Why on earth after 5 years Is there no Log Out...

XP can be turned on and off in the menu options, logout to server or character select should be too. Make the default set how it is now, but allow players to choose their own logging options. No biggie.

As for "quit to character select" or "quit to server select"? Bad idea. Especially with the in-game store now. If I were to leave my laptop alone for a minute to get a drink refill, someone could accidentally buy a bunch of character slots, spending money I may not have.

The in-game store didn't exist for several years. And that risk could be mitigated by requiring the user to retype their login credentials to confirm a transaction(and probably should be anyway).

I still think this whole thing about malicious people sneaking up to mess with other people's toons and accounts is a bit overblown.

Of course it can happen...but it doesn't happen everyday or to every person. Personally, I'm not all that worried about it changing or not...but the paranoia argument is still a bit wild.

No game company should be responsible for any other person's messed up personal life. If my ticked-off wife/girlfriend/family member decided to slip a centipede into my shoe while I was out of the room, I couldn't hold the shoe maker responsible for not putting a locking mechanism in place that closed the shoe the moment I took my foot out of it.

Yes, but the safeguard is *already* in place, and removing it is just a, well, silly idea. Especially since it takes, at most a minute to type in a password.

Pretty sure I never said I even have the problems people are claiming to have in this thread on either side of the argument.

All i said is every player should have the option to choose if they want to be able to log out to character select or not and that it should be selectable from ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT for security.

Maybe everyone so busy ranting against this proposal should bother reading it first.

I don't think a single person in favor of this has said it shouldn't be an option that people can enable or disable depending on their preference.

The problem with that is that the game will instantly auto-log-out any character that is currently logged in when you attempt to enter your password. Logging out to the log-in screen instantly will allow you to type in your password within about 10 seconds of logging out, thereby circumventing the countdown for the most part. Quitting to desktop is rather different, in that getting back into the game takes in the neighbourhood of 60 seconds anyway, and my machine isn't slow.
