McDonnell here. I had a "blast" helping you guys kill Fakes last night. I cannot make the TF tonight, but I will try to remember to come thursday for the Midnighter arc, I'll probably bring a scrapper next time. McDonnell doesnt need the midnighter arc.

mus Muris here. I just wanted to thank everyone for the great team and their help in the adventure of getting the Freedom Phalanx Reserve Member Badge. Little Miss Pom Poms especially was welcoming and reassuring as our leader.

I had come off a bad day at work and this team and the people so generous with their time really turned that day around. I really appreciate it and look forward to participating in future events and helping out where I can.

I am giving recognition to the people that joined the events. Because without the people that joined our events we would not have so much fun.

May I ask what the criteria is for the random tells you send out for events are? Though I'm guessing given that you were killing fakes for the badge that you were wanting my 50 to farm fakes for someone...

I would like to try and help You understand why it is I send the tells out every night for the events.

1st I send the tells so everyone has a chance to find out about the events

2nd When you get a tell from me it is not that im asking Your 50 if that was the toon you was on at the time. I was simply asking you as a person if you would like to join the events. So if you had a lvl 1 you would have wanted to get these badges on we would have been more then happy to help you.

Anyhow i hope that will help you understand it a little better.

You do understand this has the added effect of annoying a significant portion of the player base?

I appreciate what you folks are trying to do and support it. I am all for folks organizing events for the entire community.

I also personally find it annoying to get some random tell when I'm in the middle of something. I feel obligated to read said tell and respond to it so I don't come off as rude or unappreciative (I do that well enough on my own.) To find out it's a tell about some event I already read about on the forums, chose not to sign up for, and could not attend anyways because I'm in the middle of something else. Frankly it's very annoying. You have access to 3 global channel, ALL of which I monitor.

All these tells do is make me not want to join any event you're sponsoring. When this organizations name comes up I think, "Oh yeah, those annoying folks who send redundant tell."

I actually don't mind the tells, sometimes if I am busy I end up not responding to Logan other times I have. I do think however, it make be more productive for Victory United to position a few "broadcasters" at various train stations, then Broadcast your event:

"Tonight Victory United will be hosting a XXXX, it is open for anyone lvl X-X, please send a tell to @XXXX for more info. Thank you for your attention"


Do that in all the different zones, and you will get your message across to 85% of the server population except those in danger zones or zoning at the time of the broadcast.

Its not always monitored but arena and help chat goes to both sides as well and is a possible way of communicating a server wide event.

I don't mind the tells either. I appreciate you letting people know about your events so they have the opportunity to get involved if they want to. Sure, the tells are going to annoy some (it's just one tell a night, right?), but it's an effective way to reach the majority of the people logged in to the server.

This is obviously being done through game search. So, IMO, it all depends if a) someone is using their search flags and b) if the searcher is following the search flags.

Every one of my characters hides from search for a reason, the biggest being b) is almost never used correctly

Agreed with Masque and MP. As long as you only send one tell and as long as you do not expect a response, no harm, no foul. It's just not a big deal. I think it is good that you guys are working so diligently towards this. Also... what is someone is not on the global channels or not monitoring them? Or what if someone is solo in a mission and would not see broadcast but might like to come? I have not attended any events yet, but I appreciate the opportunity to.

There's usually a good reason for this.

There's a difference between sending a tell to someone one who signed up/expressed interest in an event as a friendly reminder and sending everyone you can find the exact same tell announcing the event. The latter ranks right up there with Gagora emails, IMHO.

Less than 10% of the player base reads the forums. Each global channel only holds at max 2500 players... hence why we needed to make VB 2009. I don't think that there are only 2500 players on Victory. Anyways... my point is, they want to get people involved, it's a good thing. It's just one short message, which you do not need to respond to. Someone who does not know about an event cannot express interest in it.

When I send someone a tell, I expect them to read it and to respond it. If they don't, I assume to don't like/don't want to hear from me so I write them off. I hold myself to the same standard. If you send me a PM or a tell, I take the time read it and to respond.

Not everyone will bother to say anything. It's not worth the hassle, simpler just to put folks on ignore.

Pretty much in the same boat on this one. I hadn't lumped him in with the rest of the RMTers, PL beggers, etc because I hoped he would start using less annoying methods rather than begging people to come to an event through tells.

ok i see alot of the point's i would make and i see alot of good idea's and i still see that people can not see the full idea behind this.

Look i would love to not have to send 300 plus tells a night and bug people that would not want to be bothered with our little idea's

But the bottom line is very simple. I can not get the message to everyone (And just for the ones that may not know this really is for EVERYONE). But the only way to do this is to hit all the channels to send the tell's.

Now about the tell's them self's.

#1 The tells are NOT random i look and see if someone would not like to be bothered I.E in search window them being marked not to bother

#2 I can not keep track of everyone i send tells to. in prefect world i would. but we do not live in a prefect world

#3 We are not begging for people to join the events we are simply letting everyone knows about the events I.E the ones that do not read the forums that are not part of the channels that maybe loading that maybe in a zone that we are not.

If you want think of my tells are a admin message if i was able i would love to be able to do a simple admin message across the server at one time. but i can not

I will say, sometimes I get tells when I'm in the costume editor or respeccing, or just when I've walked away for a few minutes. I try to respond to everything once I realize it, but there are times when I just miss tells here and there. Doesn't always mean the person is ignoring you deliberately.

(On a side note, part of me wishes we could get timestamps on some of these things, too.)

You've been presented with alternatives, in this very thread. I didn't post to annoy you or make fun of your methods. My post was to inform you I find your tells annoying. I suspect I'm not the only person. This seems counter productive to what you are trying to do, but you seem content with being placed on ignore.

Well your right in some ways but here is where i stand.

But see there has not been one alternative that will make sure everyone that is on the server gets a chance to find out. and when i say everyone i mean all 100% of the people that is on the server at the time of the event

Its fair. or so i think so. that no one is left out just do to the simple fact that they are not on the forums or the channels or in the right zones or watch channels so no. no one has given me a 100% sure fire way to get the word out to everyone other then the way i am doing it now.

So the only other way i know to try and make everyone as happy as humanly as possible is to offer them away to not see what it is i have to say. It is clear that said people do not wish or do not agree or like the ways i have found to make this fair to everyone.

But with that said I am not going to stop simply due to a few that do not agree with it. It would not be fair to the so many that enjoy the events

But your wrong about one thing if there was away around being blocked by people then i would take it. But as i said there is no other way that gets the word too 100% of the server the way that i do

Um... no?, unless you have a different definition of "marked not to bother". One would think that either the flag of "you are not looking for a group", or [u]already being on a team[u] would equate to "marked not to bother".
