Victory United Events Times & Meeting Logs
Dude, I like you, I had fun with you on that ITF a few days ago (I was Alecto Nox), and GL/HF with this-- but could you guys please stop making a new thread every time you have something new to say about this?
I'm just a holy fool, oh baby it's so cruel

I have to say.. I was at this little meeting last night and I was not impressed. Your pitch was bad, and no one really seemed to know who was making it besides Logan, and there were far too many people who were 'for it' but being so completely rude to anyone who had a question that didn't seem to go in the direction any of you liked.
Far too much "If you don't like it, then leave" attitudes. Not a good way to start off something that is supposed to 'unite' the server.
Really, you should have made the pitch here on the forums if anywhere at all, that way you could get out ALL the info you wanted without being interrupted at every turn. Once the first post was up, people could have their say and ask questions without feeling ignored simply because the chatter ate their questions or comments.
Overall, I have to say I don't understand the need for this. It was commented last night, and I will agree, that it looks like you're trying to make a new VB. We have 2 of those already. Things are formed in them all the time with little trouble. So I don't see why this would be necessary. I personally see no merit in joining one (or two) more global channels and still being met with similar indifference from most when something is forming. I see no reason to have MORE channels of chatter to watch and sift through for anything that may interest me.
And quite honestly, We do stuff nightly. TFs/SFs/Respecs/AE/even plain mission teams. And most often we toss it up in VB, or do random tells and fill teams. I see a lot of others to it too. Let's not even MENTION the Ship Raids we do.
Victory is by no means a dead server. It's only as dead as you allow it to be by not showing interest in whatever is forming. If you don't like what's forming, there is nothing to say you can't form something yourself.
Scheduled nights for things hosted by SGs is a good idea.. but again, I'm confused why anyone would need MORE channels and MORE webpages to watch. You want people to be more involved, yet the webpage you pointed everyone to is even stated to not focus on CoH/V, and people have to wait for it to be updated. Why not a Wiki that everyone can edit? Why not just use the forums? The forum is open to everyone in the game (unless they get banned) and if they don't look here, that's their choice. They still *can* if they're interested in what's going on, and word can easily spread.
Personally, NightShift and Shifted Night (Our SG and VG respectively) will continue to form TFs/SFs/Trials/AE/Mish teams/Ship Raids as we always do. I feel no need to sign up/join any other groups/pages/global channels or anything.
Victory is NOT dead. If you think it is, you're not putting yourself out there enough.
While I was unable to attend the meeting due to work, I have been brought up to speed on it by Zoe and by what you have written. I'm confused for the need for more channels or web pages, I agree that just using the forums or using VB and it's spillover channel would probably do just fine.
I personally belong to few channels, but the few I do are enough for me to keep up with. I don't see the need for more channels, I just think that people should use the ones so many of us are on as it is.
Also while I applaud the people who are willing to take on some scheduled server wide functions I wonder if it is too limited or too constricting for the people involved.
Part of the reason the NightShift and Shifted Night only do a bi-monthly Ship Raid is because we are aware people's schedules can be conflicted, or they may make prior arrangements for other things, or they may just plain out feel burned out. I worry that this idea may flourish at the beginning, but after a few weeks it will die due to stagnation and complacency.
I wish you the best in this idea, but again urge you and everyone to continue to look to VB and VB09 for group activities. That's why they are there.
I also urge anyone that is also willing to conduct their own ship raids (Just please, not on our nights, we post them here on the board for heads up too!) to consider checking out Zoe's excellent guide here.
Again, all the best.
Not only that, but for events of any sort, we have the PvPEC, and PERC doing their thing. Additionally, some of those nights are already full up for a lot of the Victory Forum regulars (Wednesday, for example, is Isolators), and do I see SANCTIONED farming?!
If you're trying to make a new organization of some sort, make sure your representatives are professional, using proper capitalism, punctuation, and spelling. Coming across as pretty non-professsional right now, which only makes me, personally, dislike where this is going, because if you're not serious enough to capitalize the beginning of your sentences or run your post through spell check...I don't know how serious you are about this.
I would just like to say that although I was unable to attend, I DO like the spirit in which this is intended! Now some folks have criticized the grammar, so I would like to offer a serviceable solution. If you would PM me in advance with the essence of what you want to say, I can respond with a writeup few will fret over. Clicking my signature will give a good example of my writing ability.
While I wish I could promise to attend events, my RL prevents me from that. I CAN promise to try however.
I am on no committee. My SGs (4 on Vic) aren't doing coalitions. And I lurk a lot more than I used to. However I will offer my aid and support as an individual and hope that others might follow the positive example.
It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.
As Thessalia, aka Alecto Nox, stated he has played in one of our groups before and had a good time. I do remember him as well. As far as the meeting went I do agree that it did not go as planed and appeared unprepared.
We to appreciate all forms of constructive criticism and all ideas!
1st off there were a lot of people there but as I could tell there were some people that wanted to help. If you would like to help you are always welcome to contact me on COH or these forums. (My COH global is Roadkill242)
2nd The people that were there that had questions were getting answers by the [Tell] system on COH. Most of this was not sent over broadcast so we could keep the logs clear for the meeting. Your concerns where good ones and we will try to make the changes for the next meeting. Since there were a lot of voices trying to be heard at the meeting but some where not able to read every thing do to some people talking. The best way to make sure you can read everything you need is to use the /ignore command.
3rd There has been a lot of people we have teamed with over the past few months, that have concerns about finding new people to team with. This is one of the reasons we have started this group. We will accept anyone that wants to join even if we need to make multiple teams so everyone can play. When there are more people then can join one team we will split into 2 teams or more so that we have the room to run there tasks. Leaving people out is not the way to go. We are here to allow everyone to join. If we are leaving one person out then we might as well leave every one out. I hope people will give us a chance to make a difference in Victory.
There are many opportunity's that are out there and we are not wanting to change your plans. We are just making more opportunity's for people that might not have plans. We understand people have to work and we understand that people will not be able to make every event. We are not looking for every one on the server to join all the events. We are looking for the ones that might want to join the event and show that we are making a differences. This is why we have found people that are open for the nights before posting them.
In other news: We are still working on the meeting places for each event. I am trying to get this information before Monday for every one.
I would also like to say thank you to ImpulseKing for his last post as well. I will PM you to help us out if you would like to help. Thank you.

[/ QUOTE ]Why answering questions in tells? wouldn't have just gotten the info out if it was done where everyone could see it? Let alone make it actually look like you were all addressing these questions instead of making it look like people were being ignored? That confuses me. I have to agree with some others that everything came off as overly secrative.
And again, people were asking who was in charge and kept getting shady answers. How could anyone /ignore people if they didn't know who they were supposed to be listening to?
We used the [Tell] so that we could keep the logs cleaner so we did not have to go though as much with the char we had on that was logging it also we should of try to broadcast it but there was so much chatter in the Pocket D it was hard to read.
Who is in charge of this? LoganXOwens came to as many SG leaders as he could to start this. At this point it is a combined efforts of all the people that are helping in this to have equal parts and say.
I have to say that i felt bad that so many people were talkin trash and such durring it but i have to say that the way the meeting was talked about should have gone better. Having people come to something that was a secret was going to fail either way. Every meeting or event has the people that go just to add trouble. I like the idea of this and hope that it does not cause for an elite group of higher up sgs to form. I think it is nice that someone is trying to give people set times for things and such but i will wait and see how things turn out. Best of Luck
If we where trying to keep the meeting details secret, we would not of posted what the meeting was about. We were trying to get people to help out with the events. We have had several people step up and say they are willing to help with the events. We have a few other things that people are wanting to help with like ImpulseKing wants to help with posting on the forums. We welcome all help we can get.

I don't see a reason for this. PERC exists, VB and VB09 exist. Maybe I'm just too observant, but I see more events happening on this server than I could possibly attend even if I wanted to attend them all.
Yet another channel for me to have to monitor? No thank you.
Use the forums to organize events - that is what they are there for. I fail to see what creating some mega-alliance of supergroups is going to accomplish except to make the organizers feel important.
This smacks of a solution looking for a problem.

[/ QUOTE ]I believe I understand your position. However I see no reason to attempt to dissuade ANYone from helping others enjoy their time on our home server. In my opinion helping others is not a "territory" to be guarded. Rather it's just being a good and decent neighbor. It's my firm belief this should be encouraged, as in the end, it helps us all.
Ok.. so soapboxes tend to sneak up on me. Don't laugh until it happens to you.
It's not how many times you get knocked down that count. It's how many times you get up.
I'm going to jump in here. I was not at the meeting, I was working, but seriously, why so much negativity? I think if people want to step up and promote events, thats great! I do not believe this group wants to replace PERC, PvPEC, or any of the larger super groups. I think people are just trying to make a larger group that is not exclusive. I am not saying there is anything wrong with being elite or only inviting players you know to events... that's common (especially on Victory). But I think that people who want a broader event spectrum to make things open to anyone should be encouraged, not discouraged. If you have too many channels, don't join another one, that's cool. Maybe this is just a chance for some more people to become leaders on Victory and for more people who are not in cliques (not using this as a bad term btw) to participate. I'm not going to get PERC involved with this as we have lots of our own stuff to do and I don't really think VU needs the help, but I do not feel like this group is trying to step on toes or anything, just promote more stuff on Victory. So.... have at, have fun. Running large scale events is not easy and I wish you the best of luck.

No one is trying to dissuade you from having fun on Victory (I think we all like our server and want other quality players to hang out with us). However, what everyone is saying is that what you are proposing already exists. If you have an event planned, post it on the forums. If it's a "Mega Event," work with PERC, the community mods, and the weekly newsletter to get the word out there.
And if you're doing something impromptu, use Victory Badges, Victory Badges 2009, and the Victory Forum channel to get things going. The best thing to do with any event is to use already established forms of communication (only making new ones when there is nothing already in place), as this guarantees that the biggest audience will hear your message. By trying to create new channels of communication when ones already exist, you're setting the bar for your communication to get out to your audience too high.
Guide: Tanking, Wall of Fire Style (Updated for I19!), and the Four Rules of Tanking

Synopsis: Explore the fine line between justice and vengeance as you help a hero of Talos Island bring his friend's murderer to justice.
Grey Pilgrim: Fire/Fire Tanker (50), Victory
Honestly, when/where was this announced?
This is the first mention of it I have seen..
It was announced here.
Agua Man lvl 48 Water/Electric Blaster
"To die hating NCSoft for shutting down City of Heroes, that was Freedom."
Ya i honestly didnt see it on forums until after the meeting. I check the forums daily and i didnt know about it until I heard "meeting in pocket D.....more will be explained at the meeting at eight. Victory united"
A meeting scheduled to plan events for the server is announced that same day? Sounds very ad-hoc to me.
Poor planning on an event to plan events is a bad way to start off.
Sheesh....serious business here I guess.
Some of you guys are waaaay too uptight.

I organize several TFs a week [1-2 a day], and in their log I was basically told I'm not doing enough.
I am sorry if i am offended by that.

You DO realize you're talking to Victory folks, right?
You know, it's been awhile since we had a new slogan for the server; we've got "Victory: we're better than Virtue!", and "Victory: the red-headed step-server".. something along the lines of "Victory: srns bsns"?

There. That's what I was trying to get at with my post, but it came out rather more negative sounding than I would have liked. Resources exist to accomplish the goals of Victory United, and I feel we could be better served as a community if we worked to make the existing resources work better rather than trying to create even MAOR resources.

05-15-2009 20:12:53 [Request] Logan X. Owens: well Im going to tell you all what this is about in due time. but 1st I would like to point out a few things
05-15-2009 20:13:44 [Request] Logan X. Owens: #1 as we can all look around and see that the victory server has slowly become dead and hard to find teams or people doing much of anything
05-15-2009 20:14:48 [Request] Logan X. Owens: #2 we here at Victory United, a lot of people that has come together to bring you all events and fun things to do on a nightly basis

Added for question: No we are adding new channel and making it so every one can join. (we are in the process of opening it up for every one.)
05-15-2009 20:17:36 [Request] Logan X. Owens: now I have pulled a lot of people together to help me get this going and I am looking for more people to help back us on this and to just simply come and have fun
05-15-2009 20:17:37 [Local] Blitz Auggen: Isnt that what PERC is?

05-15-2009 20:22:13 [Request] Logan X. Owens: now yes a lot of these events are hosted by SGs that we may or may not know of
05-15-2009 20:22:35 [Request] Logan X. Owens: but so everyone knows this is not a way to get people to join said SGs

05-15-2009 20:24:38 [Broadcast] Mirror Maiden: Or invite only?
05-15-2009 20:24:46 [Request] Logan X. Owens: i dont believe so. should be open for all to talk on. now we will have two channels for this

05-15-2009 20:25:27 [Broadcast] Brierley: How many SGs are incorporated into this group? Are there any ideas to expand, and if so, what are the requirements to do so?

05-15-2009 20:25:56 [Request] Logan X. Owens: we are looking for as many people to join in on helping with that as we can get
05-15-2009 20:26:30 [Broadcast] Snowy Blitz: Their point is to unite those channels. That way people can get together easier.
05-15-2009 20:26:34 [Request] Logan X. Owens: yes there is but where we come in at is #1 these channels will be for the event nights that we planed
05-15-2009 20:27:42 [Request] Logan X. Owens: yes it will we are working getting everything opened up for everyone
05-15-2009 20:27:46 [Request] Snowy Blitz: Essentially, they are trying to create a channel to bring together all the Victory Channels. They are offering events and planned missions and such. You could easily find team mates, and easily join a group. Thats what they are trying to get to.
05-15-2009 20:28:28 [Broadcast] Snowy Blitz: They aren't forcing anyone to leave anything.. Simply putting out a proposition.
05-15-2009 20:29:05 [Request] Logan X. Owens: there is no reason we as a server can not all work together and come together to help one another and have fun at the same time
05-15-2009 20:29:33 [Broadcast] Novamaiden: isn't this just a new, maybe larger clique of select supergroups. I say that being part of one of those select groups mind you

05-15-2009 20:29:38 [Broadcast] Blitz Auggen: why not get in touch with the PERC reps
Added for question: We are in contact with PERC (We have been talking to them about this as well on the forums using PM)
05-15-2009 20:30:30 [Request] Logan X. Owens: yes they do and we are trying to work with them on this as well
05-15-2009 20:31:13 [Request] Logan X Owens: 7pm BadgeTuesday Night Hosted by: Statesmans Champions
05-15-2009 20:31:42 [Request] Logan X Owens: Wednesday 8pm Hero Task Force Night Hosted by: Justice International
05-15-2009 20:32:26 [Broadcast] Death God' Alucard: we should attack the rikti ship with this group
05-15-2009 20:32:53 [Request] Logan X. Owens: well that is apart of the idea in the long run
05-15-2009 20:33:19 [Request] Enchantress: First, how can my SG contribute? Likewise, I kinda worry that this is going to turn into a hierarchy of SGs and players. If my SG contributed, could we expect equal treatment?
05-15-2009 20:33:52 [Request] Logan X. Owens: everyone gets equal treatment
05-15-2009 20:34:01 [Request] Logan X. Owens: thats the 1st thing i want to make clear
05-15-2009 20:34:11 [Request] Logan X. Owens: we are all on the same level here
05-15-2009 20:34:41 [Request] Enchantress: Im a sociologist by training, you have to understand that it always concerns me about who is in control of communication, albeit channels in this case
05-15-2009 20:34:57 [Request] Enchantress: However, I am interested in learning how my SG can contribute
05-15-2009 20:35:48 [Request] Logan X. Owens: well the easiest way is to just show up to the events and help the people running the events give them ideas for how to run the event as like badge night
05-15-2009 20:36:45 [Request] Logan X. Owens: everyone will be welcomed on to the channel. as for the victory united channel i would like to keep that one just for the event coordinators
05-15-2009 20:37:07 [Request] Logan X. Owens: that way we can talk about the events and how to best run them and what would be the most fun for the most people
05-15-2009 20:38:33 [Request] Lady Gale: Enchantress, I went to the 1st meeting as a guest and then became involved. I went to Logan with my concerns and in 24 hours the concerns I had were addressed and fixed
05-15-2009 20:39:58 [Request] Logan X. Owens: all info will be out in the open for all to see at all times
05-15-2009 20:40:09 [Request] Logan X. Owens: this is where a website comes in to play
Added for question: www.CityofGamers.Net and https://boards.cityofheroes.com/ under the Victory Topic.
05-15-2009 20:40:42 [Request] Logan X. Owens: we have been working on getting a site better setup for this so it feels more open to everyone
05-15-2009 20:41:27 [Request] Desire For Fire: who are the leaders?
Added for question: There are no Leaders! Closest thing to leaders are coordinators that are leading the events. We will not be pushing any SuperGroup even though we have one.
