    Thanks Victory

Oh wow. The news was certainly not what I wanted to hear over Dragon*Con, especially when certain friends were absent this year! But I suppose that's how it goes.

So many great memories! (and I'm sure I'm at the center of some not so great ones too )

To everyone who was involved with the Night Shift/Shifted Night SG/VG and coalition, thanks for everything! That was where I got my real start in the game, though it was Mae who actually got me into it in the first place <3

To those who moved beyond the coalition and moved into Global Shift, you guys kick tail. Seriously, ya'll better keep in touch!

I made so many friends here, several of which I know I will see in the years to come as usual (Dragon*Con group <3333)

Honestly,. I have a lot to thank CoH for, including the relationship I have with Valdy. Though we knew each other before the game, it served as the medium that allowed us to really get to know each other.

Victory might not have been the first or even the only server I played on.. but it was my home. Every 50 I have dinged on Vic, even if the lesser payed ones were moved to make room for new alts.

It's the end of an era and I has a sad.
  2. Best wishes to him, his family and friends. Victory suffers the loss of one of the best.
  3. There is a specific guy you have to speak to at each tailor. It confused me too when I first went to see.
  4. The group that I regularly play with uses Ventrillo quite a bit. We prefer it when we're running TFs and such.. I'd rather people talk than stop unexpectedly and type, because they can keep doing what they need to do, and I don't have to read while I'm trying to keep up with my targets that they're KBing

Seriously though, it's just easier, so long as the people you play with don't mind doing it and can do it. Thing is, if you have some people on vent/TS and some who aren't.. well, make sure that when you need to give instruction, it's done for both groups

On the personal side of things, I like the camaraderie it brings. Joking around on vent is a lot more fun than in text! ...usually lol

    Server jumping

There is no way to currently jump an account from EU to NA or vice versa. To play on the NA servers, they would have to start a new account with an NA version of the game.
  7. I think I'm going to move a few. Not sure on which ones yet except for two, one because I want to free up her name to use on Victory again, and one because I don't play her much but I can't delete 50s..

Mostly I'll be moving stuff to free up room, but it's nice to have some 50s spread around to take part in events and such on other servers.

Hmm. I usually take the Axe. But I don't use it for normal gameplay. I like having it for when I run into ghosts. I have a very select few chars with sands, and I rarely is every use it either. I get more use out of the Axe.

    To each their own.

    Interactions

Ok, obvious question: Are you in a populated area? Some servers are less populated than others, so some areas may seem 'dead'. If you're in the tutorial, there are some servers I have never run across a second person while there. Galaxy City as a starting point is also usually fairly quiet. On villains, you will usually see a few people in Mercy, but again, sometimes the tutorial is empty most of the time on some servers)

Also, the time of day you log in will effect player load on less populated servers. I play mostly on Victory, and the heavy load there is in the evening between 6pm and 12pm est. Some servers have a higher count of players in other countries and may have a sustained load at odd times. (Note that I cannot comment on European servers, as I have never played on them)

Sometimes you will be out of sync with the server and you will not see baddies, other players or NPCs. If you think this may be the problem, hit /sync in your chat window and it will attempt to resync you to the server.

If you're unsure the game is working properly, you can always make a toon on Freedom (assuming you're on the US servers) and load into Atlas Park. if you don't see anyone there, then something is wrong. (but I doubt it is)
  10. I'm pretty sure these are the updated requirements for most, if not all of the Villain Accolades. (I say 'most, if not all' because I know for certain many of them were updated, but I do not have the opportunity at the moment to check them all)

    Villain Accolades
  11. respeccing your character will allow you to re-choose the powers you chose, but you cannot pick a new primary or secondary set for your character. You can, however, choose different pool powers, as those are not locked into your character as your primary and secondary are.

    More info here!
  12. You will not be able to use one account to play on both server sets.

You need to get a EU copy of the game to play on EU servers, and it will not allow you to play on US servers. Alternatively, you need a US version to play on US servers, and it will not allow you to play on the EU servers.

Your physical location doesn't matter, however. What matters is what version of the game you get.

Is there a hunt before the mission itself?

What contact is the mission from?

IMO it's just how you look at it. I have 'Heroes' who are redside, and 'Villains' who are blueside.

Basically any of the content is interchangeable with a few small twists in the wording. I mean, kidnaps redside are just like rescues blueside. Or you can ignore the given story and make up your own, which is also interesting to me from time to time.

I mean.. there is no place that needs a few Heroes more than the RI right?
  15. From my observation (IE: no real numbers or statistics behind it) it always seems like there are more Heroes than Villains.

From what I have heard/read of people who play more Blue than red, the most common reasons seem to be:
Heroes runs better on their computer than Villains.
It's easier to find teams Heroside.
They started with Heroes, and can't adjust to or don't like the Villain ATs.
Their friends play more Heroside than Villain, so they go where their friends are.
Heroes has more content/better content. (this often applies to late game content I believe)

Personally, I love Villains, but my Heroes still outnumber my Vils. I like running TFs/SFs, and the TFs are just more abundant than SFs.
  16. Looks like it's yours. IMO, do what you want with it. You have no idea if he's coming back or not, which is what the auto promotion and auto demotion is set up for.

I won't say that he can't come back and cause an issue.. I mean, I help run a group vil-side which we inherited in a more direct fashion.. but one of the 'original creators' came back to the game after a few years hiatus and got angry because we wouldn't give the group back to him. But really, it was all the work of those people who had been in the group and active, so IMO dude had no real claim to it. I mean geeze. I'm the one who made the base the group currently uses.

Anyhow, dude got so PO'd that we wouldn't give it back, he quit the group. Less hassle for us. Things run smooth as ever now.
  17. Yes. Even going back to the tailor to fix it does not seem to work at this time.

/bug it and wait I guess.

Eh, I didn't really intend it as negative. I use my observances to be prepared. To me, negative is to just flat refuse to bother with people. I consider it a positive to give everyone the opportunity, regardless of how others speak of them, what powers they have, their choice of name, how many vet badges they have, etc... But one person says something one way, another says it differently, right?

I want to say I'm not prejudice, but I believe that everyone is in some way. It's how you deal with it that is important.

Considering how unreliable participant observation can be, saying you're "just reporting what I've observed" doesn't change the fact that you're drawing conclusions from a very small and unrepresentative sample.

If you want to be helpful to the OP, talking about what you see as the relative advantages or disadvantages of Fly and SJ would actually be useful. Saying "Most of the tanks I've seen with Fly suck" is certainly not.
I did not say that. And I said multiple times that it was just what I have seen. I also mentioned that I have seen it work, so I know that it can, and give a recommendation, based on what the OP stated.

I never said I drew any conclusions on anything. I believe you are reading something in my posts that was not intended when I wrote them. Again, i apologize if I do not explain myself well enough.

So. Flat out, advantages and disadvantages that I have seen? Don't use FLY while fighting. If intending to get hover, don't be afraid to use it, just learn to toggle it as needed so you can get the most out of your power choices, INCLUDING hover.

Saying I prefer SJ was just my opinion. Does my opinion really matter to the OP? It probably shouldn't. I do not claim to know everything about the game. I know what works for me and how I play.

Is there an overall combat advantage to jump over flight? Perhaps. It depends on the player. For me, CJ gives me more maneuverability in combat than hover, so I can cover more ground and manage my aggro better. To others it might not offer the same advantage.

    Did that help better?

Loved the "I don't mean to X, but X" statement. Those are always so funny when they pop up.

So, is tp or ss better? Jumping has CJ which keep the kb down, but that should be handled by a toggle [which CJ is actually.]

How is the way a Tank commutes making it inferior? I'm really curious how not having the other pools are better.
Well funny thing is, I have quit teams when team leaders have refused to allow people on said team because of their power choices. This is not something I personally do, and these days I am usually leading a team, on a team one of my friends are leading, and they mostly have the same views i do on allowing everyone a fair chance.

Again.. I only mention hover because the OP did. Personally I don't care how a tank gets to the mission, unless they're one of those who who refuses to get out of granite even to travel, has not taken TP to get around while in granite, and demands someone TPs them everywhere. I was commenting on use of flight pool in combat, specifically hover.

I don't check powers before teaming with people, so usually I notice their powers in battle. When you have teamed with 5 tanks who fly, and of those, 4 of them were stupid enough to FLY (Not hover, but actually FLY) during combat, with no thought to shut it off, and apparently no thought to reduce end use on fly, or perhaps any of their other powers, and run out of end in the middle of a fight, what would you do?

I do not assume anyone is bad at what they do until they show that they are. I laugh because I remember the morons of the past. I prepare for the worst because I do not feel that the team should suffer if one person happens to do something I have observed in the past. That's just how I am. I make myself ready to compensate for a potential hole that would not normally be on a team when I team with my SG and/or players I am accustomed to. It's the same thing I do on any PUG, whether or not there is someone on the team with questionable choices or not. Why? Because more often than not *in my experience* (and that is the key here) on a PUG with 2-7 people I don't know, at least one of them will be a moron. I compensate.

So why PUG? Because it challenges me as a player in a way that Master runs do not. I enjoy it. But again, it's a blanket statistic based on what I have observed.

I really never meant to say that all tanks who take fly are morons. I do not believe I said that. But I may not have explained my position well enough. I apologize if that is the case.

Although I personally don't enjoy fighting while using Hover, and I wouldn't recommend it for sets with attacks that require being on the ground, you say yourself that it can work. Assuming that someone who takes Fly is going to be a sub-par tank is just baseless stereotyping.
No. Baseless sterotyping would be those people who toss it out as a 'rookie move' and refuse to team with a person before they know if they can use it or not. As I said, I never deny anyone the opportunity to show what they can do.

I can only remark on what I have observed. Again, there is no "All of X are morons" with me, because unless I have seen 'all of X' I cannot say that they all are. I'm only remarking on those I have see, and most of them were.. not good at all. Was it because they took flight? Not always, but sometimes. Some just never learn how to use it to their advantage. Some use it very well to their advantage.

And I only spoke of hover because the OP mentioned it. I never said it they had to take it.

Not really assuming they can't, just that *most* that i have seen can't. I never deny someone the chance to participate based on power choices. I actually love running into those seemingly rare cases where people do well with something I see as 'unconventional' to the general populace.

Blanket statistic really. I observe, I track information. It's just like most of the stalkers I have played with are pretty useless, but there are those who take the AT and really shine with it. I don't say "All X are morons", but it's more a case of.. prepare for the worst and hope for the best i guess
  23. I've seen a few tanks with flight. My usual first response is to laugh, then to shore up knowing there was going to be extra work for the rest of the team.

    ......

Once or twice though.. I was really surprised. I saw one guy who was so good at switching in and out of hover to use his crowd control powers, maneuver, etc... he made me want to try it myself.

I would suggest making a bind or a macro to easily turn hover on and off, which is what I usually do on any char I go the flight route on.

Personally, I prefer SJ.. but I think if you're diligent enough, you can swing flight.

This mostly. TF badges not so much, I look for defeat badges, and other badges that normally people tend to pick up along normal play to 50. That is not to say they're not good players, as I know people who have PLd spare toons to 50, but know very well how to play those toons, despite lack of use.

Vet badges don't bother me one way or another... I've seen people with more vet badges than me who have no clue how to do anything.

Normally I look at the description of any toon that looks interesting to me, be it because of costume or name. Mostly I'm disappointed to see they have no description. lol

I try not to judge players by badges, names or description (or lack thereof), but I WILL judge a player by how they play. If someone quits a TF/SF with a valid reason, ok, that's understandable. But I make notes of it, and anything else, like if they had some issue about following directions or had really good tactics, was sociable, fun, or whatever. Over a few times of teaming with someone, my notes give me a better idea of that player.

Player notes is one of the best features they've added to the game. I make use of it often.
  25. Am I the only one that uses the icons to time buffs? Never had any problems with it either.

Needing a separate program to help me time my powers just seems.. excessive.
