A final, maybe stickieable, word on farming?

Welp, after the personal attacks while trying to get a point from the poster, I have instituted what I kept encouraging the poster do. I utilized my ignore button.

Demonstration of my suggestion in action.

He was missing categories in the first post, these are attitudes I've seen in the many farming threads. Right, wrong or relevant it is a point of view on this issue that people have. I avoided the inflammatory versiona like mentioning "the Jones."

People have fuzzy set points for things like this. Whether it's gaining levels twice as fast is too much or five times is fast. It's a very common attitude in the world, and it rears itself in various guises. It's the key reason why in the Prisoner Dilemma there are zero outcome results.

Certainly isn't my point of view. And while rarely useful to argue with it, an MMOG does well to keep it in mind and make sure advantages have the appearance of relatively equal gain for equal effort. People will quit a game if they perceive others are using cheat codes, etc. whether it impacts their play or not.

1. Cassandra Corte holds that the way other people play the same game is causing her to be frustrated with the game, thus ruining her ability to have fun in that game. She is also frustrated with the attitude that players who do something she does not personally like take (namely that they shouldn't have to change their behavior at all, regardless of the fact that said behavior is a cause of frustration for certain other players), because she believes that, as adults, other people should be forced to change their behavior because she seems to be unable to control or deal with her own frustration.

Fixed that for you, Cassandra. Seems to fit better...

[Inigo] You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. [/Inigo]

I also suggest you look up the phrase "pot calling the kettle black". You may find it enlightening. Or not...

Some of your previous comments referring to the "farm" crowd, otherwise known as people who play in a different way than you do:

Despite what the Farmheads keep saying

To all you hairballs

because you jerks are ruining the server

"just a game" isn't a reason to piss all over other people.

While I am sure this seems to you to be an amazingly witty and sardonic comment to make, since you keep repeating it in just about every thread where people disagree with you, in reality it does not make you come across as very "grownup" or mature at all. Just the opposite, in fact.

I suspect that many of the folks who have a position that is different than yours, are also mature, successful adults. It may make you feel better to dismiss them as "kiddies", but it doesn't make your position any more correct.

All you've done in just about every one of these threads is exaggerate and rant about how "farming" is ruining the game for you. Nearly every one of the things you have said is the complete opposite of my experience in the game since Issue 14 came out.

I have had ZERO problems forming or joining teams of any type since MA went live. I get tells quite often out of the blue asking if I would like to join regular mission teams, or taskforces. Amusingly, I have not gotten more than a handful from strangers that were asking about farming teams.

Sometimes I even get requests for things that I do not want to do, perhaps because I am already involved in something, or it is for something I don't particularly like to do. When this happens, it does not become something that " frustrates me and causes me to want to pull my hair out", as you said that farming does to you.

If I am running around the Shard working on False Nems for the badge, do I get frustrated and "want to pull my hair out" if I get a tell asking me to join a team running a level 50 Carnie arc? Nope...

If I'm in the middle of a TF and I get a tell from a level 22 fire blaster asking me if there is room on the team for them, do I get frustrated and "want to pull my hair out"? Nope...

If I'm running through Atlas Park while doing a mission and I see a bunch of chatter in broadcast, do I get frustrated and "want to pull my hair out"? Nope...

And if I am running a farm mission, and someone asks me to join their mission team in Croatoa, do I get frustrated and "want to pull my hair out"? Still nope...

I don't let other people's behavior affect me or my state-of-mind, any more than absolutely necessary. (BTW, that approach works wonders in real life too)

Are there obvious exploits available in MA that tip the reward scale too far to one side? Yes. And most of the farming crowd acknowledges that. But this "debate" was never about that anyway, it has been about beating the same old tired horse, just with a bit more drama and lots more tears.

Agreed.. This smacks too much of the "others have more than me, and they shouldn't" attitude.

I am glad that this has FINALLY surfaced. This is the root source of much of the angst that has been displayed in all of these threads. People wanting to control others and keep them from having more than they have.

I remember this from childhood.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Thank you, you are able to state the same thing with much more civility than I could have managed.

heres an example for the whiners.

I got on a farm, got to 32. Then stopped going to farms.

holy crap you can do it too.

Yes, you can farm to 20....since stamina less is quite unpleasant.....and quit going to farms. YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL or not since it seems you anti farmers lack any sort of impulse control.

You could form your own teams, or sit around and whine for the devs to do something about AE......

You could solo and set your flag to not accepting invites....or sit around and whine for the devs to do something.....

You could sit around and whine for the devs......but in the end its your own damn fault that you are unhappy.

Anti farmers, L2p. Learn impulse control. Learn to take control

Tl;dr because youre an anti farm crybaby: quit crying, go play. its okay

Straw Man: The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position.

Nice try, but what it comes down to is that you want to control how other people play the game via your complaints about what frustrates you personally. You are selfish, it is that simple, and you try to cover it with a pose of erudition.

I personally recommend Zen Buddhism for the poster who made the "the adults are talking" comment. Its a great way to master excessive (and unsightly) pride, and you'll be a happier person for it.
Best wishes

I think it's amusing that Rooster Teeth knew fairly quickly what a huge chunk of people would try to use the MA for.
