Issue with the Super Booster Magic Pack

Also you can only use long capes. I bet if they changed it so you could only use short capes it wouldn't clip much. My scarf only clips in the bottom left corner on rare occasions, and "Fringe" doesn't clip at all.

Hey folks,

I've checked in with all the powers that be and we have pleaded the community case. This bug is not cosmetic it is a performance related issue and unfortunately we cannot leave it live.

Just wanted to clarify that point.

That sucks. No, that blows. Blows chunks like a jet engine going through a flock of geese.

A couple of my characters have that scarf and coat, which looks hella nice.

Performance issue? How so? I am aware that at some point, the powers that be decided that players should only get one cape. I think lag was a factor- too many players using multiple capes would be bad, mmkay?

But I'm sure that since that was decided, alot of computers have gotten more powerful, enough that some fancy costumes won't bugger the works.

This change sucks, big time.

Awwww...I know I mentioned the bug on other threads but I have to agree that I like it a lot. Any chance we can take a poll to see if the community can live with the performance hit whatever it is assuming it doesn't cause the servers on y'alls side to explode or something else bad and its just a possible slightly lower frame rate from having to process a possible large number of people having double capes? I can see the elegant borelo going VERY well with the wedding pack bridal veil to make some awsome weding outfits and the scarf and short fringed cape look great with it as well. Some kind of compromise on it?

I noticed the bug before and found it rather annoying, but now that I see what some people have done with it, I have to agree -- fix it if there's a performance issue, but if there's any way to restore the Magic Bolero + High Collar Cape option, please do!

A possiblit: I would say it's more of a server performance issue then player. Might be that the server has to do more work with more capes. And that slows them down if there's too many. No matter where they be

That seems unlikely. A few players having double capes shouldn't be an issue, and all cape movement is based on animation files, not physics, so it's essentially a couple instances of the same animation running simultaneously.

But I'm not a dev and I'll cheerfully admit this is all conjecture.

Yeah but how long will it be before "A few Players" become the majority?

Posted

And not all players are going to be doing this, just to head off the argument of "but what if everyone wants to do it?".
For starters, the costume pieces in question are all extras which have to be purchased- not everyone will do this. And of those who do, not everyone wants to layer the bolero and cape like that. So it will probably always be a minority of players doing this, even if it is left alone.

Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, or if this has been posted before, and not even sure if this would be considered a bug.

One of the fortunes that can be granted makes the recipient take self damage. That's fine. The issues comes to play in Recluse's Victory. If someone has that particular fortune on them, is defeated and goes to the hospital, the fortune will stay persistent on the player for the 20 minutes and then defeat the player again and again unless they use an inspiration to offset the damage before their regen kicks in. (At least this was the case for a controller. Other ATs may not experience this issue).

Now, is this something that slipped through or working as intended? (A friend sent a bug report in game but I happen to see this thread and figured I'd mention it here as well).

It's actually because of a budget. It's the computational badget for all of the various effects in the game. Even down to the static costume pieces. Check out how the new longier hair styles, suits, skirts, et al cling and move with the body. It takes computation time either from the processor and/or video card to render them.

They have target hardware specfications which sets the total processing available, they have a maximum number of complex MOBs they will be rendered. Divide the first by the second. And that gives you the total cycles avaiable to render your character. That's the budget they have to worth within. Capes in motion eat a lot of cycles. Evidently 2 mores chews up most if not all of the per character budget.

I'd love to have more complex costumes and multple auras. But I'd rather not have my Nvida 9800GT video card sounding like a jet engine turbine for just walking to City Hall in Atlas Park.

I've found there are instances where the costume chance animation doesn't work, my character just sits there for a few seconds then changes costume, with no "ooomph!" to it.

I think this may be related to using the mission architect computer but I am unsure.

Then can there please please please be a collar w/ no cape option? that would keep some of the costume awesomeness intact without the double caping occuring.

Shift the mantle and high collar to a shoulder option perhaps?

...I'd also like to mention that I'd love to be able to get the High Collar cape without the collar - just the mantle (the shoulder part) - but no the actual collar.

This. The costume parts and emotes are awesome. Great work.

Buuuuut is it possible to get the High Collar cape without the collar? Make the High Collar a separate shoulder piece, or have there be like a options to have either just the Collar or just the cape?

Okay-

The shoulder fur needs to go in the shoulder section- NOT attached to the bolera thing. (Or both) I only wanted the shoulder fur, and I don't want to have to deal with it being attached to a trench coat thing that gives my stalker a stubby tail. And what the hell is up with the stupid stubby tails?! I thought those things got nixed a lonnnnnnng time ago as they were STUPID.

Clipping issues be damned!!

Ex, I understand you asked and the PTB said "No," but there are those among us who would like a more...technical... explanation if there is one to be had. This is not the only way currently available to players to have two animated pieces (like trench/cape/veil/whatever) and having run these "exploits" if they can be called such has never visibly impacted my system.

whoa whoa why? why is that a problem?

the magic bolero is a COAT, not a cape...and it looks perfectly fine with a cape on it, that's actually the only reason i like the magic pack, and the only reason i spent money on it. It's also the only reason i look even half unique as all the other female toons wearing the bolero.

why do you need to fix something if it isn't hurting anybody? it's giving us more for our money since you failed to add in the flyposes we were promised.

and I've checked on all of the characters I have, the only thing that's been released soon that did ANYTHING to the powers or the performance of the game was the MA.

I've also checked on my comp that runs on the minimum graphics requirements for this game, and the double cape on my blaster works fine.

capes can not and will not HURT the game, only people with low graphics cards...and if they DO have low graphics cards, they shouldn't have their quality settings on high.

I will not have any use for the magic pack if I'm forced to wear the bolero by itself like every other character I've seen with it.

i meant the new ones =\ I saw posts from devs saying they were adding a flying carpet one and a hover one for the magic pack =P I'm not upset about the flyposes at all, I just really like the capes and wings on top of the coat.
