Jenkins's Guide to Super-Villainy
Arc ID: 84008
Faction: Villainous
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Circuit Boy
Difficulty Level: Missions #1-3 1-50, Mission #4 20-29; easy to medium difficulty
Synopsis: Tired of Kalinda prattling on about searching for the "Destined One"? More than just a mercenary gun for hire? Tired of exterminating snakes for Mongoose? Not thrilled to be Doctor Creed's lab assistant? Want to know how to become a real super-villain? Jenkins has just the guide for you!
Estimated Time to Play: 4 missions, 60-90 minutes
[/ QUOTE ]
Running this with Level 50 Katana/Regen Scrapper.
Mission 1: Sharks with laser beams, excellent! The mission was as simple as can be: click 5 glowies then beat a boss. The sharks were a little small for the lasers though. Too bad.
Mission 2: So the shark thing didn't work out too well, but now our contact has discovered the location of the Malleus Mundi. We are off to retrieve it. The mission was an Oranbaga map with a Scooby-Doo theme. I don't see where that fits in at all, particularly the boss who comes after you.
Mission 3: So, our first two missions did not go quite as planned. Pretty humorous so far. This time we are going to try and take control of a huge Council Robot that they are building under the volcano in Striga. The mission was fine, a standard Council base map.
Mission 4: Finally, we get to fight our contact for screwing up every mission so far...and we get to fight the sharks with laser beams. Not sure why we had to exemp down to do it though.
Overall I really liked the idea behind this arc. The whole Scooby-Doo thing was totally unnecessary and the last mission was maybe too quick for the last mission. I had fun playing this for the most part. I don't think it deserves a 5, but this is a very solid 4 star arc. I recommend people give it a try.
I'll submit my arcs for review

Arc Name: The Saga of Uuralur the Mirror
Arc ID: 36492
Alignment: Heroic
Difficulty level: This arc was designed to be fought in a team due to the 3 EBs/AVs and the relatively tough mobs. I'm sure some of the stronger built players could solo it, but even then, a team would certainly be much more fun.
The enemies consists of : Reflections, Circle of Thorns, Banished Pantheon, Carnies, and a few customs.
There are 4 missions, but they all have various objectives and I suggest around 45 minutes to 1 hour on a big team. My Task Force focuses a lot on City of Heroes lore, and especially the Aspects of Rularuu the Ravager.
I''m looking for more reviews and feedback, and if I get enough positive reception, I may be tempted to do another Aspect of Rularuu TF!
Thanks!

Attempting this with a Level 50 Katana/Regen Scrapper
Mission 1: The contact is from the Shadow Shard and wants help hurting the Reflections and Rularuu. His friend and daughter have been kidnapped and we are off to find some clues. The mission is on an Oranbaga map with a custom group. They all use dark armor so it was hard to get a good look at them. The objective was to defeat 3 bosses. The bosses were tough to defeat. The mission is not solo friendly for many classes of heroes. Decent mission though.
Mission 2: We have to fight carnies now. To be honest, by the time I finished the mission, I had a hard time remembering exactly why I went in there. The mission was a bit strange. I was fighting my way along the streets of the outdoor carnie map when all of a sudden a battle spawned between carnies and reflections. There were a bunch of objectives without much reasoning behind them.
Mission 3: The big bad is now targeting magical groups in Paragon City. We are going in to save Adamastor. There was supposed to be a battle between custom Paragon Protectors and Banished Pantheon, but the BP never stood a chance. I saw 2 of them in the entire mission. The end boss was much harder than the EB.
Mission 4:The final mission is to stop Uuralur from bringing back Rularuu. It is a defeat all in a large map. An EB and a couple of bosses are all grouped together. They drop confuse and terrorize and who knows what else. I forfeited.
Overall this arc had a few missions that were fun to get started, but the last one was not very fun at all. The story very simplistic and not very interesting. Mobs were mostly way overpowered. This arc has 52 plays with a 5 star average, so it is probably just me missing something, but I see it as a 3.5. I have to grade down to a 3 because the final room was extremely frustrating. I know you suggested a team, but I think it is clear I am running all of these solo.
3 stars.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can see how you might rate it that low as you did run it on solo. However, this TF was designed to be completed with a team, alike the Shadow Shard TFs, and I've gotten glowing review from my teammates. Thank you for the criticism anyways.

I think it is obvious I have not teamed for any of the arcs I ran, so if you wanted it reviewed from a team perspective only, you came to the wrong place. Like I said the missions were fine, expect for the last part. The story was not that great, team or no team.
The exemping down thing was, unfortunately, required if I wanted to use the Boss Wolf Spider Huntsman model for Jenkins. They're broken up by level ranges of 5 or 10. Same with the Council Mech Men. I think I had the highest-level range for any Wolf Spider Huntsmen for that mission. If I had it be a random Arachnos boss, Jenkins could show up as a Tarantula, or undergo a gender change and show up as a Widow, or something else. If I could change that so it's 1-54, I would, but I can't.
Scoob and the gang are just comic relief. Yes, they're unnecessary. That's the point. They're sort of out of place (though not entirely--Oranbega's full of ghosts). I was going to put an Indiana Jones and a Lara Croft down in there, too, but ran out of room in the file.

Mission 1: OK, so our contact is part of Ravenheart, a villain group. Their leader has been attacked by Rikti and they have lowered themselves to asking for outside help. By the way, the custom contact looks excellent! The mission was pretty good, a standard Rikti mission on an office building that goes to caves.
Mission 2: The Rikti are back on the attack, planting bombs in the Ravenheart's base. Usually I would be down on a defeat all in a larger sized map, but this worked just fine. Some of the Ravenhearts were down there cleaning up with me. Good mission.
Mission 3: Ok, we recovered a piece of a map in mission 1. Somehow they have located the other piece of it in a Rikti base and there might be CoT there as well. In we go...and it is a pretty large map to have to find a glowie in, especially if you miss it at first. Otherwise the mission was fine.
Mission 4: The map is complete and we know the location of the Dread Priestess - although I am not too clear on why the Ritki want her. The mission was set up very nicely for a final mission with the glowie and the appearance of your ally and the EB right nearby.
Overall this was a fun arc to play through. The story got a little muddled at the end with the Priestess. This is a very strong 4 star arc, maybe even 4.5 stars. Good job.

Level 50 Katana/Regen Scrapper
Mission 1: Phantasmal Threat is causing trouble in Cap, so my contact is asking me to go in there and take him out. He was pretty easy to take down. The custom group was pretty generic though.
Mission 2: Hix and NDX suddenly appear with no explanation as to who they are. We are supposed to go and track Terra Lord down in the sewers though, as he knows where NDX is. Why we are doing this is unknown at this point. One of the clues from Terra is blank. Otherwise it is a search and rescue operation.
Mission 3: The story seems to have cleared up a bit, but to me, it is not very interesting. The mission here is to beat iroxor (the author of the arc). He is an EB, but its doable with this toon. The rest of the custom group is again very generic.
Overall there wasn't much to this arc. The story needs work (and I think it is actually a work in progress). The story needs to be more direct, stay with on idea and follow it through. The custom groups need more character to them and better naming. The missions aren't bad though. At this point it is only 2 stars because it is incomplete.

I'd like to offer my arc up for a review when you have a chance (and I'm sure you're now utterly swamped) as I'm looking for feedback (only had 3 plays so far as of yesterday; and two comments - one for a spelling error I had missed, now fixed; and another who said she liked it a lot and found it fun).
Title: Is it Live or is it Memory-X
-------------------------------------
Story Arc ID: 70210
Authors Global Chat Handle: @Armsman
Length: Very Long (5 missions)
Alignment: Heroic
Story Description: The 5th Column is building a device to control the world. Can you save the world from TOTAL DOMINATION?! (Hey it worked to get my Villians and Vigilantes pen and paper RPG group interested back in the day.)
Designer Notes: The Arc can actually be soloed by most Scrapper, Tank and MasterMind builds. In testing, my Gravity/Force Field Controller made it through mission 3 solo with no issues, but starting getting defeats in mission 4; so if youre a support class or a blaster, you probably need a team-mate. This arc is actually based on an adventure I ran players through in the Villians & Vigilantes pen and paper RPG a number of years back. I was surprised at how much of the original flavor I was able to keep in adapting it to fit in the CoX universe. There was only really one element I couldnt include due to MA limitations.

Running this with a Level 50 Katana/Regen Scrapper.
Mission 1: Citadel tells us this is a 5th column mission and it is a 15 minute timed one, but that is fine since it is a bank map. Fairly straight-forward kill-all mission on a tiny map. We obtained a flash drive and Citadel will decode it.
Mission 2: We find out from Citadel what big plans the 5th have: creating some type of AI. Mission 2 sends us to a Crey lab to destroy some parts and get a decryption device so we can read everything on the flash drive from mission 1. The mission has 2 objectives: destroy an item and click an item. there is also a battle between Crey and the 5th. At level 50, Crey wins in a landslide. This mission wins the award for Most False Glowies used in a mission. I must have clicked on 30 computers that didn't have the information I needed. And of course, when I get to the end of the map (large Crey Tech) it turns out I missed one, so I have to retrace my steps all the way back. Perhaps I am nitpicking, but way too many fake computers.
Mission 3: We found out the 5th have completed the AI but have lost it apparently. We are sent to an old warehouse to find some clues. The mission was a little rough...it is a defeat all for no apparent reason. The clue says Citadel is held in this warehouse, but he doesn't spawn until you collect all 4 glowies. Luckily, he was easy to find after he spawned. He said he doesn't know me...could this be a Citadel clone?? He needs to be led out, not sure why he can't make it on his own. I don't know if all the patrols spawned after Citadel spawned or if I missed them going through the mission, but patrols on a defeat all are harsh, and beyond harsh if they spawn after you have already gone through the map.
We see your custom group in this mission and they look incredibly great!
Mission 4: Story is starting to get very convoluted. Citadel doesn't remember sending me on the other missions, but he knows enough about what is happening to know about this AI and that the 5th are going to replicate heroes and world leaders. He sends us off to find info on the custom group. I have mixed feelings on this mission. On one hand, the custom group is so great and very fun to fight. On the other hand, you have to rescue 2 hostages, Statesman and the POTUS and they need to be led back to the door (but the mission objectives don't actually tell you this). Also, after you rescue them a new objective spawns. The story is losing its strength at this point too.
On an amusing note, Statesman and The POTUS fight each after you lead them back to the door. Statesman also takes some shots at me too.
Mission 5: We are being sent to the moon to disassemble The AI. The whole story just started getting a little too far-fetched for me around the end of mission 3. In the mission you have to destroy parts of the AI and rescue hostages.
Overall this one started out strong, but started to fizzle with the not so friendly mission objectives and mission design as well as the story fizzling out. It wasn't bad by any means and I am torn between a 3 and a 4...I ended up giving it a 3 because I just didn't find enough of the missions to be fun. 5 stars on the custom group though. Their look and their abilities were perfect.

Thanks very much for the review. I just thought I would mention that I have made some changes/updates based on two reviews (including this one); and a few other comments I received from player kind enough to send them:
Mission 1:
-----------
Redid a portion of the Contact's (Citadel's) text so that it is in line with the CoH in-game lore for the Citadel; (specifically the '5th Column' version of the old Bastion/Citadel Task Force before that Task Force was retconned and changed to use 'The Council').
Mission 2:
-----------
Cut down on the 'sea' (a term used by more than one commentor and reviewer) of false glowie 'Computer Terminals'; making it (I hope) easier to find the one you need to complete the mission requirements.
Mission 3:
-----------
COMPLETELY REMOVED the 'Defeat All' mission requirement from this mission.
Mission 4:
-----------
Changed the text for the Navigation Bar mission objectives display to more clearly state what the mission objectives are in the mission; and also changed the success description text in the mission to more clearly state was was done by the player; and redid the text on the resulting Clues the mission gives at the end.
I'm also considering making changes to the custom group I created (althogh the comments to date are 80% positive to 20% negative about the 'level of challenge' they give those running my arc); but I'm going to wait until after the build currently on the Training Room server goes live before maiking a final decision on this.
So thanks again, Beach_Lifeguard; your review was very helpful (and balanced/fair); and I'm still looking for feedback from those willing to give it (15 people have rated it so far and it remains at four stars overall ).

Running this with a Level 17 BS/WP Scrapper.
Mission 1: Our contact provides vaccines to the youth in Grandville, but he is short on money. He knows an unethical businessman who he wants me to beat up to procure some additional funding. The mission was a very straightforward one, grab a glowie (the cash) and defeat the boss. The custom group was fine, they fit the theme of the arc, but were nothing special.
Mission 2: Our contact's vaccines have been hijacked and are aboard a cargo ship. We need to go in, retrieve the 3 cases and defeat this villain group's boss. Obviously we are on a cargo ship, with a new custom group. These guys look really good and hit really hard, at least against a Level 17 Scrapper. I was able to manage with only 2 deaths. The custom boss looked good, just wish he actually said something. The contact turns on you at the end.
Overall, if you are looking for a solid, short arc to run through, this is one you can knock out pretty quickly. I have no real issues with it, a good arc that gets 4 stars (but not great to get 5). Some people may be turned off by the ending.
I'd appreciate a review of my arc, it's heroic aligned and I recommend mid-levels just to have a decent selection of powers available, but it should be completable lower level with a good character.
Arc ID is 141338
Its name is Vectors of Infection, and it tells the story of a plague that turns those who are infected into zombies and spreads rapidly through unknown means.
I know it's soloable because I've done it with a couple of my characters (None with exceptional setups) but it does have a couple AVs - you get allies that provide aid against them. It has 5 missions but only takes about an hour to complete, without heavy ghosting. With it you can go even faster.

I just published my own new arc this evening.
It is #113886.
I would appreciate anyone who wants to play and send me some feedback. On mission three, I tried something a bit risky I think. You just have to play through it and there is a legit reason for it. This is very story driven, should be easy to solo with most builds. Just 1 boss at the end.

Ran this with a pair of 39 Bot/* MMs on the base difficulty, so I didn't get any real idea of the challenge. It didn't look like there were any big difficulty spikes, though, which is nice.
I've enjoyed looking through this thread at your reviews. I don't have any arc to review (yet!) but I felt like checking out yours, since you're doing a great job reviewing others.
I'm afraid I rushed a bit on your arc because a thunderstorm popped up during the first mission, so I may have missed some details. I sent you in-game feedback, too, but I can be a little more descriptive here.
Mission 1: I liked the intriguing intro text, with the Freaks asking for me by name but nobody really knows why. I was thinking the Freaks holding hostages should say something when they see me, to give the mission a little more life. Do Freaks care about inf? I thought they were mostly interested in hard cash, as opposed to the reputation-based system of inf. Also, I feel that my character is worth far more than that. It's insulting! If you want players to be possibly insulted (or complimented if they're low-level), you could leave the cash value in, otherwise you may want to not name an actual value.
Mission 2: Nice, fun group. Is there a reason behind their masks and the number 7? I'd be interested in finding out, will keep an eye out for it.
Mission 3: Interesting, but mostly frustrating. Freaks normally aren't suicidal, either. Maybe you could change it to having a custom, non-freak boss at the end who springs the trap once you defeat him?
Mission 4: Why are Arachnos in steel airing the tape? Went around and mopped up the objectives, it went well.
Mission 5: I feel bad for the bad guy. I never did figure out why his group is called the M-7. Ghosted to the end to clear him out, it's nice to have that option. There was a typo after you finish him off, though I can't recall what the word was.
All in all, your arc told a good story and was fun to play. My feedback may be somewhat critical, but I really did enjoy it. 4 stars, and I could see it being 5 if you polished up the objectives, went over the grammar, and did something else with mission 3. Probably even just addressing two out of three of those concerns would be enough for my tastes.
Thanks for the review Mortimer. I completely redid that arc and have spent the past week working on it, hence the break in reviewing other arcs.
So, please feel free to give my new one a try, #161797 in my signature.

Running this with Lvl 50 Katana/Regen Scrapper
Mission 1: Our contact is 'Angry Nemesis' and he is lowering himself to ask for help with one of his plans gone wrong. This is out of character for him, but we'll go with it since this is supposed to me a humorous arc. The mission si fairly straight forward against Crey and a custom Boss. the boss was annoyingly overpowered on defense.
Mission 2: A search and rescue in an Arachnos base, against the Arachnos. The plot only advanced a little bit here. We find out the list of names are the forum names of game developers and we know where they are located.
Mission 3: We are off to their warehouse to defeat the group named 'The Devs' but all we find are their hobo robots, or hobobots, if you will. The clues are supposed to be humorous, but it just doesn't do it for me. Humor is so subjective, I know, but I didn't find any of it very funny.
Mission 4: We are off to Dimension Z, a casino - the dialog from the contact here was pretty funny though, so at least I got some of the humor in this arc. The EB was way overpowered and his minions had end drain so I was helpless even after a few tries. There are not many EB's that prove impossible for this particular toon either...
Overall this was an average arc. The humor missed me, but that may be personal taste. A few of the custom critters were way overpowered (I don't mind a little overpowered, but this was excessive.) The custom group looked good, but they were really nothing special and we didn't get to see all that much of them. The missions themsevles weren't too bad, though the cargo ship turns a lot of people off I am sure.
I score this one a 3 star.

Odd, I've run through this myself several times just to check little edits I've made here and there and the end EB hasn't been all that tough for me. Much less so than most the EBs in the standard game missions. That and the mention of the minions draining makes me think you must have been on invincible. The most minions I've ever seen in there on Rugged is perhaps 9. And only 3 of them with him. And of those 3 there is only 1 type that has electrical blasts.
I didn't expect the humor to hit with everybody but the rest of it concerns me. I'll have to run through yet again and see if something is screwed up.
Edit: Checked it out and again, only 2 minions spawned with him and neither were electric. I'm guessing you missed the fact that the EB is an electric brute. He did wipe the floor with me this time though, 3 times in a row, so something must have been changed in one of the patches since I last tested him. I've lowered his difficulty levels in both offense and defense but I don't want to make him too weak. He is an EB after all. Initial boss has also been lowered so that he no longer has unstoppable.
Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

I have rated 16 arcs as 5*
I have rated 15 arcs as 4*

But, in the last 26 reviews, I have only given out six 5* ratings, but four 2* ratings. I don't know if that means I am getting tougher on the reviews (maybe when deciding between 4 and 5 star) or the arcs are not as high quality as when the MA first was released (everyone had that one great idea, but now the ideas are lower quality?) or maybe it means nothing but randomness.

To find out the answer to this try rerunning one of the arcs you gave 5 stars to. I've replayed the arcs I gave 5 to and still considered them 5 star material. If you don't consider those ones you 5 starred to be that good any more then I would say it was that you were doing like many of the raters are and giving 5 stars to missions that were simply written better than most of the dreck out there.

85813 When Donut Stealing Robots Attack by @iceracer
Right now I'm working my way through 1152 - the Doctor Returns and its proving to be a really well put together and fun story arc.
Be happy!
Thanks for the suggestions Joe. Are any of those your arcs that you want me to review though?
Okay, I'm ready (but nervous) for mine to be reviewed, lol.
"A Spider on the Column." Lord Recluse wants you to do something for him. It turns out to be an not so easy task.

Since you've already reviewed one of my Arcs and have another of my Arcs in your queue, I decided to run one of your Arcs tonight, Beach_Lifeguard!
Arc Name: PUG Hell
Character Used: Leve 48 Dual Blades / Willpower Scrapper
Mission 1:
The Story Arc contact is Back Alley Brawler, and from the mission introduction I can already tell that this is a "joke" Arc. Apparently, someone named "X-Porter" has been kidnapped while on a beer run, and my first task is to save all of X-Porter's alts. Obviously, this storyline isn't meant to be taken seriously, which is actually a nice change of pace from some of the other AE Story Arcs I've run.
I enter the mission, and am met with the "PUG Terrorists" whom are the main antagonists of this Arc. Based on stereotypical "bad" characters many players may meet when joining a pick up group, the "PUG Terrorists" are a unique custom enemy group, to say the least. The dialog between the PUG Terrorists and the hostages, however, could use some tweaking. Most of the dialog seemed like inside jokes that only those who know X-Porter in-game would "get", while the rest were stock phrases often spoken during "bad" pick up groups. I rescue the hostages, defeat the boss, and complete the misson.
Mission 2:
So, Back Alley Brawler has gotten a lead that one of the terrorists in an abandoned warehouse may have information about X-Porter's whereabouts. I go in, defeat everyone in the warehouse (including the boss), mission complete. Not much to say about this mission.
Mission 3:
So, the boss in the last mission gave up the location of the leader of the PUG Terrorists, but not his name. Walking into this mission, I make my way to the end, and find that "Big Bad" behind the kidnapping was... some guy named "Living Monument". According to his info, no one can stand teaming with Living Monument because of his horrible use of bad puns. I defeat Living Monument, and complete the mission as well as the Arc.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, this was a quick, fun Arc that doesn't take itself seriously at all. While there were some chuckle-worthy lines, the comedy seemed to be seriously lacking for an Arc like this. However, it's nice to see the concept of "bad PUGs" played around with, and this Arc did a pretty good job of doing that.
Final Score: 4 Stars

Thanks Mirror!!! That was nice of you to do. I know this has some insides jokes and originally it was meant for only X-Porter to play, but once I finished the custom group I liked them so much I thought it might be fun for others to play.
Now that X-Porter has played it, I really should update with some better humor and take out the inside jokes, maybe clean the story up a bit. Living Monument is X-Porter's main toon.....but I digress.
Thanks again!

3 stars.
