Copying Over Your Open Beta Missions For Release On The Live Servers!

If an Open Beta player wants to copy their Mission Architect missions from the Training Room to the Live server at the Launch of Issue 14, here are the folders that they will need to copy.

<h2>[u]On a PC[u]</h2>

Folders:
<ul>[*]Custom_Critter [*]CustomVillainGroup [*]Missions
NOTE:

Optionally, if they have created a custom costume for a critter that they wish to use in the future and the costume was saved, they will want to copy over the following folder:
<ul>[*]costumes
However if they have saved costumes on live, they will want to just copy the contents to the costume folder into their existing costume folder.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please be aware that if a player copies over a Mission Architect Mission that contains unlocked Maps, villain groups or costume pieces, then they will need to unlock those locked pieces by earning the appropriate Mission Architect Ticket rewards to unlock them or remove any "errors" before re-publishing those Missions on the Live Servers.

[u]Instructions: [u]
Players will need to copy the following folders from C:\Program Files\CohTest\ to C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\

From:
C:\Program Files\CohTest\Custom_Critter
C:\Program Files\CohTest\CustomVillainGroup
C:\Program Files\CohTest\Missions
C:\Program Files\CohTest\costumes

To:
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\Custom_Critter
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CustomVillainGroup
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\Missions
C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\costumes

<h2>[u]On a Macintosh: [u]</h2>
The file structure of the Mission Architect is very similar to the PC, however Macintosh users will need to go the City of Heroes Test installation within their Applications folder to find the files.

  1. Within the Applications folder, the user should right-click the "City of Heroes" (Training Room version) application icon and a menu should appear,
  2. The user should select "Show Package Contents' on the menu so that a new window with the contents of the "City of Heroes" application appears.
  3. The user should expand the "Resources" folder
  4. The user should expand the "transgaming" folder
  5. The user should expand the "c_drive" folder
  6. The user should expand the "coh" folder
  7. Within the "coh" folder, the user will find the following folders
    1. Custom_Critter
    2. CustomVillainGroup
    3. Missions
    4. costumes
  8. The user should copy the folders and their contents and place the copies on their Desktop.
  9. Next, the user should go to Applications folder and find their "City of Heroes" (Live / Retail version) application icon.
  10. The user should select the "City of Heroes" (Live / Retail version) and right-click it so that a menu appears.
  11. The user should select "Show Package Contents' on the menu so that a new window with the contents of the "City of Heroes" application appears.
  12. The user should expand the "Resources" folder
  13. The user should expand the "transgaming" folder
  14. The user should expand the "c_drive" folder
  15. The user should expand the "coh" folder
  16. The user should then copy the following folders to the "coh" directory:
    1. Custom_Critter
    2. CustomVillainGroup
    3. Missions
    4. costumes

TIP: If the user has admin rights within the Mac OS, they should verify that the folders have Read/Write access enabled on all the folders and files contained inside them for all users.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please Note that if a player copies over a Mission Architect Mission that contains unlocked Maps, villain groups or costume pieces, then they will need to unlock those locked pieces within the Mission Architect Mission or remove any "errors" before re-publishing those Missions on the Live Servers.

Can you go visa versa? (or how ever its spelled)

Like transfer from live to test?

Sure.

But if you have arcs currently on live...I'm gonna have to cry "Hax"

My arcs are constantly shifting, just search for GadgetDon for the latest.

Great idea! Kudos to those that set this up. Good content available from the get go on live, and more incentive to test, test, test!

Smart!

Rend this space....

I was hoping for this too. Even though the testing would benefit everyone, I'd hate to spend the time creating a really good arc and not have the ability to transfer it.

Oh goodie! I already had an Arc planned but was not gonna make it on Test because I wasn't sure you could transfer. Now that I know I can take the one I am working on and transfer it to Live.

And here I was just wondering about this a couple hours ago. Thanks!

I guess those that were created in Closed Beta are just gone, huh?

Brutally Beautiful: lvl 50 BA/Inv Brute

...no, closed beta is the same as open beta except fewer people are allowed to log into characters. Same server(s), same content, same patches. Just some people can log in, and some people can't.

Thank god copy and paste will work! I was thinking that it would work before but I was not 100%. Thanks for the confirmation.

The missions are still there. Just sort by date and you will be able see them still.

Sigh. I wonder if I will actually be able to figure out how to copy files.

Enjoy your day please.

Hmm... I seem to be having a weird issue with a character I transferred and the mission doesn't work because of it.

MA claims that the character has html tags in his description when there are none.. Anyone else encounter this?

Thargor do you have unlockable content in your mission? If so you will have to wait until you have unlocked that content on live.

To avoid this issue you can republish without the unlockable content in your mission and it should validate.

Libris, to expound upon this issue I've noticed that my arc increased in size when I transferred it from test to live. Previously it was at 98.5% and when I try to play it on live it shoots up to 105%. I did have two unlockable items in the arc, which I removed for now, but the size is the same either way. I had to remove a custom character to get the size down, but I'd really like to have them back. I'm a little confused as to why my arc increased in size in the transfer.

What's even stranger to me is that I can load up the test server right now, load up the exact same mission file and it's within the size limit. Transfer that same file over to live and then it ballons.

I have a pair of "Destroy" Missions from Test that are ready for play...

"Tainted Waters", a Mission where you have to fight the Contaminated in the sewers. Here's the trick: All Contaminated are level 1, so you also go back to level 1 powers! Like Outbreak, but with a different environment. Pack Inspires; The map is fairly large, and you have to kill all of them. You get a nice memento (whatever its spelled)..

- and -

"Snake In the Grass"
Those nasty hissers from Mercy Island have made it to Paragon, and are poised to spread nation-wide, unless you can clean out their current Mother Nest. Abandoned Warehouse, plus a flex level of 1 thru 52, and I have the feeling that bad words might be said soon. Bring lots of healing; The test-run I did was almost too much for my regenerating Scrapper to handle....

enjoy and please rate.... my Missions I mean...

Apollinaris,

When did you last play your mission on test?

The limitations for size were adjusted during beta, so you may be bumping against those parameters.

Let's see, the last time I actually played the arc was on 4/1/09. However I can go ahead onto the test server right now and open up my arc and it will show me a file size of 98.13%. I assume I could launch and play the arc, put I haven't actually tried it yet.

Addendum: I went on onto test server just now (6:03 Eastern Time today), logged onto the training room server, and launched and successfully played two copies of my mission, the version Published on the test server (Arc# 12193) and played the local copy of this same arc I have on my hard drive in test most. Both arcs played without difficulty on the test server. The local file on the hard drive is the identical file that was copied over to my live CoH folder to transfer the mission to the live servers.

Is it possible that if there was a reduction to the arc size it maybe missed the test servers and made it onto the live servers? Or could I be doing something wrong, making something duplicate somehow? Is this an actual bug? Is there anything else I can do to help?

Hey Ex, thanks for the quick response.

The mission I referred to had no unlockable content. I figured out the problem which I might as well state here.

The problem was a custom character that worked on Test, but for some reason didn't work on Live. MA claimed it was due to his description having HTML tags in it when it didn't.

First I attempted to retype it from scratch after re-saving him with no description. Didn't work.

Then I got rid of the spaces inbetween paragraphs (3). Didn't work.

Then I edited down the description so it was one small paragraph and it finally saved.

When it didn't work the game still claimed that there was html code in his description when there wasn't any. But that was not the only problem.

When I hit "save and test" it told me that there was a problem with the rescue dialogue from one of my npc's, that it was too long. This wasn't an issue in Test. Unfortunately there was no error message popping up to direct me to the line so I had to search through all of the dialogue in the mission.

I discovered that one line that had 105/100 characters. I fixed that and then the mission was fixed.

Hopefully this can help out some others that might have had this problem when transferring.

Good writing everyone!
