WHITE QUEEN (3D Marvel stuff in Poser)

Several people have mentioned the youthfulness of the face. I'd like to explain a little further;

I met a woman online named Becky. I don't know her well and I've never met her in person, but I've learned that Becky used to be overweight and geeky to the point of being teased. A lot. Over the last couple of years, she has dedicated herself to a healthy lifestyle and has really shaped up - she now regularly models as various superheroes at conventions, but her favorite is Emma Frost. I chose to feature her as the face model in this piece, in part, to celebrate her success in turning her life around.

If you google 'Becky "aktrez" Young', you'll see her in several of her costumes. so while the face isn't as old, or strong, or severe as Emma Frost might need to be, it mattered to me more to feature Becky as she looks now.

She loves the piece. That's what mattered most to me.

Damn, Doug. You've elevated yourself to a whole new level of coolness with that. That girl looks smokin', to have this piece be inspired by her just makes it THAT MUCH better.

Outstanding.

Now that ... is reason enough for me ... and it makes it all that more worth while.

So ... its a perfect choice! (Mr. Drawer will probably have some other profesionnal opinion on it but that is mine!)

Generally a fan of Doug's material, and this is really a nice work also. Well done.

OTOH, it doesn't work for me as the White Queen. I can't put my finger on why though...

Dz131,

Everyone else is right. No one in here asked for a critique. If you wanted to give your opinion on Doug's work, you should have gone to DA. There you can be as you please art-wise.

Here, it is mostly good job stuff and that's it. We like to make each other feel good about what we're doing. If you can't handle that and feel compelled to be a downer for which we didn't ask for, then please, go else where.

Trust me, I know these people and bringing poop to their party will only get you mobbed. They like this area as drama free as possible. Respect their wishes or move on. You'll be outnumbered on this and you will lose.

Just saying...

That's REALLY awesome of you, Doug. Special personal touches like that trump established norms any day! Thanks for sharing that with us.

Isn't that the same person who said I spelled Reigndance wrong?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes.

He has mis-interpreted many of the details of the piece (such as her placement on a dais in the middle of a giant sphere and the consoles being articulated to move up and down), but it's easier to just ignore him.

He has the right to dislike my art, and I have the right to skip over his posts as irrelevant.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. I think anyone looking at his siggy can tell he's a troll.

Amazing peice Doug... not sure if the face suits the character all that much though.

Looks too young and nice - I always pictured her more 'snobbish'.

I'm sorry Doug, I think the model is hotter, I don't like your picture anymore

Edit: BTW, that hair is FANTASTIC O_O

Epic win for what you've done for Becky, Doug.

I've seen her in person once, albeit at a distance, at Video Games Live.

Yep. He's sold more artwork than all of us combined, people collect more of his artwork than all of ours combined, and as someone who's SEEN FIRSTHAND what the publishing industry is like for artists, it's totally ironic that some "art drawer" has chosen his work to pull a Simon Cowell routine on.

Would you like a bigger backhoe for that hole you're digging for yourself, there, DZ? Cos, you know, this ranks right up there with telling Elton John that he can't sing very well.

I was actually imagining something around those lines, Doug. But the fact that the person had somewhat of a uninteresting past and managed to overcome it just make it more cool.

And while I guess we all are happy for the background story of it, the piece is cool regardless.

With the explanation in mind (and the model examined, so to speak, nyoro~n), I don't really have any problems (tiny or otherwise) with the piece. :3

And I've got a new respect for translation from Model to Model (different usage of the word!) in regards to digital art. That's some tricky stuff to manage.

MOST people who enjoy art know absolutely NOTHING about it. And they don't care. They just like it. You don't have to have a PhD in Art History to admire a picture.

I don't know shart about art, but I know what I like. And I like this.

And as we bring this thread back into focus, awesome work, Doug! I don't see anything in it that should or needs to be changed. And reading the story behind the inspiration, makes your piece that much more awesome! I can't wait to see your next project!
