Going Rogue include graphical update?
The Devs have been hinting that they are working on a graphics update for some time, presumably tied to Going Rogue, but they have yet to confirm it (though they have come very close in one Positron interview).
Enjoying every AT in the game.

Everything will have a new reddish tint
My guess is "yes." I've been wrong a few times before on "CoX predictions," but my close friends can confirm that I've been right on the money more often than not. Not bragging....Just lucky, I guess.
I have 2 witnesses that can confirm I told them 3 days before "Going Rogue" was announced "You know what the next accouncement for CoX is, right? Switching sides." You should have seen their faces when I showed them the trailer 3 days later....lol! Yeah, I realize that there was previous knowledge of possible side switching from certain sources, but how could I have known it'd be the next announcement? :P

S'funny. Everyone else knew a full 9 months before that.

As for the graphics update, signs seem to point to 'yes'. BaBs all but admitted to it on Test the other night.

Aw man, am I gonna have to update this antique?

We don't know.
Graphics updates can mean two things:
The devs have found a way to update the engine so that overall performance is increased. This would be new.
The devs are dumping more crud in to make everything prettier and more cluttered as they did with CoV and the subsequent CoH texture upgrades. This is the normal MO and what I expect to occur. This means that yes, everyone will need to upgrade in order to maintain the performance they have now.
I started a thread in the tech forum about this topic but no information of worth came from it.
We'll know when I-16 goes live and we log on to test.
Be well, people of CoH.

Seems likely.
It's something they've expressed a desire for and a paid expansion is a great opportunity to roll out big advances.

"The engine we use is actually very powerful, but we have been conscious of peoples machines and minimum specs on the game for a while now, so we havent really seen the true glory of what it is capable of. But I think its safe to say yes, players can expect to see graphical improvements." - Positron, Ten Ton Hammer interview, Nov 12 2008
The title of that interview is 'The Line between Good and Evil', which is now a hell of a lot more significant than it was in November!
Whatever everyone speculates here, remember one thing. Look at the page with the trailer for the expansion. Look at the bottom of the page. Cryptic logo=Cryptic game engine.
Keep that in mind.

To quote Posi once again:
'The engine we use is actually very powerful... we havent really seen the true glory of what it is capable of.'
The talk has not been about a wholly new engine, but of tapping the potential of the current one. Even power customization wouldn't require an engine rewrite, just an awful lot of work.
Is that ridiculously high detailed model of Foreshadow sitting in the Hollows a foreshadow of what's to come? eh?
I predict high poly models, across the board texture improvements, especially environmental stuff, real-time lighting possibly with real day/night cycles with the sun being an actual light source during the day and lamps and player cast powers casting lights in the dark, and an overhaul to their effects system to make it both prettier and customizable. Frosting? Real time weather effects including rain, storms, and fog.
Super unlikely? War Walls come down, Paragon turned into a real streaming city and the Rogue Isles become traversable via swimming (or flying, or jumping or teleporting).
Could just be daydreaming, but here's hoping.
That would be really nice, Neogubercules.... Here's hoping that at least SOME of those happen, if not not all....
.... And, that's one hella funny avatar. Makes me laugh every time!

We have fog now in Dark Astoria. Otherwise I think its been said before that we are not getting rain or snow, because that would make too many people's machines turn belly-up on the spot. I agree this would be awesome to see, but I don't think its going to happen... too many player's machines have trouble with what we have now. I like the blowing snow we see at the Ski Chalet, but notice that they keep that really low-key.
I hope we get all the rest of this, especially the lighting effects. I would also like to see day/night become more realistic. True night in the game seems to last 5 minutes.
If this proves true, I swear to the Dark Gods of the Basement Dimension, that I shall forthwith drop my presence in *mumble*mumble* superhero game, recant all my castigations of PS on my knees, scantily clad, painted rouge over my entire body before their very building for all the world to see, holding a banner in one stating that Jay is teh, yes, teh God of Sexy and Positron is the tutelary Saint of our world, in the other, while simo reciting, 'I'm not worthy' in Greek, Arabic, ancient Sumerian and French....

No.
Sorry but the Devs have said before, they left the Cryptic logo in the game and on the site because Cryptic helped develop the game, that is pretty much it. They have full rights to the game now, they can do what they want and they don't have to keep the Cryptic engine if they don't want to.

To be honest i haven't predicted it every time, but i have always expressed a wish for it. i did predict a graphical update (including increased power customization) with great enthusiasm when i first saw the announcement for Going Rogue.

i make stuff...
I've seen it speculated in quite a few threads now that we are expecting Going Rogue to be released in conjunction with Issue 16. Could someone recap for me why we think issue 16 (guessing that might be released October give or take a week), and not issue 17 (possible Feb - Mar. 2010)? Just wondering if its just us wishing for it or if i've just missed a lot of clues.

Cryptic game engine, because that's what the game is running on. That's the only reason that their logo is still there. NcSoft license the game engine when they bought the CoH/V IP.
