Why not?

Do or do not. There is no why.
Zek and Bill hit the nail on the head. All the fuss landed a few people forum bans, and at least a couple more that I know about got 3 day bans. We also got the S&I forums moved to the For Fun section(I think general discussion was moved there too at that time). I'm kinda surprised I didn't get a temp ban myself.
I enjoyed how those two people thought ANY disagreement was trolling, and one of them thought her minor programming experience made her qualified to say how easy her suggestions would be to implement. Bill, is that where the standard code rant came from?
edit: The whole situation upset quite a few people. Ex Libris took a lot of heat for some of the stuff.

If you're so weak someone saying "no" to your post causes you to burst into tears, the internet is the wrong place to be.
That's like running into a burning house after taking a shower in gasoline.

look. I understand about the Code Rant. some things would take too long to do and we don't know why. known and accepted personally
but, there is an awful lot of smugness on these forums. myself included. there was baiting of the people in question going on. plain and simple. it was pretty easy to predict what would happen.
just because you have a thick skin is no excuse to treat others like idiots. the forum is called Suggestions and Ideas, not Stuff I Don't Think is Practical (therefore I'm allowed to mock it). bullies are still bullies, even on the interwebz

The people putting up entirely moronic ideas got pissed that people would just out of hand say "no" - because they supposedly wanted feedback about their idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Zek, please forgive me for correcting you on this, and for subjecting you to a post from He Who Shall Not Be Named.
He Who Shall Not Be Named didn't want feedback. He wanted everyone to kiss his butt and tell him his farts were sunshine.

See he wanted the forums to be set up in a manner that would prevent people from disagreeing with an idea unless the OP chose to allow it.
In his world no one had a right to any opinion that didn't agree with him.
That was one of the many classics from He Who Shall Not Be Named! Thanks - this is like a 'FlashBack' episode of a favorite tv show!

Bill, is that where the standard code rant came from?
.
[/ QUOTE ]
Cant' say, I'm not the one who came up with it - but even without "I made a mod for NWN" or whatever she said, there were enough people saying "This is easy, they should just do it" that ti would have been made eventually.
As it is, the flowchart's still amusing.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, it is. Sapph came up with it.
As M_Bill said, there were many other "this is a minor thing and will be easy to do" "suggestions" Such as, Power Customization. I mean really, how difficult would it be to change the colors of a power? (in case you didn't catch that, it was sarcasm) In cases like that, Standard Code Rant Applies was the new /JRanger. Took longer to type, but was a tad more informative as well.

True. however, some people's opinions suck like a blackhole in your back yard. That's not to say that the people are that bad, just those opinions.
Of course, some people are that bad...and some aren't.

Unlike Memphis Bill, Sapph, and a few others, I never have a standard reply to common rants written in a word document on my computer...and in the time it would take me to find one on the forums, I could have it typed out already.

At least you have the qualifications to assistant people who don't understand the search "feature" then.

Indeed.
Idiocy, however, is.
I don't advocate gratuitous meanness.
But internet forums are not a congenial environment for those who can't process the derision generated by their bad ideas and lame posts.

The one thing that was truly comical about him was that the angrier he got, the worse his spelling and grammar became.
One look at a post of gibberish from him and you knew when he was foaming at the mouth and gnawing at the bedposts.
Did anyone ever have then chance to link him to that angry German kid playing unreal?
