CoX lite for netbooks and iphones/touch

Love to play CoX.

One of the problems I have is that my notebook is rather weak so I really can't play while traveling. Besides getting a powerful notebook, it would be awesome if I could play it on a cheap netbook or even an iphone.

Introducing, CoX-lite. A graphically watered down version of CoX that can run on netbooks or iphones (or similar devices).

Imagine, getting in a few missions in during lunch at work or on break at school!

I don't think it would be worth the development..... no offense. Have you tried putting down your settings to the min?

Yeah, tried that, still unplayable. My notebook isn't all that poor.

I think there could be a market for 'Lite' versions of games that can be on new smaller platforms (netbooks and such).

For a game that relies upon graphics and information - a 2 inch wide iphone screen would not be my first choice to play, even in desperation.

If your notebook isn't playing it, and you've dramatically lowered the settings, AND you've tried installing new drivers for your video card? .... New computer time. The graphics aren't going to be getting any *lower* in quality, unless you want to see 8-bit City of Heroes... o.o If you haven't tried updating your drivers, you might want to do that and attempt again.

I wouldn't mind seeing an 8-bit City of Heroes.

Someone actually did that a couple years ago. Starred Ascendant, if I remember right.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

I should ask him about it. One of my heroes is allegedly in the same SG as he is... >.>

City of Retro, the Text Adventure!

You are in Atlas Park. In front of you, you see steps leading up to a pavillion. On that pavillion is Ms. Liberty. Behind her is a giant statue, and City Hall.

>I

You have:
Spandex

>Look

Look where?

>Look at Spandex

They're very tight, and very bright.

You are attacked! Hellion hits you from behind with a baseball bat for 5 damage.

>Hit Hellion

With what?

>With spandex

You're wearing the spandex. You want to strip down and hit him with your clothes? I don't think the authorities would appreciate that.

Hellion hits you with a baseball bat for 5 damage!

>Hit Hellion

With what?

>With fist

SMACK! The Hellion reels back.

Hellion takes 14 points of damage.

>Kick Hellion

WHAM! The hellion falls down.

You have defeated Hellion.

>Search

You search the Hellion.

You find:
Baseball bat
Dirty hat
5 INF

>Take all

As you rummage through the belongings, a woman comes up and yells "What are you doing? He's robbing that man! Help! Police! Hero!"

This is probably not a good first impression of you for the city.

The more recent netbooks might be powerful enough. I helped a friend of mine get WoW to run on a Lenovo netbook, and it ran fairly decently without significant tweaking (because that's what his son plays: I wasn't specificially shilling for the competition).

I'll try the drivers again. It is a sony vaio with the ati mobility IGP 340M/345M P4 2.8 1M ram

It really chugged before.

8-bit would be awesome. So what if the game looks mediocre, heck it can be cartoonish which would be cool.

That was a case of mistaken identity being used to comedic effect, much as they often were in the early text adventures to which Bill refers.

My question is how a Hellion had Influence in the first place, and how someone was able to loot it from a corpse.

I tried running CoH on my Asus 1000HA and it actually didn't run too bad. Teaming was a problem but soloing was doable if a bit choppy. My biggest problem was that the low resolution meant that my power tray and nav/chat/target windows etc. took up an enormous amount of room on the screen.

I run CoX regularly on my HP Pavillion dV6700.

Only problem I ever have is that vista blows.

You got to keep in mind WoW's recommended (not minimum) system requirements is to have a GeForce 4600. City of Heroes recommends a GeForce 6200.

WoW is one of the most light games out there as far as requirements go, its a very low bar to benchmark against.

[/ QUOTE ]Yes, we do actually realize that. But, since it would be impossible to top Bill's cleverness there, we, just like you, could only grab a single bit and run with it.

On an unrelated topic, would you happen to have tonights winning lottery numbers on hand?

I confirmed that this is possible, and AWESOME. Reduce the size of the UI and you've got work place CoH.

Safe mode gets you about 20 fps, but hey.
