change the name of the thread to "smack my niche up" ... it's got to be the best idea I've ever had and I just can't stand to see it go unused ...

I haven't worked in the respec recipe niche in a long time, but when I did, I just gave the recipes away to people I heard saying they needed a respec but weren't high enough level and couldn't afford the recipe.

I mean, I kicked them twice, did a Nelson laugh, and raised their great-great-great grandfather from the dead just to tell them they had a weak descendant that should embaress them. Yeah - that's really what I did.

I have a rut with one toon, she is slowly making money and just got the craftsman badge (Guess I need to finish the IO badges). I figure I spend 1.5mil crafting, post for 4.5 and typicaly sell for 5-6mil. only time this rut is hard is when I run out over a weekend. the Recipe goes up 4-5X so my stock does not refile.

They do tend to go in and out of vogue. A blown niche doesn't necessarily stay blown for long as people move on to other things.

My brute's been consistently flipping level 50 Fly Speed IOs in spite of "blowing" it in a handful of posts over the last couple of weeks.

I mean, it isn't a tremendous moneymaker, but you figure SOMEBODY would eventually horn in on my action.

I can say I've been buying LotG +rchg, Miracle +Rec, and Numina's +rec/+rgn for 25-35M and selling them for 70M-120M, depending on which level and which of those three I get. It's a nice niche to play on a character you only log every 5-15 days. I usually turn 2-5 of those per login, but sometimes I only get a single flip.

My current favorite niche has actually gotten...better.

*buy recipe for 500K*
*craft*
*post for 4.8M*
*collect sale of 7M+*

Strange thing is, it's not there villain-side. Tried posting them for 2M, and they just sit there.

Just for the heck of it, I am trying to find a new niche right now. I went with the first two IO sets that popped into my head. Touch of the Nictus:Healing and Mako's Bite Accuracy/Endurance/Recharge were what I chose. I picked Touch of the Nictus and Mako's for no other reason than several of my characters use them. I spent a couple of minutes looking at the price differences between recipes and crafted IO's. The largest margins(regardless of salvage costs) determined what I chose to try. I didn't bother waiting for lower bids on salvage. I tried to spend as little time as possible buying, crafting, and listing. I have ten of each IO up for sale. I started with just over 29 Million Influence. I'll post an update tomorrow to see how I've done.

Time spent looking for a niche: About 10 seconds.
Time spent narrowing which recipes to flip: About 2 minutes.
Time spent buying recipes, salvage, and crafting IO's:About 2 minutes.
Influence invested: About 27 million.

Edit: Minor typo....

Also...I really don't need the Influence. This particular character is pretty well slotted. No Purples, and few ultra rares, but really well frankenslotted with some specific set bonuses. If I end up taking a loss(which frankly I highly doubt) it's not a big deal.

I would never post 10 of each at a time unless it's commons which turnover super fast. You're blowing your own niche before you start.

On a related note, I had a Nictus: Healing that I won on rolls and it was worthless. Blueside must rock...
