Dead emotes
[ QUOTE ]

I really wish the emote pop-up menu picked up more of the newer ones. I forget they are there, and I feel silly keeping a print out of them on my desk.
[/ QUOTE ]
Many of the new emotes are tied to exclusive content such as Booster packs. Our quickmenu system isn't robust enough to discern whether or not an emote is something that you can actually do, so there'd be a lot of confusion for players if the Wedding pack or Cyborg pack emotes suddenly appeared in their quickmenu, but they couldn't actually use them.
However, some of our more clever players have figured out that you can edit the quickmenu on your personal system and basically set it up to do whatever you want. A bit of searching and I'm sure you can find a link to the how to for that.
[/ QUOTE ]
How about this, BaBs: every time a booster gets an emote, a "power" is granted to the player that does nothing else than activate the emote. It can be something like mastermind command icons and be in a tiny "Elite Emotes" power category.

Why do you hate me, and my nice, clean, organized action bars?
An emote where your arms in legs stick straight up in the air or maybe the comical drawn out death where you lie down motionless for a few seconds then clutch your heart and jerk in pain then go limp again then repeat kinda like pee wee herman in buffy the vampire slayer.

I don't think I've ever said anything is "hard" to do or even intentionally implied it. Challenging isn't really a factor for 99% of the stuff we do. Instead, it really boils down to time, available manpower, and prioritizing what's needed over what's desired or what we think will have the biggest impact on the game over what will appease the vocal minority.

yeeeeessssss.... like PvP, and the Arena... merits and such ... all "worthy" uses of time and assets ... NOT!
... and while I have your attention, make the Mission Architect behave more like the supergroup base editor! I want the ability to PLACE ITEMS WHERE I WANT THEM TO BE! jeesh, bajillions spent to make a new architect system when you HAVE a perfectly fine system already!!!

...Can we please get a sticky of exactly what each developer's job is? So any time someone complains to BaB about anything that isn't animation related, we can point out that it's not his department and they're wasting his/their/our time?
We'll always have Paragon.

You say that like it'd stop them from being annoying about it, and that they'd actually read it.
Both of which I find absolutely depressing.

I guess "hard" in this case is what the system can and cannot do, then I suppose there's little you guys CAN'T make it do with enough work, so I see what you mean.
While you're here, though, how about it? Is it even possible for dead characters to perform emotes without having to rewrite core systems?
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

[/ QUOTE ]this has been discussed already, there Eventually they would like to do this, but not at this time. from what i recall posi saying pathing is one of the considerations they will have to deal with. but theis may come to pass jsut not right now.
We can still have wistful thinking in this thread, right?
Because I'd love one where your character goes invisible and is replaced by a cartoony grave plot with crooked tombstone.

Meanwhile, back on topic,
I want one like THIS!
ETA: . . . (I am not sure whether people would wait to rez you to watch longer,
or rez you quicker to make you stop.)
.
I want a.... "I've fallen and I can't get up!" emote preferably gripping a small remote on the chest.
/e tombstone. Character digs a hole, hops in, and a tombstone pops out of the ground. Conversely still conscious players can have a new emote, e/ leaveflowers.

How about the emotes that are not tied into purchaseable content, such as flashlight, torch, research, researchlow, etc.?
Since everyone could use those, regardless of which pack they bought or didn't buy, there shouldn't be a reason they couldn't be added in to the list in a patch.
Yeah BaB? Not too hard huh?
Maybe you ought to just make this dead emote and show all those naysayers!!
Yeah, that would show em!
And also be friggin cool for us :P
I don't believe there is a "player.isdead" flag for determining if you're eligible to play emotes out or not.
Probably not--which means either the "laying on the ground dead" non-animation has a higher priority then any other animation; or there's likely an if statement somewhere that says "if health = 0, do not animate".
If the first is the case, there's no way around it. If it's the second, all that it'd take is a slight reworking "if health =/= 0, do not animate".
... assuming it's that basic; which it probably isn't.

So the players are yet again doing your job for you? NICE!
Wait a minute, would this be editing the game? If so, isn't that against the EULA? Please correct me on this point if I'm wrong. I'd love to be able to insert some personal textures into the gameworld on my personal machine.
What players should do :
Design content....CHECK!
Upgrade menu systems...CHECK!
What players shouldn't do :
Question Dev decisions.
Give negative feedback on bad design.
With all these new hires it seems that editing the quickmenu to incorporate specific emotes wouldn't be all that hard. But I could be wrong. I guess it's quite possible that all the coding to do so was lost way back when and that there's absolutely nobody on the staff who understands how to code.

This issue was covered back when Leandro first introduced the City of Heroes Splasher. Direct editing of the game's files is indeed considered a violation of the EULA. The method used by Leandro and also by the Quick Menu customization, however, is not. In the case of the quick menu edit, you are not changing the quick menu file as stored inside the game files - you are utilizing a debugging feature of the game that allows you to specify _overrides_ to in-game files client-side. When placed in the appropriate directory, the City client goes "Oh, I should ignore the bundled version and try this one instead." It must be named exactly correct, and stored in the exactly correct directory structure for it to work, but it works without modifying the game files as provided by NCsoft in any way shape or form, and thus is not a violation of the EULA.
